Do You (BIG) Breakfast??
My Big Breakfast: Oats, Fruits & Crackers
are you a breakfast person?? i know some people who don't eat breakfast, but i am (happy that i am) not one of them.. i must eat breakfast, BIG BREAKFAST to be exact.. i always believe we should eat breakfast like a king to kick start our day, and that a nice breakfast definitely makes my day.. though i could not afford (due to time, financial and health reasons) to have my favorite continental breakfast buffet everyday like those we have in 5-star hotels - you know, those bacons, ham, sausages, toasts, eggs, grilled veggie, sauteed mushrooms, hash browns, muesli, yoghurt, juice, fruits, cheese etc (slurps!!), a variety of simple things combined together could be great too!! so on that one day i didn't know what to have for breakfast, i searched for what i had in the pantry and fridge in the office, and made myself these.. plain oats with raisins, pomelo, wheat crackers with cheese and dried fruits.. nothing fancy but it was satisfying, happiness often comes from very basic and simple things.. :)
this "simple" post is written for today because i received feedback saying that my posts are often too "brain-juice consuming", haha!! have a great weekend~~ :D

Err.. about the "brain-juice-consuming", I think it only affects those that want to fight for top commenter lah, have to figure out how to write relevant comments to each post. For people like me, I feel your usual posts are okay ah... :P

    1. RealGunnes, you eat so little food and so light at your dinner. You are very health conscious person as well. Many guys love feasting on big dinner after a tiring workday.

    2. Seeing is believing. I think RG eats heavy lunch and tea with little or no space for a heavy dinner. He probably eats snack & supper but never broadcasted his late meals for fear that his dotting mama in KL would read the blog and scream!!

    3. Heavy lunch, yes occasionally. I hardly have tea time lah, that privilege is not reserved for engineers usually. Supper, I'm not too sure. I might have sleepwalked and sleep-ate without realizing wahahaha!

    4. i can have oat for breakfast and probably for lunch too, but then for dinner i think i won't prefer that at all, haha.. have to be something savory lah, be it hot or cold, else like something is missing, haha!! :D

Last two years post lagi terror....those time sk have time to curi ayam and make all sorts of script and strip tease for us to try out every friday. like the ones about flags of each country and the one about logo. betul betul have to think and cannot simply suka suka pakai hentam comment

LOL....i have bad habit of supper. Korek things from the fridge or cabinet to eat. Hence maybe that is why i have "baby fat"

  3. I eat them on weekends more than on weekdays.

Most time, on weekdays, it's just a cuppa of Neslo.

    1. I also tend to eat more on weekends as I could not escape the meals with my family and father or even functions. On weekdays I am in better control to eat however little I wish as I am always on the move during the weekdays and working hours.

I am just wondering how this NESLO tastes? I have heard of it for many years of this combo taste drink but never tried it. Maybe next visit, Thambee should feed me a glass of NESLO. You know how to make, rite??

    2. i cannot just have a cup of drinks (even added with a few pieces of biscuits or a sandwich) for my meals, never!! haha.. i usually have simple things on weekdays and more "unhealthy" typical Malaysian breakfast on weekends :p

Neslo is Nescafe mixed with Milo dei, you never had that?? have you then had coffee mixed with tea (i.e. cham, or yin yong) before??

      Delete
    3. Guess most will have more elaborate breakfast at weekends lah. More time. Weekdays have to rush to work and stuff. Just simple breakfast will have to do

Neslo sedap la.I used to make that in my office. a colleague taught me.

  4. High 5, SK, I am having breakfast everyday too, I hate if I know my daughters skipping their breakfast. To me, breakfast is a must, and I usually eat a lot at breakfast. I don't mind starve myself to sleep at night, and wake up with very hungry stomach, then I will allow myself to have big breakfast like you do.

I eat oats with raisins too, my favorite!
Weekends, I will allow myself to have some carbs, such as noodles soup.
Then right before lunch, I may take a cup of coffee too. Usually I eat like a king for breakfast, i eat like a beggar for dinner.

    1. SK, you take oats with raisins, cream crackers with cheese, pomelo and dried fruit today eh! All are healthy and good, except dried fruit. Dried food is too sweet for my liking. I like Oats with Raisins the most in your picture. By the way, don't you make yourself a cup coffee or tea?

    2. I forget to mention here, when I wake up in the morning, first thing I do before I brush my teeth, I will drink 3 glasses of plain water. That's my first thing to do. Then I will go to office and take my big mug of oats. Why my oats is in mug and not in bowl like SK? Because we have a very stupid rule in my office, we cannot eat anything on our cubicle, we can drink only, therefore I mix my oats in mug and not bowl. Hahaha! I drink oats though my oat is very sticky and thick. Hahaha!

    3. Muahahaha!!! My office also has the similar rules that the staff are not allowed to eat at their desks after rats were found roaming about nibbling the food droppings under the female staff's tables. So I also use mug to fill up my 3-in-1 beverages and anything soupy. Sometimes I curi curi ate food also but my table's partition blocks my view from the others. That's why they cannot see me eating or blogging!!

    4. i didn't actually have breakfast when i was schooling, even if i ever had anything for breakfast, those would be simple ones without good nutritions i supposed.. and that is why i did not grow up tall and well built and with good facial complexion!!! haiz.. hence, this explains how important breakfast is for growing children..

yeah, i actually need a BIG breakfast to kick start my day, just one cup of drinks can never be enough for me, not to say last till lunch time for me.. but i guess the trend now is that we eat less but more frequent in a day huh?? :p

    5. My office also cannot eat at our desk. If wanna eat must go to the Pantry.

Good also la coz my office is kira as public area. If got customers walk in and seeus eating at our desk, will look very unprofessional lor. Might even kena complain say not working as sibuk makan-ing only.

Usually morning, our pantry is partially full as less people eat breakfast in the pantry except for Saturday. Saturday sure liao a party in the pantry. Gotta wait for place. Only have one small foldable table mah. Those who habis makan then fast fast leave lo.

Some times got curi curi makan on the desk too la but must be before the Boss comes in otherwise will kena scolding or lecture when there is a meeting. Manyak sien lo

  6. I eat breakfast too. I used to skip breakfast when I was a child because somehow, in my family there is no breakfast culture. We get by in the mornings with just a cup of coffee and that's it. It was only later in life that I learnt to eat breakfast.

    1. For me breakfast is not too heavy because I can't eat much in the mornings. Usually it is either eggs (fried, omelette, soft or hardboiled) or overnight oats. It has to be something that is quick and easy to prepare.

      Delete
    2. I see that you have many food resources in the office pantry. My office has no pantry and hence no food hah..hah... We only have drinks like the Nescafe 3-in-1 and Milo.

      Delete
    3. I see that your breakfast is quite ample. A bowl of oats and raisins would be enough for me and yet you have pomelo, wheat cracker, dried fruits and cheese. That is very filling for me, in fact too filling hah..hah...

    4. Not bad lah your office pantry. Got quite a variety of things to eat, huh? So these food items, company supply or you guys bring your own? I know one company that orders breakfast for their staff on daily basis. Got sandwich, nasi lemak, mee goreng and the whole works.

    5. Oh, one more thing, I cannot stomach fruits early in the morning. I just can't, very difficult to swallow hah..hah... But my partner different pulak. He can eat fruits for breakfast, which I think is healthy.

    6. Overall, I think your breakfast is very wholesome. You've got lots of fiber there (from oats and the fruits), carbs from the wheat crackers and protein from the cheese.

    7. Whoaa!! I see another overnight oats fan here! Kudos! I can see the growing trend of healthy freaks seeking better quality of life by eating overnight oats. My Letchumy eats them almost daily for breakfast because I prepare a week's supply of overnight oats in the fridge for her. You know what? I seldom eat them myself because some days my tummy cannot eat cold food in the morning. I know it is weird but if it is afternoon or night, no problem!! I also avoid drinking very cold water in the mornings when I wake up.

How come PH's office has no pantry one? Protest to the boss!

    8. yeah, i grew up in a family that does not have breakfast culture, or rather not emphasising on breakfast.. i have been skipping breakfast most of the days when i was schooling, hence i did not grow up tall and well built, sobs sobs!!

yeah, i actually like this kind of breakfast, no problem with that at all.. i have no problems with cold food too.. and now i think, if i could have this kind of breakfast when i was growing, surely i can be better now, muahahahahaha!!

Uiks..I thought last time i read before that letchumi also got prepare breakfast for you, Anay. If don't like it cold then can make fresh one with hot water.

  8. I eat wholemeal bread in the morning when I start work at 7am. Does that count as breakfast? I used to eat fruits and oats as breakfast when I start work at 8am. Then when I start work at 9am I used to eat noodles or ccf at coffee shop before going to work. So what I eat for breakfast depends on what time my working hours start. I believe one must eat a good breakfast to kick start the day too. I don't understand how people can drink a cup of coffee in the morning and survive until 12noon to eat lunch.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I also believe that a good and happy breakfast would determine that my day would be smooth sailing! I must eat something but often I skipped heavy breakfasts as I am always in a hurry to swallow. I cannot eat alone in the coffee shop as it is boring unless no choice.

Eating wholemeal bread is definitely a good breakfast! Anything that goes into our mouth when we wake up is considered as breakfasts! Even we inhale air also considered as makan angin! Muahahahaha

    2. wow, your working time started as early as 7am??!! OMG, i am still in bed at that hour.. so now are you enjoying your CCF and noodles for breakfast?? and give me five, i also cannot just have a cup of drinks for breakfast!!! how can???

    1. Wow!!! Today I learn a new word! LUNCHNER!
Does that mean you either eat lunch and dinner as one meal which would likely take place at 4pm!!! Am I right?
Before that you could have eaten some light breakfasts! I must try to eat LUNCHNER since my wife goes overseas so often now like today.

    2. wah, lunchner??? so you only eat one meal a day?? what time do you usually wake up??

  10. I can't start my day without a breakfast, whether big or small and yeah, most importantly , coffee!!! If I don't eat breakfast, I will feel very lethargic and maybe will get gastric pain too! So, no way I will skip breakfast even if I am late for work. I will just call and text to excuse myself for being late and apologise, but of course, that won't happen all the time. If I got an early meeting, I will make plans for it to wake up early and sleep early so that I can have ample time for breakfast.

I need my stomach to be fill with something full...muahahah.. and of course kopi. That can only fueled my day, unlike during my younger and school days, where a cup of milo is suffice till recess time. No wonder I was so slim during then! hahaha

    1. You are always my online-brother who cannot live without coffee! I also must start my day right with very kao black coffee. Otherwise even white coffee would put a smile on my face! Maybe next life you should be born as coffee beans. Wakakaka

I always drank milo and ate sandwiches all my younger days. Those days I was so obedient, less fussy and ate anything that was shoved down my throats. These days we get fussier with food as we have aged like fussy grandmothers!

      Delete
    2. hmmm, seems like you actually need just a cup of coffee for your breakfast lah.. you are already caffeine addicted, hahaha..

    3. in other wrds , you were DBKL la in your younger days. Anything and everything also can makan la. Good la that you are not allergic to anything. Nowadays many kids are allergic to this and that so their breakfast also have to be selective...lacto free la...gluten free la and all.

I do agree with you that we get fussier when comes to food as we age. Yes our digestive system not as good as when we are young. We eat salah during breakfast then will feel bloated whole day.So instead of energise our day, it makes our day become worse.

Hmmm...now I know why sk makan so little at lunch. He posted the photos of his office cooked lunch mah before this. Rupa-rupanya he eats big breakfast...not McD big breakfast ka? Kihkihkih...oat can be very filling leh...same goes for cheese

  11. I remember once I was late for a very , very important meeting and it was an early meeting!! Luckily, I had meal replacement drinks in powder form and muesli bars. This can tahan me for 2-3 hours! Somehow I found meal replacement drink cannot hold me for too long , it can only lasted me for 2-3 hours whereas others can last till the next meal. I also felt strange after just a drink, it's like I never ate anything like that ...muahahaha.. Some say my 'engine' is big, like a 3.0cc car because I am huge. hahaha... So, need more fuel!!

I tried for almost a month drinking meal replacement drinks and most of the time, I also ended up with a second breakfast, a kopi and kaya toasts.... before I hop onto the train or bus to work!! And yeah la... I gained weight!

    1. Those replacement meal drinks can work on me all day!! They make my stomach so full of nothings! Muahahaha It was my greed and devil's temptations that made me look for solid fattening food!

    2. not for me at all.. i just cannot have one cup of drinks as my meal, even not in the case of meal replacement drinks.. i must have more, something more solid!! hahaha..

Oh Char Keow Teow....oh curry mee...oh wan tan mee...oh pisang goreng.....so nice to eat and so fattening leh.

The worse is nasi lemak....eat one paket.....tummy will be fill with lemak liao.

  12. Eating a big breakfast is a good thing and you are eating healthily. As the saying goes, eat breakfast like a king and slowly reduce your portions of meals from lunch until dinner.

I also preferred to have something full and healthy but in the morning, due to limited time, there are not much choices except a few. It's great you had cereals with raisins which contains a lot of fibre that will last your morning! And, with fruits, that will add some vit C as well as some juices for you,

Crackers are nice and probably can fill your stomach! I tried to have cereals in the morning but it also won't hold me for long. I needed something solid to eat to be able to feel full.

Once I had oats and bread iwith milo n the hospital, donkey years ago, and I really felt full.

    ReplyDelete

    1. yeah.. must have breakfast and i would actually eat a lot.. one cup of drinks can never do the trick for me, i must have solid food at least.. and yes, actually oats can be filling and last till even late lunch..

  13. Nowadays, I ate very simple but full for breakfast. Not very healthy though... I usually had economic bee hoon with fried egg and a slice of luncheon meat. The mee hoon is oily and I think it's not that healthy but it's fast and filling. I had this almost three times a day.

I will have half boiled eggs with kaya toasts for the other 2 days, of course , all meals must have a nice cuppa of hot kopi. I also have subway sandwiches at times as well as McD and on a good day, Starbucks breakfast. The STarbuck breakfast gave us a free flow of fresh , quality coffee though I don't like they microwave the cold and readied sandwiches.

  14. Try to take a multi-vitamin supplement to boost your day! No matter what, the food we ate do not contain enough nutrients for us. The best is to pop the vitamins after a nice breakfast.

I usually do that , as well as taking other vitamins which my body needed like Q10, protein shake , fish oil and etc. I also take vitamins after lunch as some needed to take twice a day.

  15. So, you had your big breakfast before you go to work or you had it in the office ? Some folks simply cannot eat in the early morning and only after reaching office then they start eating their breakfast in office. Some like me, needed to eat before the long journey to work else I will feel be hungry on the way.

There are also people who cannot eat before a journey as they needed to visit the toilet after an heavy meal in the morning...muahahahaha...

  17. It seems like a lot of readers here preferred brunch. I think it is not a good idea to skip breakfast after a long night sleep , and fasting. Yes, we of course fasted during our sleep and imagine no nutrients to feed the body after waking up and in work , until lunch, doesn't seems a good idea.

If you had a breakfast but skip lunch, I think that's still better. The best is to take a big breakfast like Sk, then if needed, just drink a replacement meal shake for lunch. This will at least provide sufficient nutrition to the body for the day.

    ReplyDelete

    1. it's not good to skip any meal at all.. even if we don't feel hungry, at least must eat something but not totally skip the meal, it's unhealthy.. and breakfast is actually the most important meal in a day, because our body has been famine for one whole night..

Then after that, after working for a few years, I have one very nice colleague who would dabao breakfast for me and we eat in the office because we have cosy room to ourselves and bosses don't come in so early so we had our breakfast in the office

And no, coz I won't have another round of "more filling" breakfast after I reached school.. After the school bus reached the school, on the way walking into the school, can smell those nasi lemak and rendang smell from the canteen already, very "lau hau sui" also geh, but didn't eat there la, coz rushing to go into the classroom for gossips already, hehe.. And those days, most of us skipped breakfast coz wana diet ma, "oi leng mm oi meang".. (want pretty don't want life)..

Unless stay in hotel, go hotel punyer buffet breakfast ok la, got dimsum, cold meats+cheese timmm.. But in my real-life, ok, wakeup earlier a bit fry egg, fish fingers, ok lagi.. But want me to fry mai bacon la, mushrooms la, hash brown la, lagi mau scrambled eggs or poached eggs la, toast bread la, baked beans la, errrrr, sorry, no talk.. Thursday fish finger/fillet+cheese, and Friday, chicken mayo maybe (from the chicken I used to boil soup on Thursday evening)..

Plus, very mafan if want me to cut the fruits, put in container, then bring to work.. By the time reach office, turn yellow liao.. I'm talking about pears or apples.. I don't eat grapes all the time, mahal ma.. Bananas? Errr, no need bring to office la, can come back eat after dinner.. Bring whole fruit and cut in office? No la, leceh la.. So, fruits for breakfast, no kua.. But during lunch time, when I go out with them, can see fruit stalls, then yes, I always buy a lot of fruits - guava, mangoes, ma tai (water chestnuts), ciku... But for breakfast, my chicken mayo+tomatoes sandwich and a cup of Milo from the pantry is enough already :)

    7. i also didn't eat breakfast when i was schooling, i grew up in a family that does not have breakfast culture or rather emphasise on breakfast.. so brunch that would be at around 10-ish during the break time..

and now of course different lah, must eat breakfast and i just cannot have only a cup of drinks as my breakfast lor, feel like so incomplete leh.. i must have something solid to eat, be it hot or cold.. and glad that i have no problem with dairy products and cold food too.. :)

  23. Happy Monday, folks. Today, I am vegan diet for the 7th day. 2 more days to complete my annual vegan diet of 9 days. So, I just finished my mug of oats with soy milk, raisins and chia seeds. It was a big mug of oats, which can keep me full till 12pm. May before 12 pm, I again will make myself a cup of coffee-O to kick away the Monday blue.

I find I put on weight during my vegan diet, may be vegan diet will make consume more carbs, due to all the flour.

I must work double harder to burn all the carbs.

    1. Good afternoon everyone, I thought my oats would last me till noon, it couldn't. I just make myself a cup of coffee-O, I ate some cut papayas and two tortoise buns from the prayers to The Nineth Emperor. So, I will take fruits again at my lunch.

I ate double breakfast every day, one before 9am, one before 11am. Kekekek! No wonder Yannie is not as slim as Sammi Cheng.

  24. I'm a breakfast person, must eat a breakfast first before I start my day, if don't let me eat, I will feel like something has missing in my day and no mood throughout the whole day! Usually my weekdays breakfast are almost the same, one fruit and one bread, that's all! If not full enough, I will have a cup of hot milo! My Saturday breakfast is different, dim sum with my mom before I go out and for Sunday, my mom will da Bao for me, which is dry wonton noodles or dry kwey diao noodles, hehe!

  25. Good morning Bloggers! It is Monday and the skies are polluted with the worst haze of the month. My poor nose is sneezing and watering mucus out. Atchoo!

So I had my breakfast of oats this morning and that could last me till lunch hour or later. I am also a firm believer in eating good, well balanced and big breakfasts each day to start the day right. However, I am also like Thambee and cannot afford to eat the luxurious breakfast buffets at the hotels. Those are so yummy and tempting which made me drool even at the thought of it. If I eat heavy breakfasts, I would normally skip lunch till the next meal at dinner time but not without a cup of coffee at tea time. That way could keep my weight steady.

Whenever I went overseas, I try to enjoy the hotel's breakfasts to the fullest so that I could save money and time by not eating lunch as I could be traveling non stop on the road to somewhere exotic and good meals would likely not be found along the route. Their good eateries often located elsewhere which could be many miles away by cab rides.

    1. yeah, i am also a firm believer that we must not skip breakfast.. we have been starving our body throughout the night and we must immediately replenish food to our body.. that actually makes me cannot accept having just one cup of drinks for breakfast, i must have something solid to go into my stomach, hahaha..

oh yeah, those hotel buffet breakfast, how i love them!!! and of course, i care not about healthy lifestyle if i am surrounded by all the bacons, sausages, toasts, eggs, grills, cold cuts etc~~ :p

    2. Me too, when I go oversea, I will try my best to try all kind of local buffet breakfast, make use of every penny ma! Hehe! Plus, I always find that oversea's food is so much 'prettier' than what we have here, their fruits are bigger and more colorful and sweeter, their drinks are nicer too!

    3. Good mornng Anay...LOL ..your nose ah is more accurate and sensitive than all those Haze API readers. Eyes not open yet to see any haze, the nose will auto tell you that haze is coming.

During hazy weather, i think you will have to eat more healthy breakfast lor. Don;t just drink coffee only. Must drink Milo or maybe one of the healthy fitness drinks that Wenn is drinking. It's full of goodness and vitamins to fight whatever penyakit that comes with the haze leh.

Coffee is not good for breakfast when hazy weather. That day i drink coffee when the haze was around(biasa morning coffee is my breakfast mah), i get headache leh. Maybe all the caffein reaction toward the haze ...not enough oxygen or something la. Head pounding like mad. Don;t feel like doing anything at all then.

Having Oat for breakfast, you have made a good and wise choice lah. Hope that oat gives you a good day that day.

Oh....so this is the way how you are so slim la...must eat breakfast to be tall and also slim.

I don't think many of us can afford pricey hotel buffet breakfast daily la. Most likely will be during vacation time only can eat like that. As i said yesterday, hotel breakfast also not necessarily taste good.

Sometimes breakfast like the one SK made for himslef from his digging in the office pantry is better and more nutritious leh.

This SK must be a duracell bunny in his last lifetime. Eat so big punya breakfast but he tarak expand sideways geh. Others would have expand sideways already. Hmmm...maybe coz Sk is forever on the move ah. Running here and there...taking LRT ...meeting clients ...going to gym...blog spamming and all....no all the fat burn up to negative balance liao by lunch time

  26. Yes I believe breakfast is the most important meal too, other than lunch and dinner. LOL! However, with the rush in the morning, it's hard to have a good and big breakfast.. mine is usually just peanut butter toast or cereal with milk! So I try to make it up during the weekends by having nicer breakfasts!

    1. very true, i guess we all working class would probably prefer to sleep more and hence can only afford simple breakfast, hahaha!! but come weekends, let's give ourselves all reasons and excuses for nice breakfast.. :)

  32. that's a very healthy breakfast you got there.. I never miss my breakfast too but unfortunately in my case I don't prepare or do my own meal... it is very typical for filipino to have a simple breakfast.. we got Pandesal (salt bread) matched with spreads (peanut, butter, cheese or anything you like) and paired with hot coffee or choco

    ReplyDelete

    1. i also don't usually prepare my own breakfast, time is too precious for more sleep in the morning, hahahaha!! oooh, the pandesal sounds nice, i love things slightly salted :p

  33. Oh yea, high 5! I am breakfast person! Before I got kids, I already was a breakfast person, because I know it's the most important meal of the day, and in order to lose weight (I always care about losing weight xD), we need to eat breakfast! After I got kids, I realize I need breakfast even more! Cause if not, where got energy to look after them? Somemore very active boys, tiring leh!
I would go for something easier and convenient for breakfast, like bread, bun, crackers, or may be cake. Top with a cup of hot beverages like Milo. Kaotim! Easy and fast! Lazy (and no time) wanna go out to eat ma... So usually I will always prepare these snacks in my room. If during the days when hubby is not working (like Sundays or public holidays), then we will go out to eat, usually my choice would be noodles la! Once a while, may be some western food, or dim sum.
Those big breakfast you mentioned, I saw a lot of them (photos I mean), but never really had one before, hur hur T_T

Well, though I say I must eat breakfast, my breakfast time is not certain. They say best to take between 7-8am? I sure cannot make it. Usually I will eat after 9am. Perhaps mine consider brunch liao, but since it's the first meal I have, so I call it breakfast, hehe!

I hardly skip breakfast. I am someone who enjoy food =)

  35. Good la that you are one of those who eats breakfast daily. Very healthy...but but how big is your breakfast leh....if too big also not good leh. Become sleepy liao after that. End up not productive at all .

You wanna have those hotel breakfast buffet ah? Those nice meh? Usually if i go for hotel breakfast buffet i end up eating not that much...or maybe my tummy have not wake up yet la.

I see most of the hotel buffet so-so only. Unless you go to those with really good chef punya la. But even so...morning buffet usually nothing much leh...sometimes the food not up to standard. Maybe the kitchen staffs still sleepy or what la.

So far the really nice one that i had was at the Casa De Rosa Melaka. That was very good. That one really had all the things you meantion..Ham..sausages ..toasts ...eggs(various style)...grille vege...fresh salad..fresh juice...."real" soya bean and fresh milk...sauteeded mushroom and many more.
