    4. Yes Chris, I know. I not yet comment finish mar. I would like to say I have yet to take my breakfast. SK's foodie post - by looking at the photos make me feel hungry. Indeed things are getting more expensive. Kena lah jimat cermat sedikit. If can prepare from home also good. If buy also must choose those place that give us the reasonable price. Nowadays consumers are getting wiser than before. It is time for all of us to compare and act smarter where and what to eat. Besides food, many things also need to consider before buying. Currency also is getting smaller.

  2. Yeah , food are getting more expensive nowadays, probably due to the currency devalued. Some they increase the price while some they reduce the portion or revisit their menu with new dishes but actually it's the same , just add a bit here and there and with price increases.

    1. I reckon, the portion is getting smaller. But those add on items are making us headache. Although mentioned add on items or maybe add side dishes and etc, it is actually add in the cost to us. But we should think ourself first whether we really need that. Even just add on items are valued by +RM2 or +RM3 looks cheap indeed you get another items? People is so tempting with it, after purchase, he or she also can't finish and need to da pao back or something... also is another extra cost for all of us.

    2. Usually I will go for a balance one , three dishes where 1 meat, 1 veggie and probably a tofu or egg. And I asked for lesser rice. With that I can reduce carbohydrates intake as well as as finished the meal.

  3. I remember when there's a Food Centre who just completed renovation, i went to makan, i manage to talk a while to the stall owner, he was telling me, after the renovation, the rental was increased and they have no choice, but to increase the price of the foods...

    1. Yeah, sometimes we can't put the blame on of all them. The foodcourt owner can be the culprit but they also needed to recover costs like refurbishing the area as well as adding stuffs like fans or air conds. Lots of factors involved unless we are talking about street hawkers. But then , they could be facing license cost increased.

  4. D. The other day, i order a kosong one, it's $1, with egg, $1.50, and the place is coffeeshop and not food court...

  5. Niamah! RM 6 for pan mee now??? Pui pui pui!!

And... who spent RM 19284.80 in a meal??! I did not read this thing in the news yet leh... or is it just some pluck from the sky figure?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Hahaha, I know. RM19,284.80 I think is a history cost. What if is the actual cost maybe RM19,284.80 is only the Wagyu beef only. Never mind, eat locally, our local beef is much cheaper and save some money before its rain.

      Delete
    2. Rm6 still ok la. As I mentioned before, in JB , all these already at rm6 or more few years ago and only hawkers at a rundown foodcourt. Maybe that place was near to Singapore , just a 15 mins drive from custom.

  6. Getting more and more expensive. Great topic early of the year. Once a while I will followed my mum to get some groceries from regular Chinese sundry shops in town. Towards end of year 2015. The Taukeh or the Taukeh soh keep telling us, better buy now or else next year (2016) will be a price increase for most of the dry ingredients. Are you kidding me? For those "Si Lai" and some consumers are easily threaten by their words. Some I heard from another side, keen to keep some stock of needed food as they heard of the price increase. Scary right? I'm pity for those household financial position is at the border line, whereby they did not spend so much on unnecessary items also need to pay higher price on food.

    1. Price increase really burden the consumer as we are the last stage to suffer all the cost!

    2. Every year, hawker food and other food chains always increase their price by 50sen or RM1 as you mentioned. Sad to say, the price is fix there and never came down. Hahaha.

      Delete
    3. That bowl of pan mee looks so ho liao. Got many liu inside. Especially the crunchy anchovies and minced meat, yumz. If it is to cost RM5.50 to RM6.00, here at Taiping still able to add on an item to the pan mee - poached egg.

    4. Hahaha... I also encountered that. Whenever I bought milk powders for my kids, the shop will always tell us there will be price increased in the new year and asked us to get more. The product will undergo upgrade or change the logo .. Etc.

  7. The annoying thing is, not only the price got increased, the size somehow got decreased.

    Really take advantage.

    1. Yes or sometimes no price increases by smaller portions. I encountered that before. Or they changed the menu and increased price but it's still the same food, just repaint the menu only ... Lol

  8. Chap Fan chosen by yours is the most standard one. Good that you spend your money wisely. Feel the pain when the chap fan cost you more than that. Very rare now - Chap Fan stall still provide complementary drinks and soup. Taiping only got one chap fan stall provided that only. Well, come to the positive side of it. We cannot take so many good/luxury food all the time. So once a while eat something lighter, as long as fill up and satisfied our tummy from hunger will do. Nevertheless, eat too much during lunch time, makes us feel sleep towards the working day. Eat it right!

    1. Price increase, but the size of chicken reduce. Clever to choose long beans too, it is cheap and tasty. The soup is totally a clear soup. Teh Cina Ais is far more better than just sky juice. No wonder, you all "kap fan" in the office to cook from previous post.

    2. Oh ya, what about Happy Meal for lunch? cost more that than wor? how? This can be excuse sometimes right? because of the goodie toys....kekeke

    3. That day Yannie just posted how much calories in a piece of Roti Canai. I don't dare to take so much lor. Once a while still ok. But not always. Is cheap but not so healthy to take it every morning. Frankly speaking I like Roti Canai too.

    4. My father used to tell us, their olden days should be their golden days of memories - A few cents can buy a bowl of nice noodle already. Even during my schooling time, around the 1988, I still manage to get 50cents of nasi lemak from canteen. Damn delicious. Luckily, around Kamunting, Taiping area I still manage to get RM1 delicious nasi lemak. One day (on my way to work)I da pao breakfast for me and a few colleagues in the office. One of my friend likes to eat this stall kerang sambal. So the normal nasi lemak cost me RM1 each and that nasi lemak biasa + kerang costs RM2.50. All prices are so various, sometimes we really don't know how they judge the price. Once there was a news mentioned "kerang"/claims are almost vanish because of the sea water solution, maybe that is why is expensive nowadays. So next time, if is expensive better to opt not to eat and just take nasi lemak biasa will do.

    5. This few weeks was busy fetching my mum and my MIL to buy CNY stuffs around the town area. As usual, I will fetch them to the dried seafood and some sells tonic soup shop - "hoi sin pou". Dried flower mushroom increase RM20/kg. Usually CNY we will prepare better food for the family during the reunion dinner and so on. Usual normal regular days, we seldom eat these. Once a while. These are usually "must" have for them during CNY. Since it is expensive, we just buy a bit less. Chinese sausage also increase RM20/Kg. Very hard for my mum and MIL not buy some. I did told my mom, these kind of food better don't eat so much. My mum buy some and my MIL opt not to buy. hahaha. Saves money and good also not to eat so much of such food. Morever, the town seems silent, not many coming out to buy things. Totally not happening like previous years back. Everyone is cutting down spending and save a little bit more for rainy days.

    1. Even my SG friends and colleagues complaint about certain places in KL that charged exorbitantly high like pavilion. They were saying how local folks survive by paying so much on food while the rm depreciates. I do agreed with them , it's tough living in kl with everything increases except the snail increment of salary.

  10. hmmm... I was looking at Picture A and though it's just a background or the start of you pictures, somehow it said something about your post. It seems you are painting the post to be very gloomy and thus add on a grey-white background, like mourning. Or I am thinking too much ...lol ..

    ReplyDelete
  11. Picture B - I was about to comment on your food but remember what you said earlier which is to illustrate the normal daily food we had. Luckily, there's no food hike in SG at the start of the new year though kopi price already increased to an additional 10 cents more for almost 1 year.

I think it's common the hawkers take advantage of the new year to hike up the food price citing CNY coming as well as cost of local ingredient went up. But all never went down... Well, sometimes it's hard to see where's the problem lies. whether is it genuinely due to rising cost of ingredients or taking advantage of the situation or just follow what others doing. They increased, I increased lor ..

I agreed with you it's tough for the commoner to get on with life's necessities with all these food increased. Salary no increased but food and goods went up. And, the falling valued of the RM add more misery to it. That means imported goods are more expensive!

  12. Picture C - I thought you are cooking small and simple meals in your pantry? Maybe you should continue to do that in order to save as well as eat healthily. The outside food also not healthy. But if no choice, then ate economically.I think 1 meat and 2 veggies are ok la... but would it be cheaper ? I guess it depends on places to places. Some charged more for portions of meat and some based on the no. of dishes.

    1. Sometimes, will easily get bored if always cook in the office pantry. Once a while ok lar. What if got projects and datelines, everyone is busy to prepare, then rather eat outside. Saves time as well too. If I go "Chap Fan" stall, I will take smaller portion of rice, more veggie and a protein either meat or fish. I seldom will take fish - expensive too.

  13. Picture D - hahaha...Of course you can have roti canai but not everyday la. After all, it's just flour and curry, you might as well drink a cup of milo and ate a few pieces of bread with ham.

  15. Today we are talking about the price of food. Eh, I betul-betul agree with you that eating out (not talking about restaurants) is getting very expensive. 2. B : Eating at coffee shop pun not cheap liao these days. Maybe depends on which area. There are still places that charge reasonable prices. I noticed at my area, prices have increased quite a bit. Now a packet of fried meehoon is RM7.00. Better fry my own meehoon lah.

    3. C : Just rice and one meat and one vege is already RM4.50. I usually have one meat and 2 vege and kena RM7. Sometimes if I am very hungry, I take a bit more and I can hit RM9.

    4. D : This is the cheapest. But I don't eat roti canai even though I love it. Too much carbs lah this one. But it is OK for you since you are active and go to the gym. If this auntie eat roti canai everyday, she will kembang like an elephant.

  18. Inflation! Inflation! Inflation! Global inflation has caught up in our country. Time for us to wake up and learn to surivive the inevitable nonsense of the ruling parties who are killing our pockets and survival lifestyles. It taught me to appreciate that we are not homeless and war refugees like the millions affected in Syria and Middle East. They are are in worst shoes. So we just need to change our spending, eating, lifestyle and purchasing power. I have started going to Daiso more often!!

What is this white cumpled paper of Thambee's Art? So avant garde looking and should stain with some chilly sauce or cheesy mutton gravy and sprinkle some paneer to make it look like a master piece painting. Anyway, white is simplicity and resembles snow in Sapporo.

We should save money and environment by using our containers to tabao the food home or office to eat. No need to cut trees and waste paper!

Honestly, I eat lunch at coffee shops daily but some days I would be so stingy to keep my food and drinks below RM5! Some crazy days I could eat RM50 per head at fancy restaurants. Shaking my head now. I better go slow, save more money effectively and go travels instead. Life is so short and time flies so fast. We often get carried away by life's nonsense and meaningless matters until too late, when our health becomes affected and our graves are just waiting to collect us. Argh!!

How to survive at RM41.60 a month? They used expired calculators or pressed wrong buttons with their fat fingers! I was thinking just eat plain rice whole month with just gravy. Maybe can lah. They must have tried it themselves on RM41.60 survival and became morons today due to lack of nutrients and supplements in their daily food intake. Remember my slogan, morons and bigots are born every minute on earth!

Eating chap fan has always been my old habits since I started working many thousand moons ago. Not trying to save money, but the choice of varied dishes are always appetizing and appealing any fussy taste buds. It has become part of our culture and lifestyle to partake take. In long run, we do save money!

Somedays when I had no appetite, I would just scoop one pumpkin dish and smear some curry gravy over my rice until flooded. Plus one hot steaming tea, the whole total was RM3.00.

Whenever I eat roti kosong or roti tisu, I must think of my good ol days having the tarek session and slowly much the roti tisu with my Thambee! Hey, we must do that again someday dei before you forget Anay.

I have been thinking about the rumoured price of that diamond grade wagyu beef!! I wonder if that is true or fake news as our political circus are becoming international jokes these days. Whether is true or not, that lady who ate that sure looks like Hermes Wagyu Cow herself from her the looks of side angles! If the whole bill was true, I guess they flew the cow alive from Japan to slaughter in their kitchen, hence the high prices and air freight included to bring some logic sense. Otherwise just buying the parts locally for cooking would be way cheaper. Just my 2 cents!

    4. In fact, for Yannie, Yannie eats in the canteen inside the factory. We have RM3 subsidy, so most of the time, I don’t pay extra for my meal, unless I need to buy some cut fruit. Morning, Yannie eats oats only, in the evening, Yannie eats MIL’s home cook food. So RM19284.80 can last for many meals for Yannie alone. These two fellas are really bad.

How dare you question our old and wise minister...he said a family can survive an entire month on RM41.60 a month means can la....now they also giving the dunno what BRim this and that...and also they very generous oh....Family with income less than dunno RM1k or was it RM2k will get 20kg of rice per month leh.... so 20kg of rice is enough la for a month...some more people should plant kangkung at home. Can jimat a lot leh. everyday eat kangkung with rice and soya sauce enough la. eat too much meat no good. will have health issue you know.

If do not want to pay the extra 50 sen or RM1 then do not go to those restaurant la. Just like road users who are unwilling to pay higher toll then wake up earlier and use those back roads with potholes la.

else hor...you can also buy the noodles from hyper market RM1.50 a packet and go home and sendiri fry lo. masak at home like our esteemed minister who fry rice with the spray racun serangga next to the stove before he go for a meeting. #BeLikeBill.

I beg to differ....i like roti planta more than plain roti canai. so each time order i would order roti planta. yes more expensive at RM1.80 to RM2 but then am a small eater. 1 piece will be enough for me.

eh your photo of roti canai ah.... you can actually buy the Kawan Brand of roti Paratha and cook in the office leh when you hungry. If put in aluminium foil sumbat into your mini toaster oven can makan also leh. That is if you lazy to go out of the office to cari makan la.

laugh die me with the wagyu diamond grade steak. so far i have tasted once only wagyu steak. Wasted on me as i cannot really differentiate the tae between that and the normal one. Taste a bit softer la...not so chewy. The rest i dunno lo.

If anyone wanna belanja me 2kg of diamond grade wagyu steak that worth RM19,284.80 steak..i rather they give me the cash lor or at least donate it to old folks home...my friend;s old folks home is still looking for donation. Don't worry....after receiving the donation, any extra he will keep for future old folks home use. He will not return the amount minus GST punya to the donor . So anyone will and be so kind, please donate money to SP Old Folks Home Ya....still need RM4k for the roof.... thank you thank you.

everyone in the higher up say economy is good this and that but how come the price o things keep increasing and our income somehow stagnant? why? Tell me why? Is it we are not hard working enough? have to have #2kerja to #TambahPendapatan like what our grand parents used to do?

And the most angry part is, the poor people like us will get poorer, and the rich people like Hippo will get richer!! Yerr, 想到都讨厌! How can 'they' do this to us!!

Sometimes, cannot blame the hawker also la, cause not what they choose, they are also victim... But of course must be reasonable with the price changes la! So here I'm so agree with you, same as my office mamak there, the previous restaurant was quite cheap but until the landlord want to increase the rent so they've no choice to move out then move in this restaurant, she makes things like freaking expensive, don't even talk about economy rice, actually those are not so economy at all lo.
