i had a very unpleasant experience in Alpha Angle Wangsa Maju this afternoon.. i was using my laptop and when my battery almost gone flat, i saw a few power plugs underneath thr bench and of course i plug in my power adapter to charge.. who knows couple of minutes later, a security guard came over and prohibited me from using the power..
guard: sir you are not allowed to use the power, please keep your laptop..
me: [a million puzzle] huh?? why can't i use??
guard: this is shopping mall, you're just not allowed..
me: but why?? can you give me a valid reason??
guard: this is instruction from the management, the electricity belongs to Alpha Angle..
me: i'm a customer of Alpha Angle, why can't i use the power plug here?? can i talk to your manager??
guard: [starting to get agitated] i just follow instructions, if you want to complain this is my name [showing me his ID]..

i was totally pissed off and immediately called up the customer care, and they said there is of course no problem for me to use the power.. i asked for a resolution and they helped me to get the manager to come and see me.. the guard (somemore a supervisor!!) knew the manager is going to allow me to use, and very rudely and irresponsibly he walked away.. i then complained to the manager, she explained that for the safety of customers they don't normally allowed that but under certain situations they allow.. what was she trying to say?? implying that the customers need to complain them before they can use the power?? safety of customers?? then put a notice or seal the power plugs!! this is so ridiculous.. i was really frustrated, please can i have some justice, anyone??

  15. We are customer and they should meet our satisfaction and expectations so how can you be satisfied if they are prohibiting you to use just a little amount of power to keep your lappie on the go right? tsk tsk tsk

    ReplyDelete
  16. Why? is laptop explosive? what is that safety precaution that she is referring to? hahaha

  17. Have a great day SK! and happy blogging...
oh by the way ... bout my phone hahaha i ended up buying a new one sobs...

  18. Normally not allowed - "for the safety of the customers." Ok lah....reasonable explanation and since your case looks like an urgent one (cannot wait till you get home to charge and did not charge before leaving home...Tsk! Tsk!), they allowed it - very reasonable too...and considerate.

Everyone has the right to lay down their own policies and rules...and people will need to respect and follow. That's why countries have laws and not allow everybody to do what they want.

  19. Is there any policy written on the walls or something? How come they are so not clear about this, 'but under certain situations they allow', what is the so called certain situations?? hmmm...

  20. Security got nothing to do yo, wanted to show the power of the security in this shopping mall lol . . .

I am so sorry to read this and I got no idea I am allow to use the electricity in other shopping mall or not . . . but I am sure that most of the plug over there is either for the cleaner or customer use . . I would think . . . "WHY NOT?"

    ReplyDelete
  21. Never heard of "plug-not-allowed-to-use" term in the shopping mall I went. And the manager's reason is not constructive, just another lame excuse.

    ReplyDelete
  22. That's horrible! Such rude guards... glad that you got confirmation and justice from the manager or else the guard will think that he rules the place!

    ReplyDelete
  23. This is really a bad encounter. It shouldn't blame the guard, but blame the stupid management. So double standard one.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Sometimes the guards acts like the owner of the shopping complex.

Similar thing happen to my fren who went to Giant Kemaman branch on a normal day. She brouhg her own recycleable bag and the guard wont let her in. Say only Saturday can use the recycle bag. Other days must use their plastic. STupid or not. Some more the supervisor can claim that her is the 2nd boss there.

Kena my fren complaint to the HQ he baru mati mati allow her to use own recycle bag on normal day

  25. Interesting! Is that the foodcourt you were referring to? I've been there and have seen people using their laptop though did not notice whether it's plugged in. May want to do your work in the McD outlet instead. Lots of students work in there though it can be rather noisy during peak hours. Come to think of it, not quite sure whether there is any plug-point in there.

Never mind about it, SK. Chalk it up as an experience. But am glad you stood your ground, got it sorted out and got to use it in the end. Bravo!

  26. I dont know much or even heard about that place but Sunway Pyramid is THE best!

  29. Once I went to eat in a restaurant and my table had 8 persons. I charged my handphone onto the wall's plug point beside me and the waiter rudely told me to take it off. Of course I was mad cos my phone was almost dead. I never went back to that shop again la.

  30. Next time go to Starbucks and charge your lappie. TZ will be there or at least use his name for free drinks! LOL

  31. Actually i am ex employee in this company. As far as i know, there is no such rules in jusco. You did the right thing by calling customer care. No matter what, store manager or line manager they have to solve this complaint/ handle your complaint in a right way.

If they can't handle well, the HQ and japanese higher-up will scold them and give them warning letter. Anything just call customer care if they are rude to you or you not satisfy with their service. Aeon is a retail service that put first priority in customer services.

    ReplyDelete
  32. FYI,My manager and assistant manager all afraid of customer care complaint one.

Shh...Don't tell anyone about it or spread this info. Just keep in your mind as for your future reference :P.

    ReplyDelete
  34. haha. guards are just like that. they need to show that they have the authority... if u gave in, they feel good...

    ReplyDelete
  35. Not bad for the guard to address you 'Sir' instead of 'eh hello'. He should have said 'excuse me A*Boy' hahaha.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Quite confused with this explanation "they don't normally allowed that but under certain situations they allow"..What circumstances? Only when the power supply is off? They may be right if its for the safety of customers. But those who plugged in are not 3 year old kids or perhaps you looked too young like below age and that could be the reason why you cant use scared you play play out fire later.

    ReplyDelete
  37. * scratch head * very confusing ya. But you are good ! Fight for your own right!

  43. Well, you can't fight these people since they have already laid down the rules.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I hate guards like that! So rude and action! Think he is the boss meh?

    ReplyDelete
  45. Actually why they have this rule that you cant use the plug? What crappy rule is that?

    ReplyDelete
  46. The manager is not talking sense. But well, at least she allows you to use it!

    ReplyDelete
  47. I don't understand how using their plugs will pose a risk to the safety of customers. You mean their power plugs are dangerous? People have died using them before?

    ReplyDelete
  48. Well, if I were you, I won't go back there anymore! Haha!!

    ReplyDelete
  49. hey, that is such a bizzarre experience!! i don't see why the customers are not allowed to use the power in the shopping mall at all!!

    ReplyDelete
  50. the guard was very rude and bad attitude, and the manager was confused with what she was trying to say right?? what did she mean by normally not allowed, but under certain cases allowed?? that's double standard!!

    ReplyDelete
  51. great that you made the complaint and get your justice back.. i think the security guard was slapped harsh on his face yeah?? haha~~ :D

    ReplyDelete
  52. @ lina:
yalor so expensive that they don't even allow me to spend 30sen from them on the bill, haha!! well, i think they are just trying to give excuse as explanation because i don't really think there's any written policy that does not allow customers to use the power.. aiyah, i wanted to go McD but then all occupied already..

    @ Alice Law:
well i do understand the safety precautions make sense but they way they put forward this message is so inappropriate and not convincing enough, furthermore the security guard was so rude.. i have not idea why he was so insisted with the orders but then there's no written policy on that.. haiz!!!

    ReplyDelete
  53. @ Merryn:
yeah, exactly that was what happened.. so pissed off that i immediately made a complaint..

    @ Caroline Ng May Ling:
exactly!! i really felt very puzzled with that so-called explanation which was so not convincing.. or course i left the place after the manager came and see me, and i promise her i will definitely make a complaint when i go back..

    ReplyDelete
  54. @ wenn:
it's not about rights or what-so-ever, it's just the security guard's attitude..

    ReplyDelete
  55. @ Pete:
haha, that's a good idea huh?? but then if we do so, we may be in risk unless we apply for the license to gather there from DBKL, haha~~

    @ Isaac Tan:
well i think so, but least he expected that i will immediately make a complaint and then bring him into trouble, hahaha.. oh, so you are staying nearby here??

    ReplyDelete
  56. @ TZ:
yeah you are right.. from the way the manager was trying to explain, it seems that we can only get it if we complain!!

    @ bluedreamer27:
haha, it's not my area whether to fire him or keep him, just that i think i have the rights to complain his attitude towards customers.. yeah, we should be served with a professional manner and not just follow order from the security guard right?? it just doesn't sounds OK to me at all.. hmmm, that's the safety of customers that the manager was trying to explain, make sense to me frankly but then she just cannot convinced me, because she just seems to cover her excuses..

    ReplyDelete
  57. @ suituapui:
yeah that is what she was trying to explain.. but i guess that's a double standard and only when i complain then i'm allowed to use.. so everyone can just complain that they are urgent and need to use the power right?? that make sense but really not a convincing explanation to me.. but if you have such policy then be very clear and strict but not on the fence, just put on signboards or indeed seal all the power stand, right??

    ReplyDelete
  58. @ Hayley:
well, when the manager came to see me, i actually asked the security guard again whether there's any written policy in his handbook, and he answered no!! and that's how the manage explained to me, normally don't allow but allow under certain situations..

    @ Kian Fai:
i think so, maybe the security guard got nothing better to do and was too bored so he decided to "kacau" me, but least expected that i fought back and give him a good time, haha.. yeah, exactly, if they really prohibit us from using, then they might just put on notice to "educate" the customers, don't you think so??

    ReplyDelete
  59. @ Yvonne:
well that is why i wasn't convinced about their so called "policy" from the management!! i made a call to the customer service center and straight away they say there is no problem at all for me to use them..

    @ iamthewitch:
hmmm, that was exactly what he was thinking i guess.. he's the "powerful" security guard and he thought everyone will be inferior of him.. least expected that i will fight back and give him a good time yeah?? haha..

    ReplyDelete
  60. @ Sheoh Yan:
well, the guard shouldn't be blamed for the managing style but for his rude attitude for sure.. and i actually talked to the manager that they are not doing their job, double standard and not managing the security well.. mind you, that security guard is the supervisor somemore!!

    @ Small Kucing:
i think he thinks everyone will be inferior to him, but he never expect that i will immediately fight back based on his perception on Malaysian consumers.. hey, that Giant security guard is just very stupid!!! we are encourage to use recycle bags but he says only saturdays allowed?? haha, that's the craziest joke i've heard in my lifetime!! for this case, you friend call the manager to talk and give the guard a good time?? :D

    ReplyDelete
  61. @ HappySurfer:
err, not the food court, i tried the plug at food court and all are not working.. i tried McD but then all are occupied that was why i used those at the lobby court.. i was very pissed off with that unreasonable attitude and can't stand to make a complaint.. in the end, i didn't use the power and left and i told myself not going back to that shopping mall again if not necessary..

    @ Daniel Chiam:
it's just a neighbourhood shopping mall in Wangsa Maju, and i guess that's why everything is done so "family" style and so unprofessional..

    ReplyDelete
  62. @ Twilight:
well, Thambee wasn't bullied at all.. instead Thambee immediately made a complaint to seek justice and finally able to give a slap on the security guard's face.. haha, so Arumugam scolded and bullied by the waiter and never fought back?? that is so not right, you should ask the waiter to call for the boss and then complain!! i am sure the boss will allow you to charge as much as you like.. Thambee cannot afford to go Starbucks, but if TZ or Arumugam wanna buy Thambee a drink then ok lah~~ :D

    @ Monk:
oh that is interesting to know you have been working with that company.. haha, now i know why after i called to make a complaint everything was allowed.. BTW, i still have no time to write the complaint email to the HQ, but no worries i've noted down the security guard's name and his ID.. will do that in these few days and see how they would respond to me.. haha, hopefully it's the Manager who handles my case then~~ :p

errr, i remember he didn't even address anything but for the sake of the content of the post i just put "sir" there lah, hahaha.. yeah, you are confused with the manager's explanation right?? normally don't allow but under certain circumstances they allow.. so i told her this is really a double standard, meaning if anyone just need to use the power, they will just make a complaint and everything will be settled right?? that's so not convincing.. i guess so, maybe i was wearing short pants and they thought they can bully me, never did the guard expect i will fight back immediately..

    @ mNhL:
of course, if the guard gave me a good reason and was polite, i will be happy to follow his instruction.. but the fact is, he was damn rude and i decided to retaliate!!

    @ reanaclaire:
the shops and cafe and restaurant sure will allow, but i was using those at the shopping mall main lobby court, guess that's a grey area whether we are allowed to use or not right??

    ReplyDelete
  66. @ kyh:
errr, she couldn't answer me properly about what kind of circumstances too.. she just said urgent case like mine, haha.. meaning if everyone complains about being urgent, then everyone can use..

    @ Dora:
errr, i don't care but i think with that guards's attitude, i will stand firmly on my ground.. we ought to fight back although we know there's not really going to work right??

    ReplyDelete

    @ Mei Teng:
errr, they don't have clearly written rules.. and what's confusing was the explanation given by the manager, normally don't allow but under certain cases they allow..

    ReplyDelete
  68. @ foongpc:
yeah, that guard must be thinking that he has all the power and authority and trying to be rude.. try to bully me who is wearing short pants and a dirty pair of sneakers?? nope, i'll stand firm and make sure i complaint to give him his time.. no, they don't have any written policy that doesn't allow.. guard says management order, customer service says no problem, manager says normally cannot but some special case can.. so whom should i listen to?? there are multiple standards in the management don't you think?? errr, of course i told myself i won't be going back if not necessary, for it's just a neighbourhood shopping mall that is so lousily run..

    @ victor:
yes, that was really ridiculous that customers are not allowed to use the power plug.. if they don't allow, just put signs there or seal them up, i'm sure that would make things clear to the customers.. the security guard's attitude was what triggers me to make the complaint, and yes, i guess he has his time then, but maybe better when i lodge the complaint..
