  1. Oh... This movie ! A real life tale about a group of miners trapped underground for 48 hours or something till they were rescued. I almost a watched it last time but ended up with James Bond spectre ... Hahahaha...
I heard it's an inspiring and touching movie ! A story about the victorious and courageous lives who stranded there!

    1. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2010_Copiap%C3%B3_mining_accident This was the actual event as reported in wiki. I also read it in the news then and it was really a celebration of courage, bravery and strong endurance of the human spirit.

I mat get the DVD later but then, sometimes I realised these kind of movies can be too much for me. Not that I will cry but it will be a heavy movie as well as it's a long movie too! I still prefer those action-packed ones..hahaha..

    2. Yup! You got it right about this real life's true story of the miners being trapped beneath. It was very scary and heartbreaking experience for all. I think I watched it in a documentary over Astro but now they made into movies! So cleber lah human beings to make money outta people's disasters and tragedies.

I might go to watch it this weekend if time permits. I also wanna watch the James Bond movie first. That one always not heartbreaking but exciting with stylish happy endings!!

  2. The first one I want to watch, but yet to watch. I guess it should be very nice like you said =]

  3. Second one I don't know so can't comment, but usually for Thai movie, I always prefer the ghost movie, hehe!!

  4. Oh man, it has been ages that I haven't walk into the cinema leh. Ip Man is nice from what I heard from.

    1. SK, busy Bee here very busy during end of the month as I told you before. And I was lucky to catch up a movie during the school holiday(almost the last week of weekend). Something to show off hor? Don't say didn't watch any movie throughout the year 2015. We watch Alvin and the chipmunks - The Road Chip. Not bad - family - comedy movie for 4 of us.

    2. I think this Angeline's life is so busy at home and work until no spare time to watch movies. The reason I watch movies often because they are the best to reduce stress in our mind. The 1.5 hours inside the cinema will shift our mind's focus away from our problems, if we do have! Then the happy comedy entertainment or laughter juices will be injected into our body's systems via our eyes, ears and brains. That is good therapy for relaxation in a cheap way.

    3. Come back to your movie review:
A - The 33. I have no idea about this movie. I seldom follow the latest release movie from cinema. Taiping don't have many cinemas too. Now the latest one is TGV. This new TGV I only been there once - for Alvin and Chipmunks movie. The 33 is a real life story mentioning this 33 miners are trap underground for 69 days. I think I will search this movie from Internet. I also wanted to know how they survive within that 69 days.

    4. Coming to another movie
B - Thai movie also you watch in the cinema eh? You are very supportive. And you actually like to watch Thai love comedy movie. By the way you understand or you see the substitle - English and Chinese and even BM too. SInce you've been to Bangkok for so many times...I think your understanding towards the movie is quite good enough. Anyway is a love and comedy movie - this movie is worth and enjoying to watch too with a bunch of friends, I believe.

    5. For the third movie
C - I reckon what you mentioned about HK movie. Why ar? Even the Astro On demand HK movies were like lack of something. Not really that good. But luckily you are smart enough to choose Ip Man. Isn't it a free redemption from credit card points or you're force to go see with the rest?...hahaha. Just my thought.

      Delete
    6. Hahaha...now only I notice TM is replying my comments. I guess my best therapy is baking.

  5. I like disaster movies and comedy ones too. Love the crisis in the storyline of those beyond creativeness stories. Comedies ones really keep us laughing and thus stress free.

  6. IP man, actually I found it quite disappointed, maybe I've give too high expectation on that. As I heard from the radio, the producer said why they stop for so long then only came out the third one is because they don't want to crash with those the market one, the late old ip man movie played by Anthony Wong (I found this is okay, part of the reason because q_gil is inside the movie, hehe!) Then the second one is the young version and it's a drama played by Kevin Cheng (this is also not so bad, but not very good actually) Even so they came out this movie after two years, it doesn't have much achievements...add in Mike Tyson is one, but too bad the fighting scene is too short >.<

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. You mean this Part 3 sequel is not so good to your expectations? I better go hear the reviews from the public forum before I decide to watch. I do not want to waste my precious time inside the cinema.

  7. Frankly , some Thai movies are great especially the horror ones. I won't go to the cinema to watch a Thai movie but probably get a Dvd if there's a good review about it. The horror ones like the the shuttler, swimmers , nang nak and etc are great movies and it can be scary too! As for comedies , most of their movies always include sexual theme like homosexuals and transgenders. One notable one is the volleyball team which are full of transverites. It's funny anyway.
Not sure about this one as I didn't watch it but it's nice to go for a laugh !

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yeah!!! That volleyball team movie called "Iron ladies" was the most craziest Thai comedy I ever watched in my life. I agree with you that their movies like to include the LGBT because they are realistic that these are the daily culture that revolves around the Thai nation today. By doing that, they are not biased and earned support from all levels of public audience.

  8. Oh .. I wanted to watch ip man 3 , in Cantonese ! You know , in SG, it's dubbed in mandarin. I heard there's a lot of good reviews about this movie and it was always full house when I was at the cinema two weeks ago for Star Wars. Did you watch Star Wars btw ? Coming back to ip man 3, almost the day's schedule were all full when I was there on a Saturday. Probably mike Tyson is a crowd puller too ! Hahah...

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I know right, all HK is in Mandarin...I don't know that before that. Remember the last time I found out is when I watch Cold War in Singapore, I watched it with my friend (not watch alone this time) she didn't even tell me it's gonna be in Mandarin before the movie st11arts...then I found it myself when the movie start =.=

      Delete
    2. Yeah lor...once dubbed, some of the jokes will be removed as certain jokes cannot be translated. I prefer the original, same as my SG friends too.

      Delete
    3. But can understand?? Or read the subtitle?

  9. Oh ... I will pro abs avoid those CNY movies ! It's just there for the sake of making money besides giving everyone some cheers and good mood. I used to watch it during CNY when I was young as then , there was nothing much to do on CNY first to third day. All the shopping malls are closed thus, watching a movie seems the best thing to do.
These movies are produced in a short duration and the actors just anyhow acted. It's totally crap. Lol

    ReplyDelete
  10. For the CNY year maybe I will just watch the Chow Yun fat one, because I like Chow Yun fat but the Aaron Kwok one hmmm....for me Dicky Cheung is the best, besides that, I would choose to give a pass...Then the local one, my mom already insist to say she doesn't want to watch the one kept on playing in the astro advertisement that one, that one......that's too hard sell even though that's really good (maybe)

    ReplyDelete
  11. Like what Chris mention, i used to go watch those CNY movies, but find that those movies, err.... So now i don't go watch those movies...

    ReplyDelete
  12. Disaster movies, we like, i mean JAMY likes to watch disaster films. Most of the disaster films, we won't give it a miss. But then, I didn't watch The 33. How come I miss this eh! Recently, I just watched The Wave, a disaster movie too, but it wasn't that good actually. I could't give it a good rate.

Wah! SK was tearing at the end of the movie eh! So sentimental one. Yannie would cry too if the movie touched my heart.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yannie watched Toy Story 3 also cried, crazy right?

Yannie didn't watch Thai Love Comedy movie, but I watched Taiwanese Love Comedy movie "我的少女时代". In fact, I enjoyed most of the love comedy movies, especially those which have good looking actors and actress one.

      Delete
    2. This IP Man 3 is not Yannie's type of movie, but it is Jin Jin's type of movie, so no JAMY got to watch this movie too. You are right that only movie which is longer than 120 minutes worth buying tickets. I think the same too, but now most of the cinemas have promotion on certain days. One ticket is only RM9. So, we would go on the promotion day to watch movies which are less than 120 minutes.

      Delete
    3. Talking about Chinese New Year movies, there are one or two in my mind that I would watch only.

But then, this IP Man 3 is not bad, the story line is very meaningful. It taught us to value the person we love. Ip Man lost his wife at the of the movie.

      Delete
    4. SK, didn't you watch Star War The Force Awakens? I gave this kind of movie a miss. Jin Jin took April and May to watch during school holiday when I was at work. I couldn't enjoy movies which have too much computer effect. I would feel dizzy and nausea watching the object flying here and there, old auntie already la!

      Delete
  13. I was told 'Ip Man 3' is one to watch but 'Star Wars' is so-so only.

    Good morning..

    ReplyDelete
  14. I am fine with nonsense CNY movies actually. At least I know the movie is just to make you laugh without much substance in it. They set out to do that and did a good job at that.

What I am not fine is those HK movies that want to be a bit of everything but failed in all aspect. Try to be deep but end up confusing, try to be funny but end up with lame jokes, etc... those 唔三唔四 两头唔到岸 HK movies, no thanks.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. If we have nothing to do, we will go for HKG CNY movie for the sake of a good laugh. That's all.

      Delete
    2. No wonder Thambee ada kelas and shun the HKG movies as they are too silly sometimes. Just for laughs and no harms, why not?? Laughter Is The Best Medicine.

      Delete
  15. Disaster movies showcased human resilience and how we rise above our limitations, despite the hardship.

    Very inspiring, right?

    And thought-provoking too.

Plus they serve as a reminder to us about our life here on Earth, IMHO.

  16. I've never watched Thai Movies that are not horror-flicks!

Must try and watch different genres lah, one day. ;)

    ReplyDelete

    1. Yeah! I used to watch Thai horror movie. It would scare the shit out of me and make me having numerous nightmares.

      Delete
    2. Thai horror movies are almost the same reruns and duplicates. If you live in Thailand, you will be surprised that they air horror movies on TV everyday. They love ghosts, kong thau, scandals and anything spicy out of norms to watch! Wakakakaka

      Delete
  17. I use to watch all these silly for CNY movies just for a good laugh.

    No time lah now. Hihihi

    1. I find it amusing that most of the film directors would often target Christmas, CNY or other festive to release their movies for those holiday seasons. They would not want to air after the festive seasons.

  18. I haven't been to the cinema for a very long time. I used to enjoy going when I was much younger. It was like very exciting and something to look forwards to but these days, aiyah, I prefer to park myself on the couch in front of the TV (or computer).

    1. A : Aiyo, I didn't know about this movie. That is how out of touch I am. Talking about disaster movies, I aslo enjoy them for the inspiration and to learn that the human spirit can be very strong in the face of adversity.

      Delete
    2. B : You like romantic comedies...hmmmm....I used to watch those too but only movies in English. I like comedies but not those slapstick type.

      Delete
    3. B : As far as Thai movies are concerned, I have watched their horror movies and I was quite impressed. I watch Shutter and a few others. They were quite scary. There was one movie that had many stories in it, I can't remember the name. There was one story which had comedy elements in it and I was very entertained. Scared and laughing at the same time hah..hah...

      Delete
    4. C : It was only later in life that I started watching HK/Chinese movies. Of course lah I had to rely on the subtitles to understand what is going on.

      Delete
    5. C : I watch the first 2 Ip Man movies and I enjoyed them a lot. The fighting scenes were quite exciting and well choreographed. Don't know if I will have a chance to watch this 3rd instalment.

      Delete
    6. C : Those silly/nonsense movies sort of gave me a wrong impression of HK movies last time. I found it irritating and I never watch those at all.

  19. MOVIE A - Fulamak! I didn't know this Thambee loves to take joy in other people's misfortune. Adoi. I should send you to live in Syria today and feel the real tension & terror in real life dramas. I won't say that I enjoy looking at other people's misfortunes by watching these type of action packed disaster movies but rather to learn how it looks & feels like when such disasters happened. I know I have watched countless of them but I still prefer those modern comedies or action packed James Bond types. If there is sob story movies, I would avoid at all costs because I might cry buckets of tears onto the floor. Their poor workers will have to work overtime to mop the cinema floors dry! Muahahahahahahaha

    ReplyDelete
  20. Of the three movies, I only heard of IP Man... at least you are still a frequent movie goer.. I have not been to the movies for years.. I think my last movie was Mamma Mia.. as far as I can remember...

    1. You barely have time to rest at home and go for movies as you are always doing road-shows to enjoy & eat yummiest food everywhere!!! If not eating, you would be flying off to somewhere faraway places for your vacations. We only have movies to watch cheaply and can travel to those places in the cinema. Wakakakaka

Mamma Mia was screened so long ago. All the cinemas will shut down if the movie goers are like you. LOL

      Delete
  21. MOVIE B: I think I have to be frank that I have almost given up watching Thai movies as you need to understand their language to know my reasons. Sometimes I dozed off in the cinema watching their movies. Wakakakaka
It is rare that we could find fabulous no nonsense movies from them. The silliest and craziest Thai comedy ever in their history was the IRON LADIES Part One. Oh Gawd, I laughed till my tears came out and fell off from the chair. The Ah Kuas were crazy and took lead in that movie. It was funny to me as they resembled many of my own transgender friends in Penang. Why on earth do they all have to behave and speak the same way? It was damn hilarious.

    ReplyDelete
  22. MOVIE C: I must watch this movie because I love anything to do with fighting, martial arts, boxing and even sumo wrestling. My wife would follow along for this IP Man because he is her idol. Before I met my wife, I did not even know this actor exists!

BTW I have been wondering for years why this smart and brilliantly Chinese educated with MBA's SK Thambee does not have the slightest cravings for HKG or China movies. You are very weird to me especially when you love to watch Tamil and Hindi movies instead. Yengga Poreng Ngeh!!! I am a great fan for Chinese movies these days esp the China productions as they have bigger budgets and wider filming locations! Even the famed Tsui Hark has been there to help boost their CG in the movies. Way to go!

Maybe I am weird as I am crazy over China and the movies while my wife is crazy over Japan and their TV drama series which she watches without fail everyday. Moshi! Moshi!

    1. Movie C is Jin Jin's favorite, he likes Donnie Yen more than Tony Leong. He always told me Donnie Yen should get best actor and not Tony Leong. He said Donnie Yen is fighting so hard and never won any best actor awards, Tony Leong only moving his butt and got the best actor awards many times. Hahahaha! What a silly comment of him!

      Delete
    2. He took us all to IP Man 3 on new year eve. After watching the movie, he said "Very good right?" . Crazy fan of Donnie Yen.

      Delete
    3. I also liked Donnie Yen after seeing how my wife adored him. Later years, I got mixed up with Donnie Yen and Daniel Wu as they have some resemblance but actings are worlds apart. I know why Donnie Yen didn't win awards although he fought a lot!! His story line was not moving and his face was often expressionless to convince the judges. You know this Tony Leong is clever to play with his body language, smiles, eye brows and played all the emo movies. That's where he collected more brownie points! Remember that Ang Lee's erotic movie "Lust, Caution" which he won the Best Asian Actor award!!!

      Delete
    4. Of course i remember that "Lust and Caution" that was directed by Ang Lee. This is the movie that Tony has played with body language the most, especially on beds, i think it is about 7 scenes on beds. That 7 scenes won him so many prizes in many movie awards in Asia. Kesien Donnie needed to fight so hard and won nothing from IP Man

  23. I watched IP Man 1 and IP Man 2 but not 3, because the storyline is more or less the same

    5. Now I don't watch horror movies cos everytime after the movie, I will imagine this imagine that and scare my own self until cannot sleep, but I remembered I watched The Ring (Sadako), it was one of the best horror movies I find

      Delete
    6. Wakakakaka.... I remember that "Ring" movie (Sadako). Their production was so cheap but they knew how to scare the audience like hell and gave me nightmares too! They were original and later movies from Thailand also copy cat them.

  25. Sorry TM I'm the bored type of person.I prefer to get a DVD back at home. Watch movie among 4 of us in the room. Our room got one locker for snacks and cup noodle too. Very surprise right. Usually people don't do that unless the room is rented one. Those snacks usually are biscuits and potato chips. I have a 3.5L water heater in my room too. Sorry ya this mummy very lazy to go downstairs to take. Since the kids go to school. We seldom practice to eat n watch movie in the room already. I fix their sleeping time. Must be strict a bit. No more at my room watching late night movie. Hahaha.

    1. Mentioning about Thai movie. I've watch a few Thai movies too. Majority the storyline surely involves with spirits, horror, ghost, sexuality and etc. There are a few funny scene that make us laugh. Nevertheless, feel touching and cry at the same time. Remember the movie Rang Nak? The rest I can remember were Ong Bak and a few ancients Thai movies.. I can't remember the movie names. Hubby likes to watch.. so I just follow.

    2. Comes to HK movie. We will only watch those movies are worth the value of cinema tickets. To be truth paying a ticket of Rm14 to Rm16 only watch about 90mins (only) movie. Mana worth wor? Don't mentioned during CNY, everyone wanna watch for fun then is ok la. Not always. But I'm very keen to watch that Monkey King @Aaron Kwok. That Chow Yun Fatt - gambling movie also another one in my list. At least the storyline I can understand. Exclude those CNY movie which is good to laugh but "mou lei tao".

      Delete
    3. Compare to Thai, Indian and even Hindu movies all sure screening more than 2 hrs. That Star Wars movie also quite long. I didn't watch too. Scared I felt asleep inside the cinema.

    4. Oh, my son told me about the new 5th wave movie is screening soon. I wonder how good was I that. But it is too near CNY, many preparation need to do before CNY. I told my son, wait for DVD to release. Tsk Tsk Tsk.

    6. Really? The movie must be good lor. Pretty actress some more. So far movies seen by SK also worth to see la. Especially The 33 movie. Maybe will get DVD for that movie. Maybe will get Ip Man movie DVD too. Going to cinema, I'm just like my hubby. Really good movies we will consider to go cinema to watch. Once a while we will bring our kids to watch their animation movie. My son now knows what movie is good or not. Because Youtube got trailer to watch. Once a while I will ajak a few of his friends to watch together.

    7. During Ip Man release week. I was busy with my work. Very lucky to have my PIL to bring my son with them. Except Hebe. 27. I've not watched all of the above. I don't like watching Chinese movies in the cinemas. Actually I don't like watching movies in any other languages except English in the cinemas. I definitely wont watch our local film on cinema coz by the time Hari Raya comes, it will be aired on TV dy!

  30. Hmm, I din't heard about the first movie, but from your review, seems like very interesting. Perhaps can ask my hubby to download, hehe. He also likes disaster movies, but sometimes depends on what kinda storyline also la, some ho very fake one, hehe.
I agree, this type of movie can be very inspiring and touching, especially those based on real event one.

Thai movie, I have no idea at all, haha! Don't even know what's the title, cause from your photo all are written in Thai. But Thai advertisements always never fail to make me smile/touched.

The last one, haha how come you din't watch leh? Very famous wo! Hehehe! But I can tell you, the storyline is more or less the same like previous installments la! Just the actors/actresses change only, this time got international superstar come wrestler so add a bit more 绰头 to the whole movie. The rest all the same, shows how great Ip Man kung fu is. Personally I think it's ok la, better than second installment.

  35. Hello again sk

Talking about movies ah? Ahahaha...me sldom go for movies asyou know already.

I have no idea what this The 33 movie is about.

From your summaryor paragraph. . It seems like an amagedon type of movie wor...end of day type of movie.

Wah i do not thimk they are people who like to watch these end of the world type of movies just to enjoy to see other people's misfortune or bad luck la.

Mostly people want to feel the thrill of the situation kot. There are people like me who wanted to "experience " the thrill but at a safe distance, iknow i can always "save" myself by clicking the off buton or close the book.

Yes... me too lke to see the ending where the brave wins but nowadays movies and books very bad...they wil kil off one of the characthers that people love the most. Like in the Hunger Games series....Katniss volunteer herskf just to save her sister...but in the end...... haiz......sobs osb..yea,.. you are not alone la....me alo cry when watching movie

These type kf moies i lke labut i hate those crying non stop type. When i was younger i can watch those show like xing xing jer wo xin OR Ku Xin Lian... but now....no thanks... there are just to much heartache in this world without adding more.

    I preferred comedy or thriler.

    1. I agree with you. The thai show very lively and not "kaku"or fake looking as some oghef show.

I love comedy better than others as we can throw logic out of the window. Just laugh our hearts out. Lol

    2. Eh this thai show have dubbings or english /chinese subtitles?

Otherwise how to understand leh. But then got some show even with dubbings or subtitkes also laugh die you coz the meaning are totally out.

Thai ghost movie are very scary leh.....i watch3 of such movies. Wah...had nightmares for a long time after that. Darr not watch ghost movies. Mat salleh onya ghost movies ok la but if asian ones are very scary. Probably coz when we are young we heard of those ghostly encounters.

What? You have not watched IP Man? How cannnnnnnnnn? Everyone were raving aboug it leh....some shop owner also named their shop after the IP Man show leh for example a massage shop in subang jaya called IP massage...lol...entah coincidence or not la.

Hahaha...jangan marah ya coz i also have not watched IP man 1 and IP man 2 leh. Ya ya.. i made a big huha up there but then sendiri tak tengok. Jangan marah ya.

Can really recall when i stopped going forbthe chnese newbyear shows lo....i think it was back in the 1990s

Backbthen every year sure watch the chinese new yeaf show in the cinema. Back then stephen chow, jacky chan and lydia sum sure every year will come out with a chinese new year show punya. I love those show. Stephen chow shows made me laugh like mad while jackie chan show very exciting. Like james bond like that.

Nowadays i don't watch anymore. Not sure what 90mins thingy and 120 minutes thingy that you are talking about coz i have not gone for a hong kong chinese movies for a long time.

Yes, if 90 minutes only i would feel short changed. Like the butt nog even hog on the seag, shows ends already. Now ticket price not cheap leh. No wonder people start supporting pirate version instead.

Hey, are the movie tickets in hong kong as pricey as in malaysia? Or is it cheaper there?

I feel nowadays...there are not many directors with caliber in the industry. Or maybe am just katak bawah tempurung la.

  38. Not only hong kong movie lack of storyline. I thin some western show also same. I watched a few ...but so so only. Like the recent starwars. Ghe storyline seems to be recycle from the old starwars movie A New Hope. Only that the male and female roles were reversed .
