[Volume 10 Issue 5, #2021]
Bangkok: A 90/10 Leisure/Business Trip (3 of 3)
my last two trips to Bangkok were in the same month 8 years ago, both sponsored by my then-company, one for training and the other a company team-building trip.. before this, my Thai experience was in early 2000s when i went to Haadyai twice.. these four trips were when i learned a little basic colloquial Thai as well as their local food.. as the final post for this series of Bangkok travelogue, i know many readers can't wait to read about what i had eaten throughout the trip.. okay, like a food post is a must, here you go.. but please pardon me as i did not (remember to) take many photos, and FYI i did not have tomyum and sticky rice with mango.. thanks for reading!! :)

3A The chef must be very proud got people 欣赏 his fried rice, so purposely cook one fore you lo.

Soy sauce ya? Not become very salty meh?? My nephew he likes to eat food with soy sauce all the time until the 病态 like that, but I've never tried before ya, we always told him not to put too much because it's very salty ya..

    1. SK is a lovable guy , thus even the chefs also like him. Furthermore, THia are friendly people, so, I am sure they won't reject his order, and he also ben dining there daily.

Somehow, I like soya sauce especially with fish balls and yong tau foo. of course, another one is chilli. But soya sauce on toast is a bit 'strange' to me. muahahaha...

    2. i think if you tell somebody that you miss his/her cooking, i am sure he/she will be very happy and don't mind cooking especially for you again.. hey, just a dash of soy sauce on the butter toast, IT IS NICE, be more adventurous and try that, hahaha!!!

  2. Eh, I think this part 3 ngam most of us the most, coz it’s about food, sure got things to write ma, no need to squeeze brain juice to think.. hehe.. Ok, let’s see, 3A got all the breakfast food, normal la, I’d eat all these too in the hotel for breakfast.. Cannot miss the omelette and sausages and toasts.. Wah, the chef purposely cooked a plate of fried rice for you, specially just for you, no charge, wah, good wor.. That day must be your lucky day.. Butter with soya sauce? Tak pernah cuba, must relaly try it leh..

As for the street food in Bangkok, I remember the soupy beef noodles.. Very nice.. Had that at night before going back to the hotel.. Ooooo, I see all

Western food in 3C.. The last time I went, my first meal was McD’s pork burger.. But since you ask us to forget about that, ok, I will take note of this Burker King instead..

Ahhh, yogurt drinks.. I will also go to their 7-11 and see see look look their products, especially in Thai words, see got any difference or special or not..

Call me jakun or broken England.. What is plantain?

Wahhhh, I love that McParfait !!! Looks so interesting, bet it taste nice too, with the honey coated cashew nuts and sticky rice..

Haha, love your simple green home-made lunch.. I will omit all the veges and just eat an apple and cheese.. Coz I don’t like vege ma..

    2. yalor, at first i was so worried that she misunderstood that i want to order the fried rice ala carte and then charge it to my room, luckily she didn't and it was all complimentary..

now we all know why this Princess Ribbon only does her "big business" once only after few days, because she doesn't like to eat veggie!!!

yeah, if you go to Thailand, do try Burger King and ask for pork patties, much nicer than McD Samurai Burger..

  3. Unfortunately, you are not the first person to try toast with butter and soy sauce, LOL! But you are definitely right that it is wonderful! :D

The khao kha moo, TBH 350? Is that a typo? Otherwise that means more than RM 35 isn't it? I wouldn't call that cheap for food from street stalls :/ ...

  4. Good morning bloggers. I am eating miserable breakfast now while drooling at thambee's luxury meals in Bangkok. The hotel provided very delicious basic and complete choices. I would always eat to maximum as my brunch to save time for lunch until tea time. That would save money too for me.

    2. 3a – You are so cute to speak some smattering Thai to the chef until melted her heart. So pandai mengurat hati lah this Thambee!! If I had spoken to the chef, I think I would get nothing cos I don't look cute like Doraemon. Muahahahaha I wonder whether the chef is an old lady who is seeking for a potential groom for her daughter who is a Poo Ying Suai Suai.....

I am surprised that you had toasts with butter and soya sauce. It should be edible no doubt but why didn't you out the fried eggs onto the bread and smear with some tom yam paste from their kitchen. You might arrive at heaven's doors after trying it. I love their black tom yam paste. Next time I buy for you ok!

    3. 3b – What a lovely set of photos shared. I would eat them everyday too in Bangkok besides their Khanom Jeen Noodles. I wonder whether you weight and cholesterol have increased??

I wanted to cry when I saw the food cos my mother always cooked them for me all my life. I guess that I need to go to Bangkok to eat them now. In fact, I have been eating them nowadays for some years in PJ since I didn't live with my parents for a long time. I find that almost all the stalls or restaurants in Thailand cook & serve almost similar standard taste for all their pork dishes whether pork legs or fried basil pork rice. You can feast them at these 2 restaurants in PJ >> Thai Frame @ Happy Mansion, Section 17 and Black Canyon @ Centrepoint Bandar Utama.

    4. 3c – Ooo La La!!! Aroi Mak! Aroi Mak! I love those bacons sticking out. I know you exposed it for photography purpose to make us drool. I didn't know that you could get pork burgers in Burger King there as they have many religious people living there who abstain from these meat. Oh well, different country has different rules.

The Thais have many good chefs who could cook international cuisines very well regardless of which countries. I think the folks there have very strong tasting tongues that could easily help them to master the cooking skills. I am speaking from my own experience after observing my own mother. They often toy and try out many variations until someone would rope them into cooking demos and competitions. Every year, so many new innovative Thai dishes are created and shared in the news & TV. That's how the folks live and focus on the art of cooking, fruit & vegetable carvings and general Arts.

    5. 3d – I am so outdated with their products on supermarket shelves now. You seem to observe them better than anyone else in Bangkok. I would only pay attention to their local products when I visited Japan or China. I love yoghurt too and always stock all types in my fridge here in KL. You can visit me to eat them, tak payah go to Thailand. Mai Pen Rai... Mai Pen Rai... Fing Fing drank Meiji's banana milk!!! That's Japanese product and we still never heard of them in KL. How about you? What did you drink? Banana Milk too, I guess.

The Thais seem to love sweety stuffs. Look at their kueh-kueh sold everywhere....so sweet until you get diabetic on the spot. Wakakakaka

      Delete
    6. 3e – I wanna laugh at your statement that Thais are so slim! I would say that the fat ones are too lazy to come out to be seen, so they probably stay at home. That's how I saw them lah. Muahahaha
Anyway, I would say that they are many better and good looking Thais everywhere, be it males or females or even shemales & ladyboys! Their eating culture is definitely different from Malaysians and we are somewhat less creative. My siblings always curse my few relatives from the South when they come to visit as they are too fussy. They have this bad habit to compare their temples and food with ours. Those BKK relatives are more adaptable and would shaddup to eat whatever we fed them.

I agree that the Pomegranate juice is so cheap for THB40 a bottle!!! Here we have to pay for minimum RM9.00 to RM14.00 a bottle. That's robbery. I think this fruit is getting very popular these days after being discovered to contain so much anti-oxidants and vitamins besides giving out the tasty juice. So refreshing to quench our thirsts in the hot weather.

      Delete
    7. 3f – Everyone knows that too much coke is not healthy but since you are on holiday, just drink la. Mai Pen Rai! They always serve with plenty of crushed ice for the coke to make it so diluted but refreshingly nice. Their sundae ice cream has always been my favourite since I was a small boy. I have so much vivid memories that my mum had to buy me 2-3 cups per day in Bangkok. That's how she pampered me and look at my awful size today!! Ooops!
I wonder why our sundae here is so different from Thailand's.

    8. 3g – Wow!!! Thambee you walked so much in Thailand for a week's stay! More than you walked in Kuala Lumpur throught a year of 365 days! How come your statistic didn't show your actual weight??Tsk! Tsk! Lousy demographics lah. Anyway I believed you weight had remained unchanged or dropped many kilos! Good that you won't feel guilty for the holiday that included all the binge eating of porky meals, sweets and ice creams! Congratulations for the healthy holidays!!

    9. 3h – Now back to reality and you turned into a goat instantly to feast on the greens. That's normal to cheat yourself temporary and not feel guilty. I bet by next week, you would be killing your bathroom scales again after eating fatty Char Koay Teow and Bak Kut Teh!! Welcome to life in Kuala Lumpur. Thank you Thambee for sharing your one week in Bengkok!!! Wakakakakaka

My old company usually send us to KL for training only tarak go overseas. Paling best is team building training coz no need to go through exam just go play and eat like kids play school hahaha. Maybe yours also same kihkihkih

Four trips only over so many years yet you can learn some of the colloquil thai language. Very brainy leh. Memang asset to the company la. Fast learner.

you saving the best for last ah? so that after we look at all the photos then tgis weekend can go hunting all Thai food restaurant to eat tghai food ah.... top left...salad looks good..minus the pineapple. You know me la. hahaha. put more mayo lagi best but then not very healthy lo. that is they serve to you or did you take punya. nice presentation la.

Bottom left. Why la the confused face? dunno what to eat is it? or not enough food? hahaha

Top right. Mak oi.....you ah...manis mulut . Specially cook that plate of fried rice for you . But then memang la. Sometimes when you tell the chef honestly the food taste nice they also happy and they might even add more nice stuffs for you. In life when food not nice or what we only know how to complain but when the food is nice, seldom we tell the person that making it that the food is nice. same goes for service. Should praise more then everyone will be more happy .

Bottom right : hahaha toast with soy sauce. wei...you tarak go puji the waiter and say the jam very nice or cute meh? Joking la

toast with soy sauce sounds good leh. after all the chinese fried ham chim peah also have the sweet(with red beans) and the salty type (plain) . So Toast is just something like the ham chim peah. got salty type also not surprising lot.

Have you tried Milo and coffee? My former colleague taught me mixed milo and coffee. No need add sugar and creamer. sedap leh. Maybe it's the same as the Mamak stall neslo kot.

Can I call you "gila babi"(in a joking sort of way, not the scolding rude way)? hahaha....yesterday saw a friend posted in FB that there is a signboard in a restaurant that says gila babi. A good way to advertise. hahaha...normally people think the word gila babi is to scold but this one not.

The way you wrote this second photo collage really reminds me of that word lo.

Khao kao moo makes me imagine of something to do with cow coz of the english sounding words. Aiyo ...you kill me la...so drooling good leh the braise pork trotter with rice. Some do not eat pork trotter coz say the legs walked on everything including the poo but i do not mind eating the trotter. So yummy leh. Here wanna buy pig trotter in pasar to cook very expensive leh., There so cheap.

What? Minus the fat and skin? Mana sedap if like that. With the fat and skin baru la sedap. tak mau , you baling here kasi me makan. I love it. Yummmm...especially when it melts in the mouth.

wei...the other 3 are what ah..the one with the soup looks very nice wor. is it like the hot pepper soup? Yum yum leh

You know what...time changes. Just think. What food did we have now that we did not have 10 years ago?

Looks like Thai is changing by the year too. When we dnt visit a place for a long time, we would find things changed. Looks like they are more health concious and provide visitors with a healthier choice of snack leh.

Good idea. I think soon we will have it here in Malaysia too.

You know the apam balik in malaysia only have the jagung ones long time ago? Now they have apam baik Chocolate, strawberry, cheese and etc, indonesia already have it long time ago.

Pomegranate juice so cheap. Like that buy more and drink leh. Pomegranate have a lot of health benefit wor

The shape of the coca-cola over there now is same shape as the new 100 plus can here ha. Tall and slim. Hahaha...looks like the tall and slim trend is catching on now leh. Easier grip for even children to hold. Like the milo can. Tall and slim. less chances of spilling.

fuiyo....the sundae there can have so many toppings ah. Maybe the cost of things there is lower kot. all those nuts there cheaper than here kot?

hmm..anyway, I don;t think I will try that... muahahaha.... I will likely down with butter. Its nice too though we shared the same taste - Kaya toast.

It's really cheap at that price. Don't think can find it here. Anyway. great that you are health conscious and rip off the fat else I think you need to run 10KM per day....muahahaha

I can see you like fruits and with all these fresh fruits there, I am sure you are delighted! Its nice to hear there are so many fruit stalls there. Can have fresh juice anytime. Pomegranate is very healthy and delicious, and refreshing too!

I like their design , and I may buy 1 can back as a souvenir. Different countries got different designs and I am sure the collectors will love it.

Wah...I like that dessert. Wait a minute, is it from MCd or the stalls? The dessert is very Thai or nyonya to me. It's always nice to eat local delicacy where you are in another country.

I guess you have been walking around sight-seeing and walk from one place to another place .... Well, I don't think I can do that as I am impatience. 1. The top left hand corner is fruits and salads. I see watermelon, pineapple and salad stuff. That I admit I am not so keen for breakfast. I mean I love my salads and fruits but not so much in the morning. This one I would prefer as an accompaniment during lunch or dinner.

      Delete
    2. The fried rice looks quite plain but from what you say, it is delicious and full of flavours. I love fried rice in any style and in particular Thai or Chinese style. You see, the chef was so flattered by your compliment that she specially fried the rice for you even though it was not on the menu for the day. A little appreciation goes a long way, huh?

    3. I quite like the way it is served, with lettuce and cucumbers. There is something else on the far right corner which I can't see.

    4. Now the toast (which I saw on your FB) with butter and soya sauce is a curiosity. How is it that you decide on soya sauce to make up for the lack of jam? I am trying to imagine a buttery toast with a dash of soya sauce. Hmm...this one must really try it to solve the mystery hee..hee...

    5. Sausages and eggs! Yes, this is one of my top favourites for any time. I love it especially with baked beans and tomato sauce. And top that with buttery toast, I am a happy auntie!

  34. I also love yoghurt but I only take the flavoured ones. Yoghurt drink not so much because I find it too sweet. Really kah the yogurt here is thickened with starch? We are not getting a good deal then.

    1. I used to love the imported yoghurt because they tasted a lot nicer. But sadly these are no longer affordable. I only get them of they are on offer. So the Thai ones are lots better than our local ones, eh? An dcheaper too I guess. Then you would be on yoghurt overload in Bangkok and enjoy while you can. I see Fing Fing is a happy boy with his banana yoghurt drink.

    2. the locally manufactured yoghurt and yoghurt drinks in Malaysia are all overly sweet and they use thickeners to thicken the yoghurt.. i have stopped buying them.. i only started to buy yoghurt drinks again for my overnight oats.. those in Thailand are so much nicer and even cheaper..

    3. oh yeah, i rarely drink Coke over here but it tasted so nice over there in Bangkok, muahahahaha!! i think because they serve drinks with very finely crushed ice (not like our big ice cubes), making the drinks nicer and more refreshing, and of course i think the hot weather makes Coke even nicer to drink there :D

If I am not mistaken, friend and I took the breakfast for 2 days only, cause kinda bored already, the other 2 days we went hunting for food outside.

Wah you are being treated so nicely, the chef purposely cook for you!
I think your 魅力 manage to attract the chef's attention la, not bad ma! :p

Oh ya, I love toast too! Just that at home, we won't really make toast, lazy... So when we go outside like when traveling, we sure will make toast if there's toast maker. And don't know is it 心理作用 or what, toast we eat outside taste so much better! ;)
