read an article about graffiti on newspaper the other day, that article mentioned that our city council is realising more and more graffiti at public areas in the city, and claimed that those graffiti are kind of vandalism that bring bad image of the city's appearance.. but i totally disagree with that, i like those graffiti and admire how talented those people can be to get things up with just a can of spray paint.. i treat all these as pieces of artwork, and i see them as something beautiful instead..

the collage of pics above are graffiti taken while i was walking down a street in barcelona few months back, i was so impressed with the artwork and quickly took my camera to take snapshots of them.. i especially like that orange eye-popping habitant (or whatever you name it) at the bottom, cute isn't it?? hehe :p

[NOTE] and of course, i am not referring to those reproductive organs and contact numbers all over the toilet walls.. :p

  2. Most of the graffiti are great art work, but I hate vandalism on public areas/walls such as three letter words and some 'who loves who' marks left over by some lovers....

  6. for me, i think the drawing is nice. Better than the government who stick all their poster around for nothing

  7. I think it's all depends on how much does the country appreciates art. Perhaps it's not considered as "art" for our city council?

  9. Actually in KL, those big longkang geh walls, sometimes also got people paint there, they are really good. But what to do? When the gov says it will affect the "image" of Malaysia (like we do have very good one).

  10. They draw it quick, neat and very nice...

There's one I saw a picture of a Beggar with an empty mangkuk.... Few days later another drawer add on a kid donating money to him...

Then there's another one with Yasmin Ahmad...

Very potential to be great artist...

  11. I agree bro. Grafitti are awesome! I mean it is very hard to conjure up this masterpiece. I wanted to try it before! :p

  12. The government should build a big wall for them to go and draw until they're satisfied. It can be a tourist attraction.

  13. I hate the sticking of bills everywhere from light poles to whatever those people get their hands on. The local council should really catch and fine those culprits.

If happen to be at the Central Market LRT station, look across into the muddy river and along the riverbank (wall), you'll spot some creative graffitti. Not as impressive as the ones seen in other countries but they're quite eye catching. I saw them quite awhile ago. I suppose they must still be there.

  19. I'm sure some of us appreciate some great artworks. But graffiti also includes porn writings and drawings on walls, inside lifts and toilets. So i guess it is upto the intelligence of the authorities to be able to distinguish. Graffiti on buildings, even if great, is illegal too if done without the permission of the building owners.

Have a wonderful new week ya! ^_^

  20. i don't like them when they're all over the place and doesn't even look nice at all, especially the ones where you can read words like vagina in mandrin, if u get what i mean.

i think grafitti like those along the walls in the river where you can see from the pasar seni station, whatever that river is, which i think are pretty nice, shud be drawn on a proper wall of a building, and the graffiti shud fill up the entire wall, like that of a mural. with a patch here and there, i don't think it's nice at all.

haha, it really depends on the eyes of the beholder right?? i would say it's something very subjective, either you lurve it or you loath it.. the lines between two extremes are always very fine..

    Grass:
hahaha, those "who loves who" scribbles are still bearable.. i bet you must have seen those vagina and penis and contact numbers on the toilet walls?? aren't those just disgusting?? hahaha~~

    wenn:
yeah, i really love their creativity and artwork.. :)

  22. y:

    Danny:
yes i agree they are really talented!! what can just scribble what's coming out of their mind.. and i thot you are quite artistic too?? ooopss, hope my new banner didn't give you nightmares.. haha!! :p

    khengsiong:

  23. L²:
yeah i agree with you.. and i think it's a shame that the city council is trying to erase those artwork.. 影響市容 they claimed.. that is so saddening.. :(

    KY:
hmmm you are right, maybe 50 years later when others have something else, then our city council will start to accept things that are 50 years back?? so backward thinking, don't you think so?? hehe..

    summer:

    ReplyDelete
  24. C'est la vie:
yeah, if you noticed that stretch of walls by the river across Pasar Seni, you will be able to see all these masterpiece of the grafitti artist.. they are cool man!!

    Jerry:
yes that is why i really admire how well they can do that.. yes, the Pasar Seni stretch right, that is where i saw Yasmin Ahmad, and the beggar with a kid, is is there too?? let me go and have a look later.. haha :)

    Tekkaus:
hahaha, of course we are both talking about the same category of graffiti right?? not those toilet scribbles right?? hahaha.. so you tried to do that before?? how was it?? any success?? :p

    ReplyDelete
  25. Legolas:
actually if not mistaken there was once such event to gather all the graffiti artist to draw they art somewhere, but no idea where already.. anyway, as long as those graffiti not bringing any harmful message, i think it's quite ok..

    Mei Teng:
haha, you are right, the graffiti are much nicer than those sticky bills.. yeah, Central Market station, that's where the best graffiti artists have laid down their artwork i supposed?? i always enjoy watching them whenever i was there.. they are just cool.. but i remember they were once erased, but now they came back.. kudos!! :)

    uLi.
oh really?? but a bit not matching with the historical looking street yeah?? hahaha.. thanks, hope my new banner didn't give you nightmare.. :p

  26. ~dolly~:
haiz, those are really what the backward thinking people thiks lor.. to me, i think they look cool and it could well be a nice attraction actually..

    edward:

  27. Chris:

    Gratitude:
hahaha, i must make a disclaimer first.. i'm not referring to those vaginas and penis and contact number scribbled on the toilet walls ok?? hahaha.. you are right, it's still considered some kind of vandalism i supposed, so it really depend on how the authority view the whole thing.. you have a great week ahead too :)

    Medie007:
haha, of course we are talking about those artistic and those that brings positive messages.. not your vagina and penis scribbles on the toilet walls lah!! yeah, i guess many of us have noticed the stretch of graffiti by the river across pasar seni, they are just very cool to me..

  30. Bottomline, Malaysian graffiti artists have a long way to go vis-a-vis those of the west. What you've captured are really nice. See what I mean?

  31. I guess there are many types of graffiti. I like the creative and artistic ones.

  35. More countries should recgonize this as art. Because afterall it would actually make the dirty walls look good and eventually this graffiti people would do it for free! Well, if they get cocky means they decided to stop spraying the walls haha.

I once saw a graffiti at the shops near my place, it was an angel... it was really lovely! I thought it was really unique.

    Chin Weng

    HappySurfer:
you may be right, but i think what is lack of here is a good platform for them to advance.. just by chance what i've shown here is taken from barcelona, if you have been to the Pasar Seni station, you can actually see some good ones along the stretch by the river bank.. :)

  37. foongpc:
of course there are many types, it all depends on what the artist want to present right?? hmmm, so far i've not seen any doraemon around, so disappointing hor?? hehe.. hey, i am also the top commenters in your blog woh, what prize are you gonna give me?? hehe :p

    Wois:

    ladyviral:
well i think these graffiti art has been getting more recognised, instead of seeing them as scribbles and vandalism, they are now more being regarded as artwork, this is something exciting actually.. so you didn't take photo to show us how unique the one you saw near your house?? :p

  40. I still remembered when i was visiting Montreal decades ago... I met one graffiti artist whom invited by the city council to draw on the wall @ the Metro link station wall... It was so impress...

Once our lovely govt has finished all the 1Malaysia related campaign thingy like 1Malaysia Hostel, 1Malaysia blah blah blah... Maybe our graffiti artist will be invited to draw the 1Malaysia graffiti project in some walls downtown KL in the near future... :p

    TZ:
oh really?? decades ago the canadian already so forward thinking?? hmmmm, it's so long later now and yet our government still cannot totally accept this kind of art.. hmmmm, i remember last year there was a merdeka graffiti event organised by some government body, but have no idea where the thing is now..

you are welcome, good things should be shared amongst right?? :p

    KY:
hahaha!! so another reason for us to come out for a gathering huh?? kekeke :D

    csws:
hmmm, never heard of Banksy bor.. yeah, it's really something very subjective - it's either you love the artwork or you hate the scribble - there's just only a fine line in between.. :)

    ReplyDelete
  47. i appreciate the creative graffittis and maybe just give restrictions to those who vandalize with perv stuffs

    ReplyDelete
  48. Google Banksy la, he's now king of graffiti, and his is not scribble, it's stencil graffiti with hidden messages, often very ironic, good stuff!

    ReplyDelete
  49. Ayie:
hmmm, when you talk about vandalism it is just not easy to put a restrictions on right?? just hope they will slowly become artistic graffitis?? :p

    csws:

    LEon:
yeah, i read that.. and i love that sexy lips on the wall.. hahaha!! :)
