The Nanoblock That Made Many Had McDonald's Every Thursday..
McDonald's x Nanoblock

i wasn't aware about this Nanoblock thing until a friend in Singapore messaged me just one day before its launching day.. okay, i actually already have two (the Big Mac and Fries on the left) which my friend in HK sent to me as birthday gift months ago, i thought since i already have two then might as well get the rest to make a complete collection.. as such i hopped on the journey, exercising my patience at McD outlets which were packed with people every Thursday morning.. i thought i was early, yet there were always a long line before me!! anyway, i still managed to get mine and have a complete set of collection, after a couple of weeks of "peer pressure" from the other collectors, hahaha!!

where did all these people come from and why a sudden flux of fever about this Nanoblock?? so here's the topic for discussion today, which i supposed you have always been asking: why are people so crazy about McD's toys?? i simply see them as purely "collector's items", everyone has got what they most fancy about, just like Hippomama can never have enough of diamond rings and Airmess handbags.. it's not wrong because i guess everyone does this for what they fancy, if and only if we do what we can afford and deserve but never take advantage of others for the sake of our own pleasure.. what would you say?? :)

  1. The long queues of cars and human beings for the past weeks have been crazy. Nearby my home, the traffic became jammed for 1 kilometer with cars driving through to buy & get the freebies. They caused so much traffic disruptions for these gifts. I have no comments except some drivers have nano-brains for blacking junctions and road access to other road users.

Anyways, I would say that these collector-items have been believed to be an investment in future when the products are no longer extinct. Hello?? How many times they have rolled out the Hello Kitty's range of limited edition toys? It seems endless and recycled until its value should be considered. Luckily I am not crazy over this, probably it is my age. I do take interests to observe and study this mania as I am the advertising line. My handicapped friend who is paralyzed on wheel chair even queued up early morning for this. Sigh!

    1. By the way, my home has got a 7 feet tall Ikea shelf that is allocated to decorate my wife's Hello Kitty collections too! Oh well, she is very fortunate as she never had to queue up as she has close friends who would love to pamper and queue up for her. They bought them as gifts for her knowing her hubby has turned a blind eye on them. My advertising career tells me that whatever promo that works would be repeated until the sun rises from the West. Hee hee hee

    2. Once upon a time, during my student days I only started to notice that the Americans often sold collector's limited-edition items in the flea markets and charity bazaars. Those items were more valuable like old posters, coca cola items and cards commemorating the favourite sport teams of Ice Hockey, Baseball, Football and Basketball. They could fetch hundreds of US dollars per item back in those days. I gathered those old items became unexpected hot collector's items unplanned from the start when the demands grew in later years and there's how the birth mania started.

    3. i have the same thought as you on Hello Kitty, they have launched that so many times until i guess the people also got bored, same thing goes to the Coca-Cola glasses.. they should have more Minions and Doraemon!! muahahaha~~

and you are right, collector's limited edition items can be very expensive and cost a bomb.. so i am trying my luck to see if there is any chance to get rich out of my McD collections!! muahahahaha, *dreaming *

    4. Touch wood. My house is near McD but not THAT near. so tarak cars blocking the road for it.

So far I don;t think I have encountered the super long queue for McD toys la. The longest queueing time was around half hour la. Only once super long ago was the KFC Colonel Sander toy. The Colonel was wearing outfit from various countries.

Collector item most did not buy for investment. Rather for own pleasure. maybe there are some opportunist that went and queue . They buy and sell in E-Bay or something .

My friend bought a set of minion from one of these people. She mentioned that the lady buy the Happy Meals then donate it to the homeless while the toys, resell to people. Said it's win win situation

No need to go to America...just see flea market in Melaka and Amcorp. There are so many coca-cola collectors item there. Also got Milo car collector items.

Minion too man liao lor. I have chased two batches of McD minions....don;t think will chase again...unless suddenly kena minions fever la. Peer pressure. People buy i also follow buy that kind of attitude la.

  4. My colleague is a collector too. Last week we went for lunch and she got one. I thought it is like mini Lego and can be dismantled, but turns out their are just one piece moulded to look like mini Lego. Immediately lost interest then hahaha!

    1. Luckily you guys mentioned here, I thought the Nanoblock can be dismantled and fixed again. Oh! It isn't. They looked kind of special toys, and I saw the advertisement and felt like buying for my daughters. But my two daughters were busy with the exam that time, and they didn't really show interest to collect them. Therefore, I just forget to get any of them for my daughters this round.
I guess my two daughters have outgrown the toys, and they are now reading books more. I spent a lot on book.

    2. i've already known the Nanoblock are fixed and cannot be dismantled because i got two earlier on from HK.. just for the sake of collecting one complete set, i won't go and dismantle and fix it again also lah, haha~~

  5. Alas, this nanoblock toy is just not my thing hah..hah... I guess to the collectors and those who have an interest and hobby, it is exciting to collect all the nanoblocks and complete their collection. Then they will be so satisfied and have a sense of achievement.

  6. Oh .. So that's another craze from mcd , huh ? I didn't heard about but that's normal as I seldom patronize mcd except for some quick meals once a while. I only heard about the hello kitty fever then where folks queue up from night till morning here. And not forgetting they camped, quarrel and fight with others just to get some plush toys, which is to me is foolish enough. Why I said that is these toys were treated as rubbish some years later instead of becoming a collectors items.

Somehow I felt mcd toys are not precious enough to be collectors items where they can be sell away at an higher price. Compared to those collectors items from movies and etc , it's usually do not have values. However , items like transformers , vinyl toys like predators , aliens and so on have better selling values.

So , to me I don't really take mcd toys seriously even if I have to sell it as it really don't have much values. It's more of a cheaper alternatives to the toys sold outside and it also fragile , can break easily . Muhahaahhaha

    1. yes, i think many people just bought the toys so that they can sell them to collectors who could get hold of the toys at a higher price.. all the queues created are probably not genuine collectors of fans, but what we call BUYERS..

  7. I am curious how these nanoblocks works , is it something like Lego ? Perhaps I should buy a meal and check it out! Hahhaha... Anyway having such toys on offer for the kids meal is better than some other toys which is kinda not that fun. I remember I got some toys for my kids from the kids meal and the toy was not really that playable. After putting the parts together , my kid just played it for a short while and it became rubbish. Hahha...

I think once a while mcd will come out with something special but of course , affordable toys to lure the kids (and adults) to buy their sets. I seldom ate mcd but I do remember their Star Wars cup, transformer toys as well hello kitty.

    1. it's fixed and cannot be dismantled or build again, just purely for the sake of decoration and collection.. anyway, this Nanoblock does not come with Happy Meal, haha, just purchase anything and you can get the Nanoblock at RM6 each..

  8. I think people are just curious about the toys and from the look of it , it can be appealing especially hello kitty and it's also very affordable. Some may thought , well might as well just spend a few dollars on the toy since it looks so good, and to feel good themselves too!

For parents with kids , it can be an affordable toy for their little ones as well as keep them quiet , else they will keep nagging for that happy meal and toy! Hahaha ..

To me , personally , these toys may look appealing but I really don't think it will last and I will definitely not buy it unless it's really special like the recent Singapore 50th national day hello kitty.

  10. I have to say this McD is really good in luring customers, especially kids! Kids love these kinda small and cute stuff, so when they like, they will ask their parents to buy, and parents these days are very 舍得 to spend money for their kids, so naturally McD stuff is very 'laku' lo! Everytime their toys also very cute and creative one...

And this nano blocks are really cute! I love the french fries one! At first thought can assemble one, mana tahu cannot, haha!
Anyway, I din't get to buy any one of them, sob sob.. Cause heard from friend have to go queue up early to buy, I where got so much time la! Even if got time I will rather spend it on sleeping, hehehe :p

Then soon I see a lot of people post online about selling whole set/single one, some even ask to exchange.
Some sell them quite expensive, like if can buy at McD at RM 6, they will sell double the price, haih, some people just wanna take chances to earn money. But hardcore fans sure 舍得 buy la, but for me, 不值得咯!Just a small toy only wert....

    1. yeah, they are actually very good in creating publicity and luring people to spend money.. haha!! i guess for this Nanoblock thing, it started will no people for the first two weeks, but the last two weeks there was crowd.. i think most probably many just go and buy, then sell at higher price to collectors who cannot get them.. not healthy at all lor like that, all take advantage of others only.. they are just buyers and not genuine fans and collectors..

      Delete
    2. Ya lo, some people just take advantage nia. But still got people willing to spend money la, those die hard fans.....

  11. I am ok with people queuing for mcd toys because their time is their own so they can do whatever they pleased with it as long as it did not hurt other people. I thought these nanoblocks are like legos but I just read RG's comments above that they are just one piece. Would be more interesting if they can be taken apart and put together again. Congrats to you for having the patience to queue until you got the complete set.

    1. very true, as long as they are not using other people's money for their own pleasure.. yeah, i actually already knew the Nanoblocks are just for displayed, cannot be dismantled and rebuilt.. but since i've already got two, i thought might as well get a complete set..

  12. Talking about nanoblocks (and Happy Meal), I want to say, I'm very unhappy lor.. A few times already, I go McD to get Happy Meals for the kids (I not harap their nanoblocks or whatever), I just want toys for the kids, coz that's what's important in a Happy Meal right? You think kids can eat a lot meh? They are just eyeing on those fries and toy only.. The burger/nuggets, they don't touch pun.. Ok, maybe they will request for sundae later..

But what I'm trying to say is, McD is ALWAYS out of stock for ANY toys for Happy Meal.. Let's say they are promoting Shrek toys that week, eh, I tak harap pun la wana get Shrek toys.. "Jou yin ji" got any toys available pun, I will sapu, janji the kids happy.. They mana tau now "hing" what toys kan? Janji inside got toys, enuff jor lor..

There was one time, they were promoting this Thomas & Friends trains for Happy Meal.. Wah, I see so happy, my boy see also happy, coz he's a big fan of Thomas.. Then sampai my turn, they say no more Thomas.. So I asked got what toys, they say Madagascar penguins.. I said ok of course, janji got some sort of toys.. If not, I buy Happy Meal for what? May as well I order one nuggets meal, Kz just share my fries and nuggets, and I buy ice cream cone for him later, lagi happy.. So end up, I sapu the Madagascar penguin even though they are having Thomas & Friends promo that week..

So, you are right.. I dunno why people so gila queue-ing up for those toys, and then when it comes to your turn, they say habis.. It's really a big disappointment especially to kids, when they are really looking fwd for those toys..

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. yeah.. i think sometimes it's unfair to the kids.. because of the toys, many pure buyers who are not genuine fans or collectors are buying the Happy Meal just for the sake of the toys, then sell them at a higher price to collectors who can't get hold of any.. this is taking advantage and is a very unhealthy thing to do.. i've seen many kids being given toys leftover from previous promotions, so pity those disappointed kids..

  15. In fact, I agree with your last sentiment, we should take what we deserve. The bottom line we should not take others advantage for the sake of our own pleasure. Well said.Something happened to me last week, and it exactly just like your last statement. This behavior is very selfish.

By the way, my friend gave my two girls Nanoblock, they weren't the McD toys, One Nanoblock is Hello Kitty and another one is Minion. Both Nanoblock can be dismantled one. They are now placed inside the cabinet as one of the display items in our living room.

  23. Good afternoon, SK

LOL...ya me too didn't know about Nano block till a friend tagged me in Facebook before the lauching. This is because I chased after the Minion toys and the thomas and friends toy when MCD launches that this year. My friend thought I would like to chase after these Nano block too la.

Your singapore friend news so up todate ya. Malaysia McD launches new Nano Block toy he/she also know ya.

Wah...you said your frond from hong kong already bought you the ig mac and the fries McD toys a few months ago? That means our side here slow ah? Aiyo...i thought these McD toys they launches world wide the same time.

Hahaha...kira good also la. silver lining coz if you missed buying 1 of the set coz sold out, you can wait for it to launch at another part of the world...maybe thailand, Indonesia or something like that and ask friends from that country to help buy for you .

    ReplyDelete
  24. I guess that is the usual way how people will start collecting McD toy la. Either one is very passionate about McD toys or one is "pressured" to continue collecting coz already have 1 item of the toy so the thinking is might as well as to continue with the whole set lo. otherwise it would be quite pointless. Unless it is for kids to play and throw la. Adults usually will collect the whole set and keep.

I have an ex-colleague whose husband is a fan of McD toys. She told us that at their house, the husband reserved a room solely for his McD toys. So far i have not been to her house la but from what she said, he husband have nice display cases to display his toys. LOL Budak besar lor.

Initially when my friend tagged me about this Nano Block, I felt like wanna collect too. But then i see uiks...it doesn;t comes with the Happy Mel. Have to buy separately at RM6 per unit and the McD Nano Block house is RM8 per unit. So I am reluctant to buy la.If comes with Happy Meal tak apa la. But this one have to fork out extra money...i have to say no thank you lor. yes, i saw the advertisement stated that can buy anything ...RM1 ice cream cone too will makes ones be eligible for the purchase of the Nano block toy. But then i feel like it is not worth i la. RM6 for that toy wor.

Then when it was launched. My friend tagged me and said that the toy is a decoration only. cannot be dismantled. She is collecting for her son to play "cashier". Adui.... like that I totally say no thanks la. Cannot be dismantled and only for decoration...just will be taking up space at my house aje lor. Not worth ut la. At least in my view la. For serious Nano Block collector it will be valuable la.

I thought after the first wave and when people discovered that the Blocks cnnot be ismantled, people will stop buying but amd surprised that so many is still queueing up for that

I hear from a friend that the McD Outlet in Kota Damansara...people queue up from midnight just to buy that toy. Friend messages me asking me whether my place here got many people buying or not. I got offer help to buy la.

But mana tau one Wednesday she whatsapps me poto of people started queueing up at 9pm itself...queue till outside the outlet ...waiting for midnight for the toy to be released. She also scared my side here habis so she went to her home there and queue up at 9pm lo. Managed to buy 2. each person allowed to buy two only. Initially those who queue up with kids ...the kids were not allowed to buy. But then maybe people started scolding la. After all queue for 3hours wor and then say cannot buy...sure the outlet will roboh kena people kick. End up kids also allowed to buy la. .

  25. Yes, everyone have the things they fancy most diamond ring....pricey handbags...gowns that is sew full of jewels and rubies during wedding...personal jet plane this and that.If you can afford it on your own then pakai hentam la. No eyes see. As long as tarak sacrifice other people so that you can enjoy yourself.

Everyone also want to have it all but then not many can managed to have that. As long as work hard and don't use bad methods then okay bah. So many people not like that leh. Cannot see people happy one.

Hahaha...me easy to gbe happy. Gimme a good book then I will be very happy liao. No need pretty handbags diamond studded gowns. Wel...if got people wanna donate to me I might consider taking la....itu pun have to see what kind of donation that is. Kinda scare if suddenly got donation out of the blue leh.
