[Volume 10 Issue 10, #2062]
Trivially Unimportant Topics
Of course it's trivial, but then most things are

i love this quote above by John Malkovich, "Of course it's trivial, but then most things are", that totally speaks out all i wanted to say.. [Read on]yeah, i know i always like to bring about trivial topics that are so mundane for discussion in my blog.. when other bloggers talk big about whatever food they eat, i talk about SPF (shit piss fart).. when other bloggers talk big about their daily activities, i talk about going to the toilet.. and the list goes on for my blog, hahaha!! i always think the blogsphere would be so boring if everyone is doing the same thing.. maybe i shall stay away from mainstream and be unorthodox, at least i can give you a breather and unexpected surprise (or even shock sometimes) when you are bloghopping?? having that said, probably my blog deviates from the real purpose of a blog, which comes from the word weblog, that is to record one's routine and thoughts on the web rather than discussions!! oopss.. :p

anyway, as my usual style, let's continue to be trivial again today, hahaha!!
  • you are making a cup of hot chocolate, do you put in the powder first and then pour in water, or you fill in water first and then stir in the powder??
  • you spreaded jam on your slice of bread, how do you usually like it?? fold into half, whole piece flat or you take another slice to top it??
  • you have a few types of food on one plate, do you eat them separately one after another, or mix them and eat all together?? do you eat your favorite one first or last??
  • you are eating an apple, do you like to peel the skin or leave the skin?? do you cut it into pieces or you like to bite it as a whole??

    1. Your post is akin to Don't sweat the small stuffs but somehow I felt these trivial or small stuffs, if too many and not managed well,,, it can turn into a big nightmare.

Anyway, I am refering to mostly stuffs at work, not as trivial as your examples like putting milk first or powder first...muahahaha... But sometimes, it can turn awry. I just had a diarhoea but I mixed my meal replacement drink with scoop of protein shakes... hehehe...

  2. Yeah, I like the way you post also. It's very different from the rest of the gang. It's als easy to understand like topics whether you like to shower, simple meals... etc. Most of the folks would love to post their food posting, as its the easiest to do. Just snap the pic of the food before you ate.

Some are more focus, they mostly post and talk on the same topic most of the time, which I think it's good too. It may generate more readers who have the same interests , as well as income. This is especially so if the posts are well-written!

  8. hah..hah...I like this post lah. Talking about the so called trivial and unsignificant things. As a matter of fact it made me stop and think when you posed those 4 questions. It's something I took for granted and never thought of!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. So to answer your questions one by one. For the first one I would put the chocolate powder (in my case it is coffee) into the mug first and then pour in the hot water.

      Delete
    2. The second question I had to think a little bit. I actually take it differently on different occasions. Sometimes, I would put another slice of bread on top and at other times, I would just fold the bread in half. And if I am taking toast, then I would take the whole piece flat.

      Delete
    3. For the food on the plate, it depends on what I am eating. If eating rice, then I tend to to mix i.e a spoon of rice with my meat and vegetables. If makan Western style, I will eat the meat, vegetables, fries separately. If taking food from buffet pulak, then I eat them separately (if they are not rice with dishes). Now I am being more trivial than you :D

      Delete
    4. Oh, forgot about the favorite one. I always leave the favorite to the last to be enjoyed and savored in my own sweet time hee..hee..

      Delete
    5. As for the apple, I actually prefer to eat it whole with skin. But due to concerns about pesticides, now I peel it. And once peeled, not so shiok to eat it whole. So must slice it. I hardly eat apples but I do the peeling and slicing for my partner.

      Delete
    6. To eat apple with its skin, we need to make sure it's washed properly. I use fruit wash before I eat it whole with skin.

      Delete
    7. hehehe, i always like to dig out very trivial and minute things to blog about.. it's fun to actually read about something that would probe us to think about what we always do not realize or totally ignore right?? :)

  9. This post is so unique and only Thambee can think of questioning the bloggers over their habits and styles. I have given much thoughts over the above questions and realised I have different ways and habits from time to time.

    1. If I drink hot chocolate, I would definitely place the chocolate powder into the mug before pouring hot water to stir it.
If I am drinking 3-in-1 coffee mix, I would also pour in the pre mixed coffee mixture into the mug before adding hot water.
If I were to drink beverages from the sachet like tea or black coffee, I would normally pour in the hot water first and let the sachet float on top which would let it simmer naturally & sink to the bottom! That's my funny habit for no apparent reasons.

If I were to drink the costly oat-bran beverages, I would pour in cold water into the mug and scoop 2 spoons of the oat mixture into the mug later and stir them briskly. It cannot be added first before the water otherwise it would make a very sticky lump at the base of the mug.

      Delete
    2. The chocolate drink tastes better if we pour hot water into it. But for supplement in powder form, I usually pour cold water first.

    3. it would be fun to talk about trivial stuffs that little blogger may have think of.. and i guess as trivial as these are, it's fun thinking things you are so used to but often neglect, took you a while to put an answer to the 4 questions above huh??

  10. I have so many patterns eating bread and jam. My bread must be toasted crispy and it has to be whole meal with lots of cereals. I would eat one open slice by itself and it could go up to max 4 slices if I am not in a hurry.
If my bread is not toasted, I would stick 2 slices together and cut them into triangle halves. I would not fold them at all except that I am wrapping them with tuna fish or bak kwa pieces! Yumms!

    1. This platter sounds like my plate with mixed dishes from the buffet table. I would eat them one by one without any preferences which is no fist and no last pieces into my mouth. If I eat Chap Fun Mixed Rice, I would have max 2 dishes only which both are equally yummy. I am getting fat and round now. Need to go on crash diet.

      Delete
    2. I definitely have to peel the skin of all the fruits except grapes. I am terrified about all the chemical sprays on the fruits nowadays. I would have to cut the apples and pears into pieces otherwise I would not be able to peel their skin.

I think we should not eat the skin of all fruits as nature is such. We also avoid eating the skins of watermelon, banana, mangoes, durians, mangoesteen and etc. Their skins appear to be bitter and act as protection to the inner fruits. So I prefer not to eat the skins of the apples and pears too. They taste sweeter that way.

      Delete
    3. Most of the time, I will peel the skin as it tastes better without the skin. But we know some skins are full of vitamins like in the case of the apple.

      Delete
    4. the answers may not be absolute actually.. take for example the bread thing, it depends on my mood though.. sometimes i go for a fold, sometimes flat, sometimes sandwich.. and for fruits, i peel and cut into pieces because i do not want to make a mess when i am eating them..

      Delete
  11. Oh yes, agreed! Just like when everyone's talking about lou sang and pak-jam-gai, I talk about The Ship and jellycakes. When everyone's talking about Merry Christmas and their buffet dinner, I talk about staying at home only and cooked ABC soup with yee-mein.. Huhuhu..

    1. 1) I put powder into the cup first, then put other stuff like brown sugar of condensed milk or milk powder, then last last only add hot water.. Taste a bit first, or lick a bit first, then add air suam, then stir again, then lick again, then add ice..

      Delete
    2. I spread jam on a slice of bread, then add peanut butter or butter onto another slice of bread, "kiap" them together, lick the knife, and eat! Haha.. Or cheese on a slice of bread, then spread Kewpie mayo on another slice, "kiap" again, and eat! I seldom eat just 1 slice of bread, usually "kiap" two pieces together..

      Delete
    3. 3) Sounds like chap farn or kiu-soong.. I kiasu take a few, or whatever that stops in front of me (from the lazy susan round thingy), then scoop and take and sapu, put onto my plate, then pretend to act "see-mun" eat little by little, while my eye is eyeing on the dishes that I like, then turn the lazy susan towards me and take again.. In conclusion, to answer your question, I eat all at the same time, so that my plate will look "decent" before taking other dishes again, so people won't say I'm like a hungry ghost or kiasu scared cannot eat like that..

    4. 4) Before having kids, I take an apple, scrape the wax, and terus eat whole, with the skin.. After having kids, I peel the skin, cut into quarters, lagi cut into cubes, to make it smaller, for the kids to eat..

      Delete
    5. I will peel the skin and cut the apples into cubes too for my kids. They dislike eating fruits.

      Delete
    6. I think small kids (most of them) dislike fruits especially oranges.. Even Vitagen flavour, they dislike the orange and the white colour flavour, they LOVE the grapes and apple flavour.. As for fruits, my kids only eat apples and bananas.. I tried offering oranges, but they hated it.. I also tried pears, papayas, even mangoes, they touch also don't wana touch.. It's hard to make them eat fruits..

      Delete
    7. The kids hated their vegetables too.. Anything red/gree/yellow/orange, they will reject the whole bowl of food.. Like a bowl of soup noodles, if they see spring onions or taugeh inside, they will say no to the food.. It's really hard to get them to eat veggies.. The only way os to finely chop some carrots and mix it into meat patties, make into sui kow and deep fry it.. Then they will eat a few bites of the fried siew kow.. But don't let them see any green in it, else, 1 bite also they don't want.. Haizzz...

  17. Though luckily I managed to get FC this time, I still need to re-read your blog post to understand better as it seems very profound. Probably you put the John Malkovich quote there which makes this post very cheem!! Or our thinking has been so complicated that we have problems understanding something simple.

I think it's just your blogging style and that differentiate everyone of us. I think I did blog about different blogging styles before and just like our character, all of us are unique. It's similar to how we wanted to arrange our house, where for an empty apartment, each of us have our preferences if renovating it.

After spreading the jam onto a toast, I will spread onto another toast, and then, put two pieces together! Somehow I dislikes folding it into half! I dunno why but as a kid, I will shout at it when my mom did it and request for two pieces...hahaha...

And, even eating bak kwa, I will placed two half pieces (since they cut into small pieces nowadays) onto two toasts, sandwiched it before eating. hahaha... That's my style! I don't eat it plain!

  20. Scenario 3

Oh.. I will eat my favourite follow by the not so favourite and repeat the cycle. For example, if I order a bento which contains of sashimi, tempura, agedashi tofu and teriyaki chicken, I will eat the salmon sashimi first follow by , probably a bite on the potato tempura. Then, I proceed with my favourite sashimi slice again before taking in the not so favourite chicken teriyaki but follow by my yummy prawn tempura.

When I was a kid, I used to leave the best in the last , like for a bowl of noodles, the wanton, fishballs and so on will stayed while I finished the noodles first. Then, the best of all, I drink sip my ice cold drink at the end.

    1. give me five!! i will also finish each of the stuffs on a bento one after another leh.. like that only feel like having kaiseki-ryori huh?? hahahaha~~

  21. Scenario 4

I will wash and polish the red apple before munching on it... what peeling or cutting ... I just munch and munch like a Pacman till it finished. muahahahhaa...

But other fruits , it depends la. For example, if it's guava or a slice of pineapple, I will request it to be cut into cubes and put plum powder onto it. With a stick, I will pick up one cube at a time to enjoy it. As for kiwi, definitely, I will cut into half and use a tablespoon to dig the flesh out. But for papaya, strangely, I will eat it in slices instead of cutting it into cubes. So, it depends la... hahaha...

  22. Each and every person has their own styles and way of doing things and that's also where conflicts will happened. There are all sorts of people out there and with different temper, intelligence, patience and so on. But at the end of the day, if the person is willing, the job will always can be completed, with his own way.

Everybody are different....but somehow after reading the quote, I do agreed that most things can be trivial but it is we who make it complicated, especially we want to squeeze the extra out of something. For example, want to own the latest iphone? Just wait for a while till the crowd subsides rather than being so kiasu and queue the whole night under the haze, in order to be one of the pioneer owners.

    1. I put the powder first..... if you put the powder after the water, it could be a little messy when you need to stir it unlike when you put the powder first.. at least the moment you pour the hotwater, the powder will start to dissolve already

    2. I often rolled it or fold it in half.. this way I can dip the bread into my coffee.. that's how I like it to be eaten

    3. I guess it depends... some food are not just perfectly matched and meant to be eaten separately... I also have this habit to eat those food I don't like (I eat veggies first LOL) then I save the best for last haha

SK is a very detailed and perfectionist. I know even a very trivial things, SK will do it with care and concern.

    5. Yannie is a very cincai person, do things also cincai, so result also very cincai. No good. I must learn to be more detailed like SK.

    6. Every morning, I must take oats as my breakfast. I took overnight oats many months ago. I have got sick of overnight oats, and now i took hot warm oats every morning. I will put soy powder in my mug, pour in cold water, stir until the soy powder resolves then I will pour in hot water, put in rolled oats, chia seeds and raisins. That's my every morning breakie.
Towards late afternoon, I will again get water, then open up a packet of 3 in 1 coffee to put inside my mug.

    7. As for bread, I will make french toast, or just toast it with butter, then sprinkle some sugar on top, I will let my daughters take it slice by slice without folding. If I need to spread jam on top, then I will fold into half. In fact, I have no fix way of eating bread. Macam macam pun boleh.

    8. As for eating fruits, I must peel the skin, cut into piece then only eat. I love peeling orange skin with hands, then just eat the orange flesh by peeling of slice by slice while watching my favourite TV programs.

    9. When I eat rice, I love mixing all the dishes together and eat. Hahaha! If i eat other things, I will eat one after another. I will eat my favourite first, in case I can't finish the food that i have, the one I least favorite will be left out.

  36. Ehh my preferences are same like yours! Except for the bread, I usually have 2 pieces smacked together, so no need to fold. LOL!

  37. Good afternoon sk

I see dove up there. .muhahahahahaha

Ngum wor..dove was talking about SPF...

It is certainly not a trival matter . Must hint hintbwink wink..

  38. Hmm very interesting topic!

    1. I did both actually, haha! Depends on my mood, or I would say depends what comes to my mind that time. But I think most of the time I put in the powder first then only pour hot water, cause like that the powder is easier to melt and can blend easily.

    2. Erm, take another slice to top it. Unless if I am full already, then I choose to take just one slice, then I will fold into half.

    3. Mix them. More balanced to my appetite, haha!

    4. If I am the one who eat the apple, I will bite it as a whole, with skin on, cause skin got a lot of vitamin, if peel them then it's quite wasteful, no? But if it's for my son, I have to peel the skin, cause he doesn't like the skin, harder for him to chew and swallow. Then sometimes he will bite as a whole, but most of the time I slice it into pieces la, easier for him to eat.

Additional point,, if after I bite the apple and realize the skin is not nice, I will peel it away. Sometimes may be the apple is not 'fresh' anymore so the skin also harder to chew...

  39. Good morning SK

mak datuk oi....very "deep" insight there. Of Course it is trival but then most things are....sound like one of Buddhist teaching that I learn from Stephen Chow movies...."sik jek si hung, hung jik si sik....." thingy. Made me panic for a mment on how to comment leh. LOL.

  40. wanna stay away from mainstream and be unorthodox ah? hmmm... ngum ngum i read one blog about how everyone want to be happy and worked hard to achieve happiness. And there are some readers that say some sadness and letting the tears out is also a way of achieving happiness

I SPF opinion la...it's very hard to be create something unexpecte for your readers leh. Coz we all already biasa with that also and we come to expect that. Now if suddenly one day your blog suddenly appear one post that is totally copied and paste from online source and langsung with no word from you...then I think we will be shocked la.

The shitting and pissing posts were shocking in the beginning but too much of the toilet behaviour, now no longer shocking liao. Becoming to be a norm liao.

I like the shocking post about tattoo.. Really thought you were getting a tattoo on that . So end up did you get a tattoo? The photo you put up with that post also very shocking jor.

  42. okay okay let this old nenek kebayan humor your trivial la today
...still keeping my fingers crossed on the internet line

when making a cup of hot chocolate ah....means milo is it?

For me I would put in the milo powder first. Then pour in hot water. But not full cup. Just pour in about 1cm...or 2 cm depending on how much powder i put in la. usually i put in a lot coz kaldip and J likes their milo very thick. Otherwise will bising

anyway...i pour in the hot water...just a bit,,,then stir it....i find that the powder will melt easier than when i pour in the whole cup of water or when i pour in hot water then follow by the powder. Don't have the "lumpy" unmelted milo powder if i do it this way. After that i can just add in more water or just add ice cubes. It will melt and dilute the thick milo . Will be just nice lo.

anyway...i ping pong back the question to you...this might be trivial but also "he say she say you say" situation. When you make the hot chocolate...and if you add in milk powder...do you use hot water or warm water? some say if use hot water, it will "kill" whatever goodness that is in the milk and chocolate powder. But if use warm water, the powder is hard to "melt". How?

  43. Number two trivial ah. That is easy for me. It depends on the bread. Whether the bread is plain and not toasted bread or toasted bread.

if it is plain bread and not toasted, usually i would spread the jam or butter then fold it into two /half to eat. I don't really like eating bread.. If can...i would avoid eating bread. so when i read bread...one slice would be enough. Unless am very hungry la then only i would take another slice and put on top of it

If it is toasted bread, i would take two slices. Coz I hate it when i fold the bread, all the crumbs will fall here and there. yes, got plate to alas but then still messy la.

But if am really not that hungry....i am forced to eat that one piece of toasted bread with only jam on top. meaning no folding the bread or add additional bread on top of it. Quite messy with jam kena my lips but no choice. Wasteful if cannot finish two slices of bread.

  44. #3 trivial..

hm ...this one a bit hard to answer. eat separately on after another or mixed and eat together like rojak...

for me it will have to depend on what type of food.Let say western food.- steak....I would go for the broccoli first. Yup...usually i select broccoli and sweet corn as the two side dish.

when eaten a few pieces of that...by then my sweet corn or fries would have been "stolen" by someone...only then will i start with the meat.

If let say mixed rice...I would eat a mixture of that la but not really "mixed" till like rojak. I would eat a spoon of rice with this vege then another with that meat ad another with another vege ...just rotating among all the vege and meat la

I don't like to eat everything mixed together like rojak coz all the taste will feel weird to me. maybe that is why i dun really like teo chew porridge. Many like to throw everything into the porridge and eat.

as for question 3(b), whether i would eat the one i like the most first or eat it last. Easy..i would eat it last. save the best for last. but then there will be a risk that others will "kiap" or eat finish that dish before i finish my rice la. one way of preventing this is to Kiap the whatever into my plate first **hahaha evil laugh**

I like runny egg yolk. if ever fry egg, i would eat the yolk last But if it is in noodles, i would eat it first coz I don't want to accidentally poke the eggs yolk and burst it. I love to gulp it up. Hahaha

if let say it is prawns, crabs or fried chicken wings...i would et them last coz those need to use hand and fingers to eat baru best mah. so if i eat them first, i would have to go wash my hand before i proceed with eating rice or noodles. Very troublesome

  45. #4 Trivial.

how to eat anapple ah...for me it will always...always peel off the skin. A habit since small till now. In the beginning it was because my mom used to buy green apple and the skin is very sour if bitten. So i always peel the skin first. Then dip in salt and eat. nice...salty and sour. And before you ask...yes..i like green apples more that red apples. I like those with "powdery" texture. I know am weird la coz usually people like the crunchy texture. For me crunchy texture have a lot of hampas. I was lazy to chew la. those powdery texture type maybe old already and kinda "melt" in the mouth lo.

when grow older..I read about how the apples being coated with a layer of wax to make it tahan lama ...so that it won't rot on the way here...i lagi mau peel the skin lo. yes..no doubt they say the wax is edible and won't harm human body but but am just not comfortable with that la. Same goes for pears.

I think plum is coated too but then too difficult to peel the skin so had to eat it as it is. No choice lo.

Even grapes I would peel off the skin leh if got the time and patience

as for eating the apple whole or cut it in slices...I would cut it into pieces to eat. And also will cut off the core...hated it if ter-bite the seeds . Can say that i like my apple one type of texture only la...dun like to eat with suddenly have seeds or core.

  46. last :-

wakakaka you very naughty ah. I thought you will write something..,but instead you highlighted it pulak. unexpected...but that is your aim kan?

for first trivial looks pretty similar to how i would do it though tarak specify whether the water will pour into full cup first before stirring or not.

fold into half...why ya? Is it like me ...worry that cannot finish double decker type of bread so fold it into half. but what about toasted? Also fold half? Not geram me see the crumbs falling.

as for the 3rd one...i suspected jor coz some time ago you have blogged about something like this. There you have mentioned that you do not like to eat your mixed rice all mixed together like rojak.

yes...we do the same too for the 4th trivial. Better peel skin an cut into pieces so that it is more manageable to eat. not stuffing whole apple into the mouth. May look sexy in TV advertisement but the when in real life..it could be real messy.
