do you remember back in your schooldays, one of the items you wrote about your hobbies must have been "reading"?? i think that was pretty a standard model especially for good students, but if you were to ask whether i was really fond of reading, i don't think i can remember that.. what i can tell here is, other than textbooks and some story books i used to (or rather have to) read in school, i don't think i have really completely read up a book since then..

but people change (especially as you age), i started to find myself liking to hang round in bookstores, especially Kinokuniya in KLCC.. though i won't be spending a whole day in the bookstore like bookaholics, but flipping though books is almost as interesting as myself surfing in supermarkets (which i love to do).. recently am especially interested in the history of Qing dynasty, perhaps have been watching too much of those drama series?? :p

i've recently wanted to get myself some books, the ancient chinese says "you are benefited once you open a book", yes you got knowledge as well as literately refined, but more important is -- you can get tax rebate from books!! haha.. so any good books (of any type) that you would like to recommend??

  20. You might like to give "The five people you meet in Heaven", by Mitch Albom a try :). Storyline is simple, short, unpretentious and thought provoking. It was on the New York Times bestseller list.

    The Abstract:
"This story begins at the end: Eddie, an elderly amusement park maintenance man, dies on his eighty-third birthday in a tragic accident while trying to save a little girl. As he is dying, Eddie feels two hands in his. Eddie then awakens to the afterlife where he meets five people who, in some way, touched his life which he initially believed was uninspiring. These five people explain to Eddie his life on earth."

The story will make the reader reflect on how the decisions & actions that we make & take each day will affect the lives of others, directly or indirectly...

    venus:

    summer:

    chrisiew:

hey, this comes quite familiar to me, i think i've seen this book before.. maybe in the bestseller or highlights section.. yeah, you are right, as a start i think i should go for something simpler to understand.. i really don't want books that are too heavy till i lost interest again.. haha!!

    bluesky:

    ReplyDelete

    Pooi Tyng:
hmmm, don't think i will go to those fair lor, always so packed with people.. anyway, i'm not a bookaholic, so getting a book in bookstore or book fair really is not a difference for me lor :p

    bluesky:

    Chi Leong:

  31. I love to read! When I was small, I used to read a lot! Now with working and blogging, I spend less time reading which is a shame!

I read all kinds of books, fiction and non fiction. I like new age books, and books that talk on self improvement and spirituality.

I also read books on feng shui and health.

I highly recommend the book Conversations With God by Neale Donald Walsch if you are into such stuffs.

I also like local books written by local authors.

  32. Now I have so many books collecting dust on my shelf unread. Bought them during sales! Must find time to read them! : )

    ReplyDelete

    tagnan:
