in my previous post, we talked about drinks refills at a fast food chain and that i don't often act like an "uncle" to take advantage of that.. however i am, "uncle" as always (haha!!), very price-sensitive and calculate what best stretches my money.. i guess most of us, when patronizing fast food chain, would naturally look at the combo or set meals available, because a-la carte can be just around the price but without drinks and sides.. okay, that's the first correct step, and within the many different combo or sets offered, have you ever thought of other combinations so that you get the maximum from what you spend?? please click on each of the two set meals above and see what i have discovered.. a happy weekend ahead to everyone, and are you heading down to KFC or McD coming weekend?? hehe~~ :p

    2. Ever since my missus bought some KFC home and the meat tasted like jelly, I've stopped buying anything from there...and it is rather oily, not at all healthy...no? Not that I'm all that concerned - you guys are the ones into healthy eating - this no good, that no good...this cannot, that cannot.

    3. These business people are very smart. They will tell you 50 sen for one, you buy RM5, you get 10. If you do not pay attention, you actually think you're getting a bargain...but no, it's exactly the same. One of their tactics. :(

    6. There's coleslaw in Set C. So if you buy two of Set A, you get an extra bun and scoop of mashed potatoes and a drink...but no coleslaw...for an extra 50 sen. Don't mind the extra bun & mashed...but I wouldn't want an extra drink unless I've somebody else with me willing to eat the same.

Come on. He write nice nice thought provoking post for us to discuss and we choose to talk about how we makan and poop instead?

Like that, what's the point of him putting up post.

    10. How about comparing the calories, fat and cholesterol? If KFC is cheaper but unhealthy then do you consider it more expensive in another point of view ? For example, compare it with Subway and let's say Subway more expensive. I will definitely go with Subway which is more healthy. :)

      Delete
    11. For me Subway is expensive wor...is what I think lar...McD and KFC more worth it...

      Delete
    12. Yes SUBWAY is damn expensive but very delicious and more healthy. So what, just pay more and eat la to live longer!

      Delete
    13. My hubby's golden mouth likes Subway so much...

      Delete
    14. Aiyoh now Subway got promo what. Not that much expensive than McD or KFC what. I think KFC much pricier.

RM6.90 for a sub is a good deal. Mixed rice also c an cost more.

    15. I would say all comments are relevant EXCEPT those that give no mention whatsoever to the value meals featured in the photos above...and the issue in question - how in paying more, we may actually be getting less. But of course, as in normal conversations, we may deviate to other related stuff like what may be nicer or cheaper.

By the way, why the sudden concern with what's relevant and what's not? Is it in one of those things that may appear in a one-liner below or in a corner here or there? Never bother to read that. Just comment...like what I've been doing all this time...and enjoying it to the max! No worries, what matters is I'm happy...doing what I enjoy doing here.

Wah you one time eaten jellyfied KFC terus bann ka? Give chance la. Maybe that one opps leh.

Sometimes their meal set is okay what. Like the one highlighted by SK.

Speaking of yeah lor...I also usuallytarak noticed the price. Saw Meals" so will assume cheaper. when yougihlighted like this, sk; Betul jugak not all meals are cheaperr.

For KFC i would usually buy the two piece chicken punya coz i dont really like the colesaw or the mash potatoes. Some times the colesaw bitter taste due to the cabbage and the mash potatoes looks like ahem ahemm *Sorry ah Lina* but that one really reminds me of those la

Betul what lina said. SK susah susah think of a nice topic, me bad pulak talk about poop and not related punya topic...jawapan terpesong. if exam sure failed. Some more kesian SK have to read through our lenghty irrelevant poopsy comments. We must think also how the blog owner would feel . My apology ya, SK if my comments too lenghty and not relevant :)

    1. I hardly go KFC, usually McD or Pizza Hut or Domino's, remember the last time went to KFC because of the free voucher, so I just get whatever's on the voucher!!!

For the KFC Lunch & Dinner Treats, I'm totally with you, I don't really like the salad, no one wants to eat the salad among my family, don't even say my friends, they lagi don't like to eat vege than myself...so usually I got to force myself to finish the salad because don't want to waste the food!!! =.=

But for the breakfast one, I would go with Egg McMuffin with Chicken Roll (with coffee/tea) @ RM4.50 only!!! Because for me the hash brown doesn't taste that good to me, it's super oily like eating "oil" so every time before I've it I must use kitchen paper or tisu to "adsorb the oil" until see the hash brown is fully dry then is only fine to eat....plus if I don't do so, my sister beside will like nagging non stop saying, "yerr, those oil gonna stick in your stomach and never leave!" =.=!!!

iThanks to SK highlight on the McD breakfast meal. I normally buy the one with hashbrown though i dont eat. Give kaldip eat. I taraknotice pulak if buy coffee and the muffin plus hasbrown as add on is cheaper pulak. will take note next time liao

I like colesaw for KFC meals but but but at some outlet the colesaw tasted bitter...so i usually forgo that.

Just buy two piece chicken .Less than RM5. Tarak buy drink coz the drink too expensive.

Never think and calculate so much like you wor.. If the queue is long also, stand there wait also, eyes looking at the menu (and price), the brain also cannot process so much and think about the calculation, haha.. Basically the brain is just thinking about which set meal to order and what drinks to choose – Pepsi or Mountain Dew.. Haha..

    1. KFC is only nice if eaten on the same day.. During Kz’s and G’s birthday, we bought a bucket of KFC, there was too much food and everyone had to pack the chicken home.. The next day, I heat it up and it doesn’t taste the same anymore.. There’s no oven in the pantry, only microwave, so it has to do.. Skin was soggy, meat was hard.. Even when I re-baked it at home using oven, it just doesn’t taste the same jor.. So best eaten while it’s still fresh..

      Delete
    2. Yep, the slaw and mashed potatoes nothing to shout about.. Powdered form, yes? I mean for the mashed potatoes.. In Chilis, when you order mashed potatoes, they give the real thing, with skin somemore, so you can see they are from real potatoes.. But since it comes together with the snack plate combo, I usually always finish the slaw and mash la.. “sik tak mou sai” ma..

      Delete
    3. I even finish the bun la.. Most people don’t take the bun, but I still sapu the bun leh.. I usually “kiap” the bun with some chicken skin, mashed potatoes and slaw, oohh and some cheese sauce from the cheesy wedges.. Then *ngap*, gone in 2-3 mouths!

      Delete
    4. I don’t take McD’s breakfast by the way.. If I really need to, I will usually order fish fillet set.. Yep, they have fish fillet in the morning for bfast.. If want double cheeseburger or Big Mac, then have to wait until 11am only got.. But fish fillet, can get anytime including breakfast.. I tried their sausage mcmuffin before, didn’t like it.. To me, the sausage patty taste weird and I don’t like the bun.. Maybe it’s just me..

      Delete
    5. Aiya, normally when I walk in into any fast food outlets, really no time to think and calculate leh.. Just walk in, q up then choose the combo from the screen lor.. Like that day we went to Citta Mall Burger King, there were some promotions la.. No time to calculate and think so much, most of just just pointed to the poster and said we wanted that set meal.. Kautim.. But if I have the time, and if we are going to go back there often, of coz will calculate la, hahahaha.. See which one is more “dai”.. There’s a set which comes with chicken and burger, lagi kenyang..

    6. Like princess , I also never think much of it. Just order and eat. And , usually sets are more economical rather than a la - carte. Once I don't want the fries in mcd and only want the burger and drink. It's more expensive than the set. Even the waiter ask me to get the set. More economical , he said.

    7. Erm, I made my own mashed and coleslaw taste much better...*thick face* sorry eh.
But kids like to go to those places one, sometimes is very hard not to give them go right? once a while is ok...not always. because it is defnitely not healthy...

    8. true, self-made coleslaw definitely tastes better. I dislike the KFC coleslaw too. Sometimes it's so watery.

      Delete
    9. Angeline, haha no need paiseh, it's true, home made food is always healthier and taste better one, plus we can add in whatever things we like!! Definitely cheaper also!
Yea, kids sure love those places! It's their nature I guess. May be we acted like that as well when we were young?
Aden always seems excited and will nod his head (means he wanna go) whenever we pass by McD (especially the one at lake garden) and KFC. He even likes to go hyper market like Tesco, Giant and etc. Can't help it, my friend's kids also same, wonder what makes them so excited when visiting those places! I don't think they know the purpose of those places...
Anyway, it's good to see their happy faces!!

  15. yesterday already makes me wanna visit McDonald... not u poasted something similar and think think I wanna shifted to KFC pula... how? Celebrate mother's day at KFC or Mc Donald leh? To be equally fair and can tasted from the two fast food chains, I suggested; morning goes to Mc Donald for their breakfast set, then lunch can go for KFC meal and lastly dinner can skip or probably lunch also can skip and replaced KFC for dinner...how's that?
But I prefer to have McDonald value set meal... so worth it during lunch and dinner time..

Of course when we talk about the price we would like to have the best deal ever right? but I often meet some customers who have not decided properly and makes a long queue behind...Everyone is waiting for the customer to raise their order. Excuse me this is fast food chain, order and wait for the food to come, must be fast! because of the best deal ever, they are trying to make the best decision and keep asking this and that and forget tthat there a lot more people waiting behind.

    3. For me, I'll stand aside and starts thinking of what to order already. Easy right? so when is our turn straight away order and tell correctly and precisely what we want. So makes no mistake... I only ask what is the happy meal toys left at the counter so I can buy back for my kids without buying the happy meal.

    4. I personally like to go for McD especially during lunch hour. Morning I seldom find it interesting unless I'm in the airport lor..I'll go for McD breakfast... Come to say McD breakfast set is not cheap too. The McD breakfast option set you shown us, I will only get the ala carte of the MCegg only.. cos I don't drink the black coffee. I like their mocha, so go to the McCafe counter and order RM5.50 per cup. hehehe...

Sometimes, if I go with a bunch of friends that is another good idea in term of worth it to get value set and it is good to we can share among us... but always remember not to order too many until kenot finish right...wasted lar liddat. With friends, I can order the value set - so "dai" lor... yeah I didn't drink the coffee, but I can pass to another friend or exchange with them with other drinks too.. I don't mind. I can even drink plain water also ok for me.

    5. I would prefer pizza if my kids wants to eat fast food.
My kids like to order those KFC chicken set with drinks but they can't finish the drinks.

      Delete
    6. Related with this post, there's one more thing to say about value set too. This will only happen at KFC... ok lar we get the best set n add on items we want... then we'll sometimes say we don't want drumstick lar, chicken wing lar... small in size right? So often change larger piece... smart act bo like that... hehe..

      Delete
    7. I got one friend, he ate KFC.. and collected all the bones for his dog.

    8. I wanted to added something again...

Yesterday we went for McD for our late night supper.... Very saving lor this time. Since we are still full, but hubby still want to eat McD...Got to the Drive Thru...no car behind, so we can choose what set we wanted... then the McD staff in charged and say "Hello, do you want to try the GCB set?....hubby say no thanks... and insists order his fav set - McDeluxe spicy burger and one 6pcs of nugget. The McD staff still asked us to confirm whether the nugget you want it in set or ala carte... hubby said ala carte because we were still full. So don't think we wanted to eat summore. Lastly, the McD staff said Thank You and please pay at the next station...which I found very polite.

      The morale of the story:
      1. We are not intend to get the value set even even though is cheaper...our tummy kenot chuck so much...Even my son also never request for Happy Meal too.
      2. I'm very happy with the McD staff that served my hubby yesterday, polite and do give us some option and make sure we order the right thing. I would prefer that whenever we approach to the counter, the staff can explain just a lil bit to brief us, what is the set and offers.. Then for the add on basis items - Actually, I only know on my own...the staffs sometimes never asked us whether we can add on or not...

Yes it is true we have to judge by our ownself whether which value set is worth it...when it comes to have so many offer sets, value sets... I would appreciate they can at least highlight to us... very simple. Hi welcome to McD, today we have this promotion...bla bla bla....

    7. SK's blog's now got so many enhancement. Way to go man! Come to think about calculative or choose the best deal or being a smart buyer... sometimes hard to tell. People say Acctg line ppl very calculative... but hor I'm not one of them lar. Everything kira kira byk buat apa... spoil the fun n spoil friendship too. If u think is worth for u enough lor... but of cos we've our own budget rite? Aiya McD n KFC only rite not asking us to choose hundreds of dollars meal.. then we need to choose carefully

    8. ahem ahem.....anay, if in McD ah...you buy drive from the drive thru ...for purchase of RM20 they will give you free dessert...usually the pie or the sundae cone. But must have the McD car sticker la

Usually we drive thru buy the meals..two meals already rm20 leh so will get free dessert lo

  17. I also calculate the combos sold at the fast food joints often and detected their flaws many times as my advertising background taught me how business establishments fooled the consumers sometimes. While waiting in the long queues for my turn, my mind would do simple maths calculations to break down the items and see whether there's any savings there. Nah!
I often drew conclusions to decided on more satisfying meals but I never thought the way like SK's 2 suggestions! Smart SK!!

    1. Sk definitely is a smart observations... hey your Tamil wordings I don't know what you're writing, but can SK's system detect the sentences are relevant or not? hehehe... ask again.

Sometimes, those advertisements trick people right? everything is in good, nice ambience, big and large photos...but when the time we order, it looks so plain and the plate is not full also because the size of the chicken wings and everything is not as nice as it shown in the advertisements or any print out brochures and etc...

    2. Well, cannot blame them also la! That's business tactic! So many competitors out there, must do a bit tricks in order to attract more customers and survive.
Of course, cannot be over la! A little bit of tricks still acceptable.

I am not like you guys, when I wait in the long queues, I'll instead watch people, or play with my phone, or wondering what takes the queue so long! I won't do any calculations in my mind (may be that explain why I got poor Maths? Cause I never practise much xD)

    3. You and SK both minds are good la. SK said his mind like uncle mind but i think he very pandai la. If uncle mind will not bother to breakdown how much is each item lo.

Uncle mind will more to thinking got any freebies to that ah?LOL

  18. I say, SK! You are good lah! I used to eat those stuff and I used to wonder if combo is really that saving. I never had the time to go and figure it out. So I just leave it up to you to do that maths lah, huh?

  19. Fast food during the weekend? hmmmm... unless all the other shops are crowded.. but then I will opt for Kenny or Nando if really no choice.. :) KFC and McD were often taken when my kids were very young.. so much so now they also dont take already. :)

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. But KFC and McD are always some people's all time choice, won't bankrupt one. Unlike those Marry Brown... hehe!

Kenny and Nando are good too, but if compared to the former two, they are much more expensive.... But considering the portion, and the ingredients, quite worth it la!
Anyway, cannot afford to eat often, sure pokkai! And actually fast food isn't good for our health also, hehe!

    2. Now upgrade to Nados and Kenny roger jor ah, Claire. KFC and McD meals tak laku jor?

But if SK go to Nandos and Kenny Rogers, I think his sharp eys and mind will sure to be able to spot any discrepancy leh

  20. Yesterday, I already read the post. I was impressed by how SK compare the menu and save up some money at the end.

Thank you for sharing. I will remember this when I go to KFC and McD. Usuallly Jin Jin will queue and place order. I will remind him about what SK's has written here. We have to save up money. Big or small is important too. Just like our Big Mama, sikit sikit, lama lama jadi bukit. Right ah?

    1. I also read through SK's comment scoring system, the algorithm, the flow chart, the term and condition and everything are nicely written. Well done, SK. You are one good IT person. You have the skill, the knowledge, the attitude, the talent and the most important, creative and innovative.

I am not bodek, I speak from the bottom of my heart.

    2. I agree, sikit sikit lama lama jadi bukit! Never underestimate small savings like this!

You too think like that huh? I also agree that SK is such a smart IT person! Your boss sure likes employee like that la! xD
Not bodek too, it's something sincere from me as well.

  22. I just went to KFC last night, I prefer KFC than Macdonalds, I like KFC chicken, but I prefer original taste rather than crispy and spicy taste

    1. Libby, I am the opposite, I prefer the hot and spicy type, but if it's for Aden, then sure will buy the original one.
Hmm actually my parents and hubby also prefer original, only me likes the hot and spicy type, hehehe! But both also ok to me la!

      Delete
    2. Yes, same with Hayley, I always pick the crispy and spicy one, don't know why, I use to have the original last time, but since I learn to eat the spicy one so I choose the spicy one, just felt that I like it more!!!

  24. "their coleslaw sharks" LoL! Laugh die me! Makes sense oso your calculation over there. Will keep that in mind the next time I makan KFC. McD breakfast tak payah lah. I never wake up early enough for that... haha.

    1. Same here, I can't help but to laugh at that! xD

What time you wake up? It's valid til 11am wo! But I also seldom have McD breakfast, just don't really like it, a bit heavy for me. I'll prefer something light like milo and bread, settle at home, easy!

    2. I always have McD as breakfast while I've very early flight, guess that's the one open, right?

  25. Hi hi SK!!
    How's weekend?
Mine normal, 普通到不行!!xD But tomorrow is Mother's Day, will go back home a while, see if I can get any bouquet for my mummy ;)

Hmm, I know I have said it before but I am going to say it again, you're such a genius! xDD
Seriously, I don't think there're many people out there who would do such calculations like you. Usually we just think what to order, and won't really bother to think about how much we can save by different ordering.
Of course, set meals usually is more worth than ala-carte one. But sometimes if not feeling too hungry, scare will waste the food, I'll just order ala-carte, not worth also never mind la, not always like this ma!
Set meals are great but sometimes hor really cannot finish everything, end up wasted only, if not wasted then have to force ourselves to die die finish it also, so end up, feeling so bloated!!
But if ala carte one, macam not very enough pulak!! LOL! I guess it depends on what situation and in what restaurants also la!
I actually did some calculations also, not that I don't believe in what you wrote but because it sounds a bit unbelievable! It's true, two sets of Set A KFC is cheaper than one Set C, and also that McD sets!! Though we might not getting similar stuff, but never mind la, sometimes it's give and take, as long as can save, who cares so much? ;)

Well, I wonder what makes you come up with such comparison? You macam 发现新大陆 leh! xD I must share this with my friends and family la!! Thank you!

    1. Actually between KFC and McD, both also I like. I think both offers different things, that's why. KFC's chickens are good, and the mashed potatoes (basically these are the 2 things I like the most).
McD offers fried chickens too but not that good.

McD's burgers are better than KFC's burgers, that's what I like about McD. And their fries also taste better, nuggets too!
As for soft drinks, no need to comment much la, everywhere also same one, hehe!
So it's just depends on individual la I guess!

Come to think of it, I actually eat McD more than KFC! But McD doesn't have vouchers wo! I wish they have!
KFC/pizza hut got vouchers one, I always get them for free, you know nowadays many people prefer to give KFC vouchers as a token of appreciation during baby's fullmoon? Last time very 'heng' the yellow glutinous rice set during fullmoon right? But I notice many people prefer to be simple and quick during the recent years, just give vouchers will do.
So with these vouchers, I must go KFC lo! If not, just wasted only!

    2. Ok, one last comment before I join Aden to sleep.

I have just read your scoring system thingy, yea the last part sounds very complicated (plus I am so sleepy now, brain cannot function well, battery very low xD)! But I listen to you, just comment and enjoy the interaction with the rest. Of course, must keep on commenting, cannot miss a single post, and comment something relevant! I'll leave the scoring and ranking to you :p

Then the flowchart is very interesting! Reminds me so much what I did when I was working at S*********e. Boss never really require us to do flowchart but I find it an useful and simple tricks to do before I begin any programming! I like flowchart, it's fun la!

Ok la, shall come back for more, tomorrow, hopefully.

      Have a good night rest!!

    1. I didn't have KungFu Chicken for many many months now (can cumulated to years), so I don't bother to calculate but it's a good thing that I learnt it so I will be careful with this franchise.

    2. I must admit my math is so poor, those franchise can easily take advantage of me - especially when I'm hungry and my brain breaks down due to lack of food.

    3. High 5 Yvonne! I always thought that MacRonalds's breakie is very expensive lor.. I can feel that... Don't you think...No matter which add on to any value meals also I feel expensive... I prefer lunch and dinner time. It is a vice versa for KungFu Chicken lor... I think RM4.50 something right? Over heard from the radio keeps advertising but never tried before yet.... cheaper leh... can try but dunno when!
