when i go shopping i normally like to take my own sweet time to browse around.. when there's enthusiastic sales assistant coming over to serve, unless i really need help else i will feel quite uncomfortable and choose to reply with a polite smile and then walk away.. and for the case of hardselling sales assistant who follows me everywhere like a magnet, i definitely will want to leave the place..

and i actually realised many of our sales assistant, instead of asking "how may i help you sir??", would just stand beside you in a sudden and then throw you a simple "YES??"!! @_@" i'm like, WTH, what kind of response are they expecting from me?? i didn't ask for assistant but they just came by and throw a "YES??" to me, as if they need my help more than i need theirs.. in today's world, sales assistant is considered a profession, do they mind to be a tad more professional really??

  5. Good promoter and sales assistants on the other hand, are poison to me. I am such a sucker to them. I usually buy anything from those good promoters. I even changed the brand of the TV I wanted to buy because of a nice guy manning the Sharp counter. (The Sony guy ignored me). ^^!

  6. Haha... "how may i help you sir?" is proper English, whereas "YES??" is Manglish, no? I dislike being attend by sales assistant and if I need one, I'll look for one :)

I know those sales assistants get extra commission when they sell their products. Sadly, with their "YES" attitude, they are not going to earn any $ from me.

  10. I guess I will feel more comfortable if they say this way "Sir, please take your time to have a look, if you need my help, please let me know. Thanks." Then, back to where they suppose to be. Don't follow the customer.

  39. me too, i dont like promoter come to disturb me, feel uneasy. I prefer i check myself.

Cause they will interrupt my choice.
Sure, they will say somethings good about their product for sure.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Oh yes, sales assistants who follow me around will be sorry they follow me around! Haha!!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Cos I will ask them to leave me alone. If I decide to buy, I will buy if not, then I will leave. Haha!

    ReplyDelete
  43. There's one time a sales staff followed me around and I was so irritated I snapped "Can you stop following me around? You think I am going to steal?" Really lost it and that staff was shocked. LOL!

    ReplyDelete
  44. And one time, the sales assistant actually told me not to touch and mess up the clothes on the shelf! WTF! She said everything I wanted to see was at the top and I did not need to find those below. Maybe she's right but as a customer, I think I have the right to mess up the clothes. Customer is No.1 right? I immediately left that shop! Even though I really wanted to buy. Stupid sales assistant!

    ReplyDelete
  46. yeah, i don't like promoters keep on following, as if they are supervising us.. i really feel uneasy and this gives a pressure on me, haha!!

    ReplyDelete
  47. the "YES??" is just very classic!! i guess this is their way of saying "how may i help you sir", shortened and understood, haha!! hmmm, but i really don't like that, that is so not polite..

    ReplyDelete
  48. but the worst is actually those who keep on following, and then readjust things that you've touched on the shelf.. this is something i feel very offended..

    ReplyDelete
  49. @ Daniel Chiam:
hahaha, but i think they have to be moderate also lor, if really giving too much compliments then i will think they are too fake already.. i guess politeness and sincerity to help will be the most important.. :)

    @ wenn:
yeah, i really feel very uneasy that there's somebody else following me around when i shop..

    ReplyDelete
  50. @ lina:
yes yes yes!! i agree with you, i think those who promptly adjusted their merchandise are even worse than those who followed you around, that is just so rude!! and those who keep on explaining how good their product is, and how bad their competitors are, these are really not professional.. haha, but i guess you are right, service is the utmost important, and it comes first to me..

    @ Yvonne:
well, even if in mandarin or cantonese or even hokkien or hakka, there is still a proper way to ask "how may i help you sir" correct?? yeah, me too, i hate somebody serving me unless i really need help.. i mean just let your customer take their time, with your service it's kind of putting a pressure on them..

    ReplyDelete
  51. @ Tekkaus:
correct, i will really feel very uneasy if they keep tailing me.. there's one time i really feel irritated that i told the assistant off, of course trying to be polite and friendly lah.. i think they should let customers take their time, and then attend only when they need help..

    @ Sheoh Yan:
oh, that is definitely very professional.. but i don't see any of our sales assistant here saying so but in HK that is very common.. hmmm, when will our sales be as professional as them??

    ReplyDelete

    @ Hayley:
errr, i think that is very common some sales assistant tailing their customers.. to me, i feel very uneasy and it's kind of rude to do that also.. why?? you are afraid that i will steal your things??

    ReplyDelete
  53. @ mNhL:
yeah, i think this is malaysian style but i really do not appreciate that at all.. can't they be more proper since they are in the service industry??

    @ suituapui:
yes!!! those are the ones whom i hated the most!! that is really unprofessional and infact something very rude!! if i ever meet this kind of people, well, i will then make their life worse, i'll just flip each and every shirt and let them do the work if that's what they feel like doing for the rest of their lives.. :p

    ReplyDelete
  54. @ Caroline Ng May Ling:
well, really very poor customer service, no quality at all right?? haiz, that is why sometimes i rather not asked to be served and help myself will do..

    @ Wai Kitt:
yeah, i don't like that too.. most of the time i try to ignore but sometimes if really feel too uneasy i'll just leave..

    ReplyDelete
  55. @ bluedreamer27:
yeah, i think we all prefer to take our own sweet time.. having them serving us is just like some force of pressure making you to make your decision quick, pay and then go away, right?? haha.. that is why, i think they shall only greet us and then attend us whenever needed, that would be something i prefer..

    @ Medie007:
haha, actually there was once when they ask me YES, i replied them YES looking very puzzled at them.. hahaha!! :D

    ReplyDelete
  56. @ Bananazஇ:
hahaha, actually if i wanted to write my experience, there are really a lot to be written.. for example, besides those who tail you, those who immediately rearrange their merchandise after you've touched them - this is the worst service i can say.. so do you have a good channel for our concerns to be addressed?? hahaha..

    @ reanaclaire:
i think they should just greet us and then leave us alone to take our own sweet time doing our shopping, and then only attend to us if we need help right?? i so scared of those who follow me along..

    ReplyDelete
  57. @ Gratitude:
i think it has to be moderate lah.. greet and then let us take some time to browse through, and then only attend to us whenever we need help.. i guess most of the people would prefer this way.. unless those really "high class" people who are used to being served everywhere..

haha, you are right.. they are just like supervising us when they follow us around, as if we are gonna damage their things or steal away their things.. i think this is somehow not very polite.. should let customers have their own privacy too..

    ReplyDelete
  58. @ cindy:

    @ Monk:
haha, but still there are some promoters who will ask and follow, because that is what they are told by their supervisor about "customer service" - just depend on how happy they are going to do so.. i also normally wear shorts and tees to go shopping too, haha!!

    ReplyDelete
  59. @ Alice Law:
hahaha, actually there are a lot of small details that i pay attention to in life.. hmmm, sometimes i'm petrified too by YES, as if they are adding more pressure and i rather choose to retreat, haha!!

    @ Pete:
yeah, unless those who are really interested and they don't mind hearing the stories and comparisons..

    ReplyDelete
  60. @ edward:

    @ Isaac Tan:
hahahaha!!! really you heard "apa mau" when you go shopping?? hmmm, that is so unbelievable!!! or you have those experience in those mamak operated mini markets?? hahahaha~~

    ReplyDelete
  61. @ fufu:
hmmm, but i really don't appreciate that as if they are not being polite at all..

    @ Ashley:

    @ bluecloud:

    ReplyDelete
  64. @ CH Voon:
yes, unless i really need help or else i don't like them keep following me.. there was once i even turn back and ask the promoter don't follow me lor, haha!! but of course in a friendly manner lah.. i really prefer to take my own sweet time, if follow me means giving me pressure..

    @ foongpc:
haha, actually there was once they come and YES?? me, and i replied YES?? with a very puzzled looking face, and i guess she was very shocked too, and then she keep following me.. anyway, i just ignored here lor, at least i just walk around the whole shop, and another two more rounds until she gave up, then only i left the shop, hahahaha!! i actually don't like to be disturbed, if you want to greet your customers, then do it in a proper, polite and professional way, don't you agree?? and if i need help i will ask for it, i don't need you to attend to me when i'm not ready at all.. :) oh, i seen those promoter before, they just immediately tidy up what you've touched, that is really so rude!! and those who ask me to try alternatives, sorry i will even more insisted to try the one i want.. i deserved to be served right?? and if they are going to play tricks, i'll even make their life more miserable..

    ReplyDelete

    @ victor:
oh yeah, i think they should just let us take our own sweet time to browse through things and then see what we actually like right?? i mean we go shopping, and we don't have something specific in mind, that is why we need time to take a look of everything they have right?? hmm, i really agree with you, YES?? is just very impolite, and those who follow and re-adjust things are the worst!!!

  66. SK Thambee, you so garang to the sales people huh! They are just doing their work mah...

    ReplyDelete
  67. I also don't like them to trail me, so I will hide between shelves! Many times they will surrender.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Many times promoters tried to nail me but I quickly whisk out my mobile and pretended to talk. So they also gave up. It works Thambee!

    ReplyDelete
  69. I guess most promoters these days are daily paid students who just stood there counting hours to collect wages. Those old aunties who are promoters are more committed to their product and sales. Kamala makes a good sales woman, rite? That's why Thambee bought her milk and took her home too! Muahahahaha!

    ReplyDelete
  70. @ Twilight:
Arumugam you misunderstood, Thambee never rude to the sales assistant before, instead he always give a smile to them.. of course Thambee knows they are also earning for a living, so there's really no point to treat them like they are your servants.. what i meant is that, they could perhaps be more professional and that would help them excel and achieve more targets, haha.. errr, i normally just leave the place if i found the sales assistant trailing me.. but then again, they should know the trend and demand, and should abandon the old style service right??
