[Volume 9 Issue 1, #1855]
it's two more days to CNY, have you bought your new clothes already?? although not as particular as i used to be, but i still buy something new for the sake of CNY, like this pair of shoes i bought from a warehouse sales last weekend, from RM239 to now RM99.. if i were still me back then, i probably find the design outdated, not interested with "leftover" and may not even take a look if it's not reasonably branded.. but to the now me, i am not a fashion icon wannabe (i do not have what it takes to be either), being able to wear something nice and cheap and comfortable is most important.. forget anything about brands or latest fashions, i have way passed the age to put these factors into strict considerations.. i actually find clothes nowadays super expensive yet not long-lasting, something so common but costs you a few hundred yet gone after just a few wear, is so not economical and hence i do not think they are worth for me to spend on.. look at how low the price can be at warehouse sales, and you know you have been such a big philanthropist for paying the regular price!! and what's more, paying a few hundred to buy something with a huge logo on you, worrying that nobody knows which brand you are wearing?? i think they should pay me a few hundred as advertising fees instead, haha!! anyway, just my very personal views but how a person dress up is totally his or her preference and fashion sense, i'll say as long as you are happy!! :)

    3. sometimes cheap clothings are good buy especially during sales period. I like to buy during sales as we can save quite a lot.

    4. yeah, nowadays sales are almost throughout the year.. makes no sense to buy something at normal price and then another month later, you can get it at 50% off~~ :D

  4. Believe it or not, I don’t buy new clothes for CNY for a long long time already.. I remembered many donkey years ago, I used to look forward to CNY becoz of the news clothes, angpau collections and all. But as time went by, and as I grow older, CNY is just another day. My mum used to say “If you have money, everyday is CNY” ~ LOL

    1. Many donkey years ago, when I was still a kid, I look forward to CNY.. Counting down the days and marking those days in my calendar timm.. And mum would buy each of us new clothes, even down to new underwears! We would go here & there to bailin, eating cookies like there’s no tomorrow, hoping and collecting angpau’s with a big smiling face!

      Delete
    2. Then slowly, CNY is not so fun anymore.. Some relatives, we only meet once a year.

So, these relatives started asking, are you still studying? Which college? What course? Oh, this XXX course ahh? Eh not good wor, cannot cari makan, cannot earn money. Or which uni are you in? Oh, this uni ahh, my son’s friend (and who & who) also in this uni, but they say this uni is not good, bla la bla.. So you get 1st class honours or 2nd class upper? *Yawn*

The list can just go on.

      Delete
    3. Then, the next year, they started asking: Are you paktoring now? Where’s your bf? Do bring him along soon so that we can see him. What is your bf working as? He is still living with parents or buy his own house liao?

      Delete
    4. Few years later, this comes in: When are you getting married? You wana paktor until when wor? Better get married and faster have kids while you are still young. Don’t drag too long. Where do you plan to hold your wedding reception? Chinese style or garden wedding? Old people don’t like garden buffet wor, better go for Chinese lor.. Hah, you wana “lui hang kit fun” ahh (vacation), wah then your parents ma very disappointed no Chinese reception?

      Delete
    5. Next year, this question will come: When you want to be pregnant? You married for almost 1 year liao wor.. When wana have the first kid?

***(Idiot, not that I don’t want to get pregnant ma, but I am trying to conceive and I’m stressed you people keep asking)..

I really hate it when relatives ask me this question during CNY.. I was really trying (very hard) to conceive Kenzie boy that year, and people started asking those questions. I could just smile and said “Soon soon, you guys will know if I’m really pregnant”..

Gosh, this is so sensitive you know? Many couples out there are trying so hard to conceive, going for IVF (or IUI), and belif me, you won’t know the (emotion) pains & sufferings they been thru..

      Delete
    6. Fast forward, this year, they will ask: So, you have got 1 kid.. When you want to have 2nd kid?

      Delete
    7. Nex year, mark my words, they will ask: You have got 2 boys.. When wana try for a girl?

      Delete
    8. So back to your post, so nope, I don’t buy new clothes for CNY.. I wear back my normal dresses for CNY because IMHO, I (personally) feel CNY is really a normal day, just that it’s a public holiday+I have to bailin with relatives, that’s all.

Both sides of my family are local.. So we are not going anywhere during CNY, unlike some who needs to travel back to other states (even other countries) back to their hometown. I see them everyday, MIL/my parents cook the same food for me every week, I eat their food every week, so it’s really just another day for me :)

    9. By the way, non-related to your post. Princess polka ribbon might go into hibernation (from the blog world) for at least a week until I get back to work next week. hahaha.. irritated by all those questions from the relatives?? aiyah, very simple lah, just give them your killer stare and i can guarantee you they will immediately shut up and won't ask anymore.. or either you also ask them questions that will like "stab directly into their hearts", that would be fun, let them feel what others feel mah..

yeah, so STP and Auntie Ribbon are going to courier angpow to me?? hehehe, thank you very much in advance :p

  7. Good morning Bloggers! Every Chinese New Year is always stressful for me, days before the 1st Day. So much to be done! I have to pray that boss would bestow me with enough cash bonus to get ready otherwise I have to dig money from elsewhere.

I have to buy clothes for sure besides wearing old red ones as well. I will not buy shoes as I would have bought several pairs the whole year. Chinese New Year festive season is not the best time to shop for clothes and shoes as all the retail shops would slaughter the consumers with crazy prices! A good example is the Men's shirt with local pariah brand would be over RM100 and the same goes with their pariah animal brands for over RM100 too. Kanasai la la la la la.....
So the best time to shop for clothes is right after Christmas when all the prices would offer Durian Runtuh Price Tags to clear stock for the new year. I was not born yesterday and have been in marketing line for so long, they cannot fool me.

Eat...eat...eat....non-stop. Now the mere sight of food turns me off! I really wonder how I am going to eat all the nice stuff, come Chinese New Year. A good friend in KL even couriered mee some yee sang - not easy to get that here. Not Foochow culture!!!! So now, I can go, "More high! More high!!!!" in the hope of getting lots of good fortune in the coming Horse Year.

    2. you are right Anay, nowadays i don't purposely buy new clothes for CNY because the sales is always after the CNY.. and throughout the year, we may have already bought some that we still have not had chance to wear at all, those can surely be new clothes for CNY..

hahaha, errr, food and STP?? i don't find anything funny or weird for that association, haha.. food = STP and STP = food, agree?? hahahaha.. :D

  8. I also have to order the best cookies from a home factory like 2 months ahead in bulk bags and had to pour them into smaller containers to give away to all the Ah Chims and Ah Sohs. They loved it so much that every year, they would give me the reminder stares to present them the same cookies.

Next I have to buy hampers to give some selected relatives who treated me good the whole year. The size of the hampers would determine their performance and treatment to me!!! Muahahahahaha

  9. The biggest headache is to change the new notes from the banks. I have to run around several banks to get them as they were often finished or allocated to their CCB staff & CCB friends only. Aduh!!.. Give ang pow also have to kiasu and give crispy ones but I often got used ones. Remember I once blogged that I had to iron the ang pow dollar bills so that they looked newer??? Wakakakaka

This year is the best year for me as my bimbo sister who has moved back from London is now heading the HR dept of a listed company that owns the banks in China, Singapore and Malaysia...no prize for your guesses! So she gave me the brand new notes and I was thrilled that I could stop ironing this year!!!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. No problem for me, there's a nice lady at the regular branch I go to. Saved all the new notes I wanted for me - I just had to go and collect. Give me 6 packs of the ang pao packets, not enough...I asked for more and she gave me another 5. 110 ang pao packets. That should be enough... Maybe can use some for decorations some more. Hehehehehehe!!!!!

      Delete
    2. hahaha, luckily i do not need to face this problem yet.. hmmm, next time put in a form in the angpow and get everyone to return them filling in their bank account number, and you will do online transfer - quick and immediate!! and only RM0.10 charges per transaction.. :p

    3. I'm wondering why must TM add the word bimbo to his sister...Hmm... If she's a bimbo then she wouldn't have headed the HR dept lor.. To me bimbo means dumb blonde only got looks no brains coz the brains dropped to the boobs liao...

  10. Careful picking up shoes at sales - they're made to last a certain period of time only. Often, people will buy a nice pair and use for a while...and they suddenly turn into "crocodiles"! These days, they do not make things to last - just for a while...and then you will have to buy new ones. Clever, business people now...not like those before, things would last forever!

    1. Wah!

Lucky I never experience "expired" shoes before because I do buy those warehouse sale shoe. To go running some more.

      So far so good.

But then again, depends on what brand you buy la...

I think Asadi won't last as long as Adidas. ;)

      Delete
    2. i always have problem with my shoes lah, always ended up "crocodiles" like a year later.. but i am impressed, Mak Glam can maintain her shoes so well even with harsh running.. eih, i don't buy Asadi lah, but those Nike i bought ah, tsk tsk tsk, really cannot last lah.. i have to get glue to make their lifespan longer somemore!! hahahahaha~~ :D

that's why now, don't want to buy shoes at malls at normal price lah.. rather go warehouse sales or at least 70% off at malls lah, cos really not worth to pay so much for a pair that only last for such a short time..

      Delete
    3. Actually shoes have their expiry date. I learned about that last time from my friend who sells shoes. So normally the almost expiry ones are sold cheaper. That means it won't last.

That's because my Adidas shoes lasted long. Even those I bought at 60% discount. :P

      Delete
    6. yeah, i think Adidas last longer.. because while spring cleaning yesterday, i found my pair Nike shoes that i have not been wearing for year has to be thrown away, because the sole already kind of "degraded" into small granules like sugar!! while the pair of Adidas shoes were still good albeit the white sole turn yellowish..

祝大家马年行大运,出入平安,身体健康,心想事成!Hehe, all very 'cliche' but very true!

Speaking of new clothes.... I bought the least new year clothes this year, compared to the last 2 years... Not that I can't find nice and suitable ones, but I just don't feel the mood is here la (due to some personal matters which happened lately). Plus, I got nowhere special to go also this year, so no need buy a lot la!
But I know, 不管日子多苦多难,日子还是得过.. So I bought a few pieces also la, if not it won't seems like CNY already ma! xD

    1. Speaking of shoes... I din't bought any new shoes for this CNY, but erm there was a pair of heels which I bought 2 weeks ago, for my sis in law's wedding, so I consider that one my CNY shoes already, since I only wore them once xD

And your new pair of shoes is indeed very cool and the color is so shriking!! I think I'll automatically drawn to your shoes if I see you outside, hehehe~
And from RM 239 to RM 99?? Wow, that's a very good steal! That's almost like 60% discount wo! You sure 笑到见牙不见眼咯! Hmm I guess that must be a very nice warehouse sales!

    2. Haiyah, who cares if it's outdated or not branded, as long as we like them and it's comfortable to wear! Even if it's cheap also never mind, cause when it's life span is done, we won't feel too heartache also ma! :p
I always think like that when I buy things ;)

  25. They don't make stuff that are durable any more. I am still the traditional thrifty Auntie, so will try to shop less. haha....

  29. SK, this year, I bought many clothes for myself, (as usual every year I will say the same thing, you know right?) I also bought many new shoes for myself. By the way, I also bought many clothes and many shoes for my girls. I love shopping, I am hooked to online shopping, Last year it was Cotton On, this year, it was Mango.

I told myself, now CNY is over, I should stop buy any shoes and clothes. At least I must stop for half a year. I wish I can. Wish me luck.
