[#1238] it's not a travel post today, afterall i've not been travelling this couple of years, what could i post right?? i remember there was once that i'd get a postcard every place i go, affix local stamp and post it back to myself, to commemorate myself being there at that place.. looks silly yeah?? but i think that's kind of meaningful actually..

anyway, i realised most of the time it's not so convenient to get stamps and the postcards posted, so i slowly abandoned doing that.. instead when i go travel recently, the rarely-buy-souvenir me will look for some small size decoratives.. look at our fridge here and you know i'm talking about fridge magnets!! so, if anyone likes to get me any souvenir, please get me fridge magnets rather than key chains ok?? hehehe :)

  1. I do that too.

Send postcards to myself during vacation for the stamps. :)

  9. I like the idea of magnet and key chain souvenir. I have more key chains compare to magnet, actually I have no special preference on both - means anything will do for me, hehehe

    ReplyDelete
  10. Putting those beautiful magnets on fridge door, I have only several concerns:
    1) Hard to clean the fridge surface with all those magnets around.
    2) Tends to lure my children, as if they would say, "Pick me, choose me. I'm cute", and when landed in their hands - the result that I foresee is, my precious magnets now in pieces.
    3) The magnets will get "oily" eventually, especially with my constant cooking (frying) done in the kitchen.

yeah, i think the postcards and stamps are the best thing to represent a place right?? but now i think fridge magnet also good, so during your next visit to Japan, you can buy me a nice fridge magnet, kekeke~~ Twilight Man?? must be chasing Letchumi around the coconut trees and jasmine bushes~~ :D relly?? so far there's no accident with the fridge magnets, they are still intact on the fridge door - even if we have more people and younger kids at home compared to you~~ :D

    @ suituapui:
oh really?? are you kidding me?? ok ok, i will send you my address, and if you like, i can send you the KL ones~~ :p

    ReplyDelete
  49. @ Alice Law:
hahaha, but i think still can add more as there's still a lot of empty spaces!! that's only the upper door, still got the lower door which is not occupied at all, haha!! errr, maybe you can to consider those plastic or rubber magnets?? sure will stay safe under your two sprouts' "care", haha!! :D

    @ yvonne:
i think i prefer fridge magnets more than keychains lor, maybe because i've received too many keychains from friends and colleagues, but i don't have any chance to use them.. so at least those magnets i can use them to decorate my fridge, haha!! hmm, your concerns seems like all due to the location of your fridge woh.. next time use a big cover to cover your fridge when you are cooking so it won't get oily lor, hahahaha!! as for the kids problem, go for rubber or plastic magnets lah, sure safe!! :D

    ReplyDelete
  50. @ Sheoh Yan:
haha, yeah, i think keychain is too common now, better buy fridge magnet as it looks nicer.. haha, yah, that vietnamese dolls is in a couple, but my sister took one and brought back to her house, haha~~ :D

    @ Merryn:
hahaha, we have two fridge at home, and so far only the upper door of one of it is occupied, so at least for few more years i still have a lot of space for the magnets~~ :D

    ReplyDelete
  51. @ bluedreamer27:
hmmmm, i did collect stamps when i was in elementary school but that hobby didn't last long, i think most probably i just follow the trend.. errr, not all those magnets were bought by me, they are contributions from everyone in the family, whoever goes somewhere will bring back one.. haha!! so that looks good on the fridge right??

    @ Bananazஇ:
yeah, i think it's getting more and more common now, as you can see from the souvenirs shops you can easy get one you like from the wide array of magnets.. guess it's the next most popular after keychain right?? oh, small and cute scissors?? hmmm, i wonder what's between the lines?? something cheeky?? hehe.. oh, sorry for making you staying up till so late, ooopsss, so early.. but that's fun doing scripteasing right?? :p

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  53. @ kyh:
haha, many people find that weird to send yourself a postcard, but i just think it's good to do that.. anyway, have not been doing that over my last few trips but instead just get some fridge magnets.. oh, i didn't contribute to all those magnets, infact everyone in the family contributed some lah, hehe~~ :D

    @ Hayley:
haha, yalor, i guess i already have too many keychains and i don't have chance to use them also lor..

    ReplyDelete
  54. @ Isaac Tan:
errr, to be exact not my personal collection but belongs to everyone in the family who has contributed to it lor.. :)

    @ ladyviral:
yeah, i really have lots of keychains from friends and colleague but i don't have so many keys that need to use keychain, hahaha!! so now they are all collected inside a box.. fridge magnet on the other hand is different, just get them stuck on the fridge and it's really a good view actually.. hmmm, haven't thot of that problem, but i guess we have quite good ventilation so won't be affected by cooking..

    ReplyDelete
haha, actually not all from me, it's from everyone in the family, and somemore friends also get me fridge magnet when they go travel.. haha!! how i wished i have been to that many places~~

    @ lina:
haha, do you think people will want to buy?? i guess people would prefer they buy that themselves when they go travel lor, more meaningful this way.. :p

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  67. SK, you know what? I read that sticking all these magnets to the fridge may not be so good for the food inside and may have an effect on our health. Not sure how far it's true but I've drastically reduced mine. You have a very nice collection of magnets though. Maybe you could set up a corner for them..

SK, you're an IT man, a question for you. Is it a no-no to place a magnet on or near a PC/laptop or any device that holds data/info? I've been told that data/info may get lost. Please shed some light here. Thanks in advance.

    ReplyDelete
  68. whoaa so many fridge magnets! ;D

  72. That means you have been to so many places in the world! You are such a traveler!

    ReplyDelete
  73. You should not stop traveling. Keep going so that you can blog about the places you've been to!

    ReplyDelete
  74. If I am like you going to so many places, I think my posts will all be backdated to 10 years haha!!!

    ReplyDelete
  75. You can't blame me for that since I like to write my travel posts in full details so that I can read them in future for the good memories! : )

    ReplyDelete
  76. I try to divide into small topics for each post otherwise one post will be far too long to read! Haha!!

    ReplyDelete
  77. What if you don't have enough fridge space to put all your magnets? Where will you put the remaining ones? Buy another fridge? LOL!!

    ReplyDelete
  78. I've never tried sending a postcard back to myself - maybe I should try that in future!

    ReplyDelete
  79. But then I normally don't look for post offices in a foreign country! Like you said, it's not very convenient.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Better just snap a photo of myself at that place - that's proof enough I have been there haha!

    ReplyDelete
  81. Actually, I do snap a photo of myself when I travel - it's just that most people won't know it cos I won't put those photos on my blog for obvious reason! : D

    ReplyDelete
  82. I kinda like fridge magnets a lot but they tend to be expensive as they are tourists' items. But luckily most of the time, there are cheaper versions if we know where to look for them.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Oh yes, me too prefer fridge magnets to key chains. You can display a fridge magnet nicely but not a key chain.

    ReplyDelete
  84. That reminds me, I must ask for a fridge magnet souvenir from someone who will be traveling soon haha! Thanks for this post! : D

    ReplyDelete
  85. Oh My Gawd! You got so many fridge magnets Thambee!... my heart skipping beats!

    ReplyDelete
  93. Recently I sold my Samsung fridge to my friend. You know what?

    ReplyDelete
  94. I removed my magnets but all the marks and stains of the fridge magnet shapes were visible after almost 10 years! haiks! cannot do anything no matter what detergent I used!

    ReplyDelete
  95. Now I worry for my new metal casing fridge. Dunno whether to place magnets there again.

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  99. @ HappySurfer:
hmmm, somebody also commented about magnets not good on the fridge as it might affect the food.. but i guess it won't cause any drastic harm, hopefully, haha.. anyway, those are not my own collection, it belongs to the whole family, whoever went somewhere will bring back one.. hmmm, as for placing magnets near your PC or gadgets, i think it will have some impact.. can't really explain but that's what i believe, at least it will affect the performance but won't really cause data lost.. :)

    @ Caroline Ng May Ling:
yeah, i post the postcard back to myself, so that i can have the postage stamp and also the date stamp on it.. it's a good proof to show that i was there, haha!! yeah, i now like fridge magnet a lot~~ :)

    ReplyDelete
  100. @ foongpc:
haha, those are not all my magnets but belongs to the whole family.. whenever anyone goes anywhere then they will bring back one magnet and put it on the fridge.. i am not so lucky to have been to so many places like you thought lah, haha!! yeah, i know your style, you have your own reason to post as many post as possible for each of your trip, haha, so how many places are still outstanding there?? of course taking photo is a must, that's the best proof to show you are there, haha!! but then sometimes you just want to bring back something most physical from the place you went, and that's what we call "souvenirs".. and i am pretty sure you are somebody who are having strong buying power on souvenirs, hahahaha!! hmmm, yeah, can't find post office all the time and it can be very inconvenient, so i don't really get postcards already.. errr, my magnets are all cheap ones lah, don't need expensive ones, just for decoration only.. ooopss, BTW, that's only half of the fridge with magnets, we actually have two fridge at home, a lot more space to use~~

    @ Twilight Man:
Arumugam, Thambee doesn't own all those magnet, just a portion of those are Thambee's contribution.. that collection belongs to Thambee's whole family lah, when somebody goes somewhere then will bring back a magnet to place it on the fridge lor, kekeke!! Thambee also wish to been to so many places like Arumugam thought lor.. oh, Arumugam you need to do some "exercise" for those magnets, try switching their spot on the fridge like once every week so that they don't just stay there forever and leave a mark.. wow, so now Arumugam is having a bigger fridge with steel casing?? orang kaya lah Arumugam, sure Letchumi is so happy with the new fridge because she can put more goat cheese inside!! oh, Silk Road, but Thambee wonder if they got fridge magnet there?? hehe.. so when is Arumugam going to Europe?? end of the year??
