Some Thoughts On Travelling (Part 2 of 2)
Map of The World

this is the second part of a two-parts post, you may click here to read the first part..

i don't usually tell others much about my trips, except (1) for the sake of blogging, (2) someone gets excited and keep asking questions, (3) all have been to the same place and discussing experience.. because i think (1) it is way better for you to just feel the place yourself rather than just over a chat, (2) people will get bored if they have not been there, (3) i can't make my dull story interesting, haha!! of course, i admit that it is utterly common that we would intentionally or unintentionally talk about our trips.. but if one likes comparing this and that, it actually makes no point to me.. every place has their own different charms, cultures and styles, if one keeps comparing (or even complaining) and setting the levels of superiority between the "many" places they have been, i would rather think they actually have not travelled that much to learn to appreciate the diversity of the places and cultures on earth.. you know, a wise man remains silent, haha!! :p

here are the places that i kind of group under my own "definition", haha!! what about you?? :p

places i have been to few times yet will likely not get tired of going againHong Kong, Japan
places i have been to in recent years and wanted to go again to see moreParis, Kyoto, Beijing

Dei, your FC so short sentence la. Must write panjang panjang and long winded to appease SK Thambee in order to clinch the FC crown. Hee hee

  2. I guess it's ok to tell others about your trips so that to those who never been to those places can read about it and considered whether that place is worthwhile to go. I also read travel blogs before I travel or stay at a certain resort to find out how's the condition of the resort as well as how fun the place is !

  3. Today is Part 2 and there are more details of your opinion from the past travels. SK had conquered 3 continents from his list. I guess I have conquered 4 continents but actually stepped my foot in lesser interesting places compared to Thambee. Hey where is your Shanghai trip? I thought you went to the big lakes nearby too.

Life is short and time flies so fast. Everyone has different bucket lists for their life but my bucket lists contain seeing the exotic places in this world. We learn a lot from other cultures and interesting historical sights. Some people's bucket lists are to eat as much food as possible. As for me, to live meaningfully is my ultimate aim. This word is very deep, I know.

SK's choice of "Places I have been to and don't quite feel like going again" is SINGAPORE AND CAMBODIA!! I am utterly shocked to hear Singapore. Why? Why? When Sharon hears this, she might Zumba jump higher than the Merlion Statue! Wakakaka

There might not be new places of sight seeing in Singapore but my wife and I love going there for the quickest and nearest get away from home. We always had a good time meeting friends and relatives besides eating their special and delicious food which may not be found in Malaysia. Anyway, this is just subjective but I do love the neat and clean environment in Singapore which generates good frequency too.

    1. Yeah, I was to see Singapore in the list .muahahahahaha... Anyway, I think going to Bangkok is better since it is near too and cheaper also. Singapore can be expensive for Malaysians due to the exchange rates now but then, I still see a lot of Malaysians travellers whenever I check out from SG.

Anay and Thambee are well traveled folks! I guess my bucket list is also sight-seeing unlike some folks who likes to dive, shop, beaches and mountaineering as well as running like Mak Glam.

    3. Anay is Twilight Man.

      SK is Thambee.

I think i can guess why Kyoto and Japan is not in the same group.

Japan maybe the place that Thambee SK will probably never get tired of going again as Japan consist not only Kyoto mah. There are others cities like Nagoya, Toyohashi, Narita, Ichinomiya, Kurume...alamak toyota poun ada.....these name gua tarak tau punya. i google punya.

Anyway...my point is ...Thambee SK wanna see kyoto again..but may get tired of going to Kyoto too many times. hence he put Japan as never get tire of visiting coz it's such a vast plave just like China.

    4. Who is the blur one here? Chris or Anay (Thambee)??? Muahaha

  5. Point 2.
For the same, it would be on the contrary. They'd get excited to read about the places they've never been to.

I tend to be on the fence about it. I get excited about places that catches my interest but would be ambivalent about some places....

  6. Yea, unless I go with friends that I've no choice have to do homework then I will go ask people, if not I usually go quietly one, don't want let others know, go quietly and back quietly like that, hahaha! Besides blogging I hardly tell people where I've been to la, because some may take it like you bragging to them so yah!

  7. I wish to visit places too..but on selective countries only la..because some are not safe to travel there..I would want to visit Singapore again on a more relax trip for one it is nearer to Malaysia and two it is safer and clean. The one place we would like to visit is Taiwan, I heard a lot of good comments on Taiwan.

    1. Taiwan is nice for its food, especially street food! And the climate is nice there too as well as sight-seeing!

  8. 1) Places I have been to several times yet would probably never get tired of going again – That would be too many! The only country that I have visited over 100 times is Thailand and you probably know it too. I don't mind going there again as I have not visited many towns like Chiengmai, Pattaya, Sukothai, Kanchanaburi and Hua Hin which has been lingering in my mind for many years. Somehow, I went to other places instead when I had the time as these Thai towns have lesser priorities.

Japan – I never get enough of this place and promised my wife that I would bring her there for our yearly fix. We have booked tickets for next month and next year too. I know I sound crazy for early bird gets the worm for cheaper air tickets and hotel rates. This country is the cleanest in the world with most polite folks who greet everyone well including strangers. I have enough of rude urchins and politicians here, so going there is a nice change. We actually wished that we could migrate there to live but it sounds impossible.

China – This country is too huge and I would never be able to finish seeing all the historical sites, palaces and temples which interests me a lot. I am a Chinese and definitely love to hear this country where my ancestors were. So far, their hotels are still very cheap where you often could get 5 Star hotels in many cities for less than RM300 a night which is a real bargain. This is not applicable for places like Shanghai or Beijing where their 5 star hotels are more expensive.
We had made plans to scale the 4 Buddhist mountains there but have only climbed to the peak of Mount Emei in Sichuan and Munt Jiuhua in Anhui. The next 2 are Mount Wutai and Mount Putuo. It is not easy for me to reach these scared mountains as I had so much hurdle tests to pass.

    1. Seems like our travel bucket list also identical, maybe we should go on a trip someday..,muahahaha... I love these three countries you mentioned and I will go for sight-seeing more. Anyway, don't think I can climb those mounts unless its just a hike up. hahah..

  9. 2) Places I have been to in recent tears and wanted to go again to see more – That would be Taiwan and Japan to be exact. I think I have visited Taiwan over 5 times yet I kept going to same places like Taipei and Taichung which are quite happening. I have visited Keeliung, Kaoshiung and Tainan but quite briefly during my working business trips. I would like to see places like the Hualien and Sun Moon Lake too. I have not even seen the Sun Yat Sen Memorial Hall in Taipei as I was always in a hurry. I might go there next year if fate permits me.

Taiwan is a nice place where the Chinese are more polite compared to the mainlanders. Theur country which was ruled by Japan still have traces of the Nihon culture in terms of the street ambiance, buildings and food. Shopping is cheap and good at all the night markets but it is not easy to bargain with them. I got cursed by an old aunty once for haggling the prices.

Oh Japan! So many places that Thambee has been and Anay belum pergi like Nagoya, Sapporo and Hokkaido. I also wanna go and see the Okinawa Island which is a very unique island with the same tourists who keep going annually. That island must have some magnetic attractions which my Korean buddy has to visit every 2 years until he planned to migrate there from Seoul. Can you believe that???

    ReplyDelete
  10. 3) Places I have been to many years ago and feel like making a revisit - That would be United States and United Kingdom. There are 52 states in USA and I have only stepped foot in 9 states! That means I still have 43 to cover and that would take my entire lifetime. Most Americans do not visit all the states too. They would only visit a few interesting ones only as many states look similar in their downtown areas except for exotic places of visits like Niagara Falls, Grand Canyon, Washington DC and many others. I would want to visit Texas again and ride a rodeo horse that jumps wildly to the songs of “Rhinestone Cowboy”. Yeee Haaawwww!!

I also wish to visit all the lovely and peaceful places in the Upstate that covers New Hampshire, Maine, Conneticut, Long Island and Staten Island. These places are very different in the surroundings unlike Los Angeles and Dallas. You need to be there to understand and I am looking forward to my dreams.

As for United Kingdom, the more I see RealGunner's blog, I realised I have a long way to go. I have not visited Wales, Ireland and Scotland which have interesting castles and historical sites! Again, I doubt I could cover so much in my lifetime. That will have to leave to my fate to decide.

    1. US is like China, definitely too big to visit all! Wah ... thambee love cowboy and the wild wild west huh? My mom just got back from US and she loves the trip! She said the Grand Canyon is so beautiful and breathtaking!

  11. 4) Places I have been to and don't quite feel like going again – I would say Canada and Cambodia. To be honest I did not really visit Canada but the mistake made by my Korean friend for accidentally driving into Canada during the Niagara Falls trip got us into really very big troubles. We had entered Canadian highway unexpectedly without passports and the car could not make a U-Turn anywhere. We were held up by the authorities who interrogated me and the Koreans in separate rooms to confess our 'crime'. I was held longer as I looked like a Chinese mafia, I guess so. We had to sign deportation papers and do not know whether we could enter again. So much so that I wished to visit Toronto and Vancouver someday, I guess I better not take the risks unless I check with the embassy first whether Anay's name is blacklisted there?? Muahahahaha

Cambodia is a very lovely place that was a real eye opener and sparked off my life long interests in visiting all the historical sites in China and Japan. The Angkor Wat itself taught me that nothing is permanent in this life. This feared Kingdom of Cambodia was once a powerful country which had many fierce battles with Burma and Siam has been reduced to become the world's poorest nations. That is really unbelievable. It could happen to any super power countries today if they do not safeguard and become greedy. Their past greed have driven them to poverty stage! I have seen enough of Angkor Wat and saw no reason to go again.

    1. Seems like you also don't like to go to Cambodia again due to the fact you been there and has seen enough. I thought Cambodia is a great tourist attractions ..hahaha... and the food is like Vietnamese.

Oh. you had a bad experience entering Canada ...muashahahas.... but that only an incident, you shouldn't blacklist Canada like that. hahaha..

If they follow tour group, then different story, I mean if the other party went on a backpack trip, something like that.. Or, people ask questions to start a conversation, haha.. Like during lunch time, they see you eating, they ask "eating ahh?".. wakakakaka.. Or at 5.30pm, when you wana leave, and take your bag, they ask "fong gung jor la?"... Uikkss...

  20. I agree that we should not be comparing trips as in want to one up each other but can compare to see which places we have missed out and worth to go next time. Hahaha, you got a category called places been to but don't feel like going again. You did not list Bangkok or any cities in Thailand under any of your categories.

  23. Hmm, I think I talk most about trips I went is on this blog of mine, travelogue to be precise... Hehe.
Of course if friends/family ask about it, I will also mention la, but just a brief one. Unless if they ask in details, as if they are planning to go, they wanna ask more details, then I am glad to share more also la.

Let see, your 'definition' of the countries is quite interesting...

    1. Japan and Thailand is in my list. Really can never get tired of one. Hehe. Japan is for its yummy Japanese food, also all cute interesting stuff there, and also their nice weather!
Thailand, is for their cheap and yummy food, and most importantly is their cheap shopping stuff! Not forgetting, their massage service =)

    2. High 5, Paris is in my list. No doubt it's not so cheap traveling there (with our RM currency issue), but I really want to see that amazing Iron Lady again, hehe, so romantic and beautiful! And also their weather la. But as for those branded bags, or their people, or their food, not so attractive to me already :p

    3. Pulau Redang! Been there in 2009 and really wanted to go again. That time was with my then-bf and friends, this time if I have the chance to go again, sure bringing my family there, I am sure this will be a total whole new experience and feeling.

    4. Erm, probably Spain. Cause nothing really attractive to me. Eh why you pick Singapore in this category? Not good ar? Actually I have been to Singapore once, when I was very young, so I can't actually recall anything about it. Hmm, may be I should put Singapore in point 3 above..... :p

    1. everybody loves Japan and Thailand, one being a pleasant and nice place to visit while the other one is cheaper. I also love these places!! Both have great food which is appealing to our tastebud.

I am sure all ladies love Paris, being a romantic place! To me, it's definitely a great place for coffee...haaha... and i love the green countryside over there, not forgetting the fresh citrus fruits and wine!

How about the East Europe that you have went to, Serbia , Bosnia or something like that? Those seems are places less travel!

I never been to Redang and waiting to go there someday. Wah .. so you went there before marriage huh?

      Delete
    2. Yea, I agree. Japan is nice cause of its yummy food (for those Japanese food lovers la), nice weather, interesting culture, and friendly people. Thailand pula, because of their cheap shopping and stuff.

True, people who love coffee or desserts sure love Paris as well. And also can go there buy branded bags la, LOL

Oh, East Europe is nice also, not that common but they do have hidden nice cultures and view. Bosnia is nicer than what I expected. But of course food wise, to me, not that ok la, cause we hardly expose to their food so not so ngam my appetite lo...

Redang is nice, their beach and sea is so pretty and clean. They say if wanna go must go soon, else it will become polluted soon! Yep, I went there before I got married.

    1. Frankly, except for a few places in KL, I also not too keen in going to KL. The main reason is security, it seems a bit insecure in KL nowadays. Heard a lot of news in car park burglary, pickpockets, gangster kinda traders , the low yat incidents as well as it is crowded.

having said that, I still love places like Pavillion, especially Christmas where the decor was so nice, Ikano Power centre and Mid-Valley.

  25. Most folks likes to blog about the places they been to and so am I. Well, it's not very often we travel unless we are retired, too much money, too much time and so on, thus it's allright to blog about it. However, I do agreed with you that it's better you experience the place for yourself rather than listen others stories, though checking out others opinions may not give you some idea of that place. But then, nowadays, with blogging as a tool for ads, its also not easy not find out whether the blog is authentic or not.

    ReplyDelete
  26. People will definitely gets bored if thy never been to certain places before, if the story is bored. hahahah... Anyway, I don't think if its a bored story, they may even want to read it and move on to the next blog on that same place again. After all, if one wanted to go a certain place badly, they would not bother about it and will go all out for it to experience it. A lot of folks told me cities like Bangkok, HK and even SG are boring cos its only shopping as well as crowded but I believe there's always attractive stuffs for all to see.

This is especially so if you never been that place before and you will find it very refreshing to visit that place for the first time.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Yeah, I do agreed all places are different and have their own exquisite charms. I was on a simple day tour around Langkawi town 2 years ago and though the island was famous for its resorts and beaches, I love going around town and see the idyllic nature of the town centre. It was very quiet and very 'kampung' style kinda environment and I don't believe I was in Langkawi then. It was another side of Langkawi, not the beautiful sand beaches and resorts but just low costing villages, stretches of shops and lots of kampung villages. It was kinda a relaxing trip to me as well as a nice getaway from the city life.

I also visited Phuket too and due to having small kids around, we didn't play water games but went around as tour around Phuket. It was one of the best trip I ever had! I enjoy seeing the life of the other side of the people in Phuket, visit their malls in the heartlands, their villages or 'taman', the quiet smaller roads, the shophouses selling all sorts of stuffs and services to their own people (and not tourists like those in Patong beach), government offices and etc.

It was great but to some , it could be boring.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I am not very well travel like you and moreover with small kids around now, it's even much difficult to travel as well as financial commitment. I should have traveled more during my single and younger days ..hahaha.. but then, there are not so many budget airlines like now.

I probably won't get tired of visiting Japan as it's a place I always wanted to go! I love several places in Thailand too like Phuket, ChiangMai and Pataya and not forgetting Hua Hin! It's near and I don't mind going again and again!

I also don't mind visit Penang again and again..... it's the best local place to visit for me, though I seldom go there nowadays since it's too far! I used to go to Penang very frequent when I was still residing in Ipoh.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Places I have been to in recent years and hope to revisit. Well, that definitely will be Phuket as I mentioned before. I was on a cruise and it only stopped for a day there. I definitely wanted to see all of the island ...hahaha...

wow...so you been to Paris, Kyoto and Beijing! I guess you have been travelling at least once per year and this is great! I never been to these places but hope to go soon! Yes, I guess its well worth to revisit these places again as it is so big and there are a lot of attractions over there like Beijing. My parents really enjoyed going to Beijing compared to Shanghai as there are so much for them to see. Shanghai is too commercial for them I guess.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I guess it's not difficult to go to Bali as it's near, just a 3 hour flight and you can get the flights anytime via budget airline. Dubai sounds nice but it's much more expensive over there and you might have to stay in those desert resorts...hahaha... I am sure riding the camels to check out the deserts is a one in a lifetime experience which I guess you may want to do it again, as well as enjoying the delicious dates.
Brighton ? That's where you studied right ? Oh, I am sure you would love to go back there though to me, their soccer team is not as strong...hahaha... Well, when I leave JB after my studies then and stayed in SG, I always wanted to check out the campus again whenever I got a chance. Thus for you, it's even normal for you to wanted to go back there and look around.

    ReplyDelete
  31. hahaha... what happens to Singapore where you doesn't like to come again ? OK la, even most of my Malaysian friends doesn't like to come here. Most of time cited the high exchange rate which they prefer to spend it elsewhere. Afterall, its more about shopping here while other tourism attractions like Garden by the Bay , Sentosa Island, the zoo and etc, are all man-made and not as natural. It may be better to visit the Great Wall of China, Pyramids, Eiffel tower, Stonehenge, 12 Apostles and etc.

What happened to Siem Reap in Cambodia? I never been there... it is due to those war relics and war exhibitions which you are not interested in ?

We have been to Hong Kong, but my two daughters are very keen to visit Hong Kong, so we may plan to Hong Kong again. I wish it will materialize in next year.

As for my own choice and liking, I want to go Europe in these few years. I hope this can be materialized too.

Finally, we make our wish comes true this December, that we are visiting Japan and Singapore . So looking forwards to the trips.

    5. I guess most of the folks here love Thailand. To me, it can be several factors like cheaper goods over there, near, friendly people (I always feel that the Thais are a friendly lot) , nice ambience and beautiful beaches. Taiwan is another place where a lot of people love to return again. My niece been going there for two times consecutively in two years. These are must visit places.

Yannie seems very well-traveled and great that you can follow your hubby for business trip. He worked while you go around town and shop. Some hubby are too busy with their work and they don't fel like taking their wives over...hahaha

HK should be a great attractions for kids with Disneyland around and moreover, we can speak Cantonese. The dim sum is great there too!

  34. It is good also la to blog about your trip, SK. At least as a record . Guess you surely back up your blog right? A digital record of where you have been to and what you have done there lo. As time goes on, our memory is not as accurate as when we are younger. Many things gets "deleted" . Hence, recording in your blog is as an additional diary lo

Yes, I know you are generous with your knowledge and share with everyone your advice on what is best to do here and there during your trip. Guess all this will help readers also la.

Those who are keen to travel to the said places will read in detail while those who are not interested can just drop a line or two lor. It's a matter of personal choice la.

At least yours is not blogging about the same place over and over again la. Nice to have this travelogue also la

As anay would say...this brings good merits? helping other mah

    1. I agreed with kucing. Sometimes I will reread my old posts which includes my travelogue though I seldom travels, just a few. It's nice to recalled the experience again as well as appreciate what we have written and the time and efforts spent. I also revisit the pictures I posted on Facebook and enjoyed those moments where I spent time traveling. Some of these trips seems so yesterday though it's been years away.

SK is meticulous with his post and usually wrote very detailed description of his travelogue like the Japan trip last year as well as the Bangkok trip this year. I do found out a lot of information from there where I can check it out if I go to that place.

And yeah never see him repeat his blog again. I remember there are bloggers who keep digging their previous trips and re blog. Hahha..

  35. funny you should say anout comparing and complaining...makes me think of some people who wanna travel but the kept on complaining about the food, accomodation and culture that is so much different from their own and how their own is much nicer.

Makes me think that this type of people is not suitable to travel. Might as well save some money and stay home.

The purpose of traveling is to see others country and their culture...go with an open mind and not kept comparing with own country.

There is nothing actually "better" than another. It all depends on individual preference.

    1. There are always all sorts of folks who started complaining when they step onto the plane till they reached home. I guess they came from comfortable places and never really subjected to other countries problems and demand a lot of things.

I encountered some folks from our neighbor country who was complaining of waiting for buffet lunch or dinner where it was not ready yet and these folks are really inpatient. They even scolded the waiters which can't do much as everything must be in order before serving. They also demand lots of food and I don't they can finished it!

I like the Caucasians. They are usually calm and gentleman and very patience!

  36. Uiks...i thought in your previous post you mentioned that once you go to a place, you will make sure that you visit all the city and sight that you wanted to see then go on to the next in your bucket list.

Guess Hong Kong and japan must be very unique for you to want to visit it again. Hong Kong I think I can guess la why you are keen to visit it again. More like you wanna visit your ex-collegua and friends there instead of viewing the city kot? The city...maybe you have been to most of the nooks and corners there already.

Japan pulak is too big. Just like china. One trip is not enough to visit the whole japan. Have to break into a few trips baru bagus. Hopefully Ringgit Malaysia will bounce back and your dream can come true soon la. Meantime...cuti-cuti Malaysia lor

    1. I don't think we can visit all the places in a country at a single tour unless we stayed and worked in that country for a while. Oh, so SK has friends in HK, no wonder he wanted to go back there. That also mean SK is well versed and know Hk well. Then , all the more reasons he wanted to revisit the place. I got a hk friend who used to work here and also come to SG regularly and visited his friends and colleagues. Same as my Indonesian friend too who went back home. They have lots of friends here.
Japan is always a great place to visit though it's very expensive. Every place there whether in Honshu or Hokkaido sure got their attractions. And the people are friendly too. I never heard of anyone who doesn't like Japan so far.

    1. Hahahha... Maybe SK is the romantic type and like places like Paris while Anay love nature like mountain hiking in China , which looks scary to me especially the emei mount. So steep and high!!

Or SK got a Paris girlfriend there and started learning French .. Hahahha..

  38. wanna visit Bali again? hmm...for me i think i won;t go there again. From a fren's recent trip to Bali, i see nothing much changes there. For me, i would go to the next place in my bucket list before i would consider going back to visit Bali again.

    1. I think it's ok to go there if never been there before. There's still the beautiful beaches and some nice heritage sites. I got a friend and my bro who keep visiting Bali , another reason is that place is also cheaper.

I would considered going to Bali next year , somewhere not too far and can see see around , though I'm not into water sports. I will probably check out the heritage sites there.

  39. I am curious...why you don't feel like going to Singapore again? Is it because it's too similar to Malaysia or...?

    1. Speculated by Zumba king Sharon and me. Could be due to high exchange rate but SK may have other reasons. Still waiting for him to reply ... Hahah..

Another reason could be he may not find the city life in Singapore appealing as most of stuffs here are not nature though there's some but mostly an urban jungle, but clean and well maintained and safe.

  40. True, no point comparing places because every destination is different and every place has its own charm. Sgp is good to visit once in a while - just to enjoy a place quite like ours but on a holiday mode. Am I making sense? :D

My ideal holiday is one where I can spend time to soak in the local culture - something like doing the mundane things that locals do. Nice!

    1. It really depends on ones preferences. Some like to shop and places like Singapore ,hk , Bangkok , Shanghai , Tokyo are more appealing. To those who like beaches and water sports , they will love beach resorts like Bali , boracay, hainan island, redang, tioman, Phuket, koa Sami, his hin and etc.
Those who love nature will love places like Angkor wat , the mounts and lakes in China , the great canyons, Bali again , Sapporo, some places in India and etc.
It's all depends on one cup of tea. No point comparing !

  41. I actually think comparing other countries are not that bad as long as you do it the good way....I mean you can tell say that this item from one country is somehow similar to this item in this country or you can tell that this country reminds me of this country and so on... but if you throw nothing but complains saying that this country is definitely better than this country... then therefore, you are not paying any respect to that country ... just my two cents LOL
