i am sure there are times when you have no idea what to have for lunch, especially if there are little choices available around your office or house.. i am lucky that choices are quite abundant in my office vicinity, yet can get bored with the repetitions everyday.. so, the other day i just thought of settling lunch inside office, a simple and very simple lunch indeed with the rice in green tea with salmon (さけ茶漬け sake chazuke) sachets bought from supermarket earlier.. went downstairs to tabao some plain rice and back in office, pour all the things in a bowl and lunch was ready in less than a minute!! simple, quick, convenient and tasty, though this "a la office" at less than RM5 cannot compare with that "a la restaurant" at RM30 i had in Japan lah.. will i do this again?? absolutely~~ :p

    1. Ok, come.. First thing first.. Lunch+office.. I got a lot to say on this already.. Lunch leh, if you have already know me by now, I used to bring my own lunch to work.. No, I don’t cook in the morning, but I use leftover dinner from the evening before.. Previously, I used to cook everyday after work.. Simple food la.. Like steamed fish, fry one vege and one egg.. Like Monday steamed egg with minced meat, Tuesday fried onion egg, Wednesday tomato egg, Thursday is steamed water egg with hamtan and peitan, then Friday is luncheon meat fried egg.. Ok kidding, I don’t eat so much eggs in a week ok..

So leh, back to my lunch topic.. Usually I will keep some in a container during my dinner, and keep it in the fridge.. The next morning I bring to work, then heat up in the microwave during lunch..

    2. The the MIL and my mum also gave us food to pack home when we go visit them every weekend.. So yes, we have a lot of food to be eaten during the week.. Monday and Tuesdays normally no need to cook, since we have food from MIL and my mum.. I only cook starting on Wednesday onwards..

      Delete
    3. But recently, I’ve stopped cooking..Hubby is working on a project and comes home late, so he won’t be helping me to cook as well.. I reach home later and later, and it’s too late to cook.. I tried cooking for a few weeks, but the kids could only eat at 8.45pm, poor thing.. And after washing the dishes and all, it was already 9.30pm! What the ?? And I’ve not even showered yet.. I also need my own sanity..

Kam min keong chou mat yet? So yeah, I tapau food on the way home everyday now..

      Delete
    4. Ok, back to your lunch topic.. First thing I see is it looks like furikake.. I have two packs of furikake at home.. One pack is seaweed+egg, and another one is seaweed with black sesame seeds, something like that.. Price is about RM6.90 for a pack.. I bought it when I was crazy over bento making previously.. Sprinkled some on rice, and it looks great already.. But well, 3 minutes hot, the two packs are still inside my fridge.. I usually just use a spoon and scoop them and put it in my mouth, haha..

      Delete
    5. Can your salmon green tea be eaten just as it is from the packet? I mean, ok, sprinkle on your rice, and eat just like that? Neh, like bento..People roll the rice into balls, and sprinkle these thingy on top of the rice, without adding hot water? Or you need the hot water to “boil” those dried salmon? But I guess it is supposed to eat with hot water hor, soupy rice.. “farn lou tong”.. I like..

      Delete
    6. Everyday eat out also will be sien hor.. Once a while stay in office eat oats and fruits, or even Milo and soda peang also taste very good.. Serious.. When I’m bored eating out with them, I’ll just stay in the office and make Milo+soda peang, sedap jugak..

      Delete
    7. I’ve tried more convenient ways to have lunch in the office.. Rice, from home.. And I have a bottle of Bovril here.. Just add Bovril+hot water into my rice, and voila! Lunch ready in less than 30 seconds! I have soup and rice liao.. Faster than you, hehe..

      Delete
    8. And just yesterday, I saw my colleague eating white bread with Milo powder sprinkled on top.. Lagi cheap and convenient, Milo is from the pantry, free flow.. Haha..

  10. I did almost the same like you, SK. When I was too lazy to prepare meal for April and May, I would use instant Miso soup, and cooked Japanese rice to make some onigiri for them to eat with Japanese soy sauce. Hey! I tell you, they would eat more rice than usual. They enjoyed this type of simple Japanese style meal very much. So, your version of ochazuke is not bad too. I will introduce to April and May.

    1. As for me, my most simple meal would be overnight oats. If really I didn't have anything to eat, I will eat cream crackers with coffee as lunch. Normally I will eat light on weekdays, weekends eat a little bit better meal. hahahah!

    2. I usually buy all these Japanese food and thingy from Daiso when I went to KL/Penang/Ipoh. Next month, the new AEON is opening in my place, woot! I get to buy lots of Japanese goodies, happy!

    3. ah, i think the girls will like this because it's japanese rice and green tea.. if they don't, then Yannie has to wallop them all for the girls, hahaha!! this ochazuke will be something simple and light (i mean not oily and heavy) for lunch, especially if you are busy..

  11. Oh, I have never tasted this before.. maybe I still dont know how to enjoy drinking miso soup yet... but give me their fried rice, I will gobble them down!

  26. Ochazuke? Is that the Japanese version of rice + soup? My kids love rice + soup at home - lotus root soup with rice, ABC soup with rice.... easy and convenient (means no need to cook other dish, muahahaha!)

    ReplyDelete
  27. I find the soup-in-pack is very genius and easy. Keep it in the pocket and bring to anywhere and you can get the soup ready with a pot of hot water :D

I can even trick my kids that I own a Doraemon-like pocket which can make soup appears out of nowhere, muahahahaha!

    1. Waiting for AEON's opening next month near my town *happy mode* I'm gonna search for this instant soup and make it my daily lunch set.

  28. Wow, looks yummy!!!

I wonder can we get this at Tesco/Giant? You know la Taiping's a small town, we only got these 2 hyper markets here, so choices are limited... But but Aeon Taiping is opening next month, so may be that time I can go and buy and taste it myself!

Call me jakun la but I never know it's that easy!! I seen this dish before but I don't know the ready packed version is so easy to prepare! It's like our Maggi cup noodles, pour everything and pour hot water.. But I am sure this one you shared is much more healthier and more filling, hehe!

I must go and buy this next time! Oh ya forgot to mention the price is very reasonable too!

Yep I remember those times when I was working, our company canteen sells Malay rice every single day, honestly it's really boring. So even though it's free, many of us still go out for lunch, we rather spend RM 4 eating a satisfactory plate of chicken rice, hehe.
But sometimes really running out of idea what to eat, especially if it's raining heavily outside, very not convenient to go out, and don't feel like eating canteen food, so just nibble on bread/biscuits which I always spare at the drawer, or, simply just eat cup noodles. And if I got what you have here, it's even better! Just need to cook the rice (we got rice cooker at the pantry), or buy from the canteen, then can enjoy already, hehe. Good huh?
