2014.01.20 | 遲來祝福

[Volume 9 Issue 1, #1851]
nope, it's not my birthday, my birthday is on 17th June as you can see from the name of this blog [SK/0617] (hint hint, hehe!!).. just that i've seen many people wishing their friends "happy belated birthday" on facebook and thought of writing about my view on this.. i always find this not the correct way to say it though it's widely accepted.. birthdays are fixed and will not be late, so why is that even possible that our friends "postponed" their birthdays just because our greeting is late?? "happy belated birthday" to me means we are happy that our friend's birthday comes late (??), how funny, hahaha!! instead, i would say "belated happy birthday" since my greeting comes late, else if one insists that belated cannot be separated from birthday, then say "belated birthday greeting", any English experts to correct me if i'm wrong?? come to a second thought, why would we need to stress the word "belated" and remind our friends how forgetful of us to have missed their birthdays?? just say "happy birthday" and i don't think our friends would mind at all be it earlier, on the dot or late but the thought that counts, agree?? :)

    1. Wana talk about birthday, hmm, I also got some stories to story you all geh..

Many donkey years ago leh, when it comes to birthday, people always buy cards, buy presents, buy cake, and blow candle together-gether.. Then, when times goes by, everything short cut liao lor.. I guess many will agree with me..

      Delete
    2. Ok, let's start when we were kids first..

Where we were still very young, like 2 or 3, our parents will buy us a big butter-cream birthday cake, with candles on top.. Then take picture blowing candles and all.. Then we have a simple gift..

Then when reach kindergarten, not bad also.. Order KFC to the whole kindy, and celebrated with the whole class.. Ok, if no order KFC, all will go to McD to celebrated..

Ok, moving on to secondary school.. In secondary school, during birthdays, no more going to McD to celebrate lor.. Those are for kids only.. No more KFC also lor.. The birthday boy/gal prefer to go to Secret Recipe with a bunch of good friends, cut cake and celebrate there...

    3. Fast forward to college/uni time, suddenly all the trend change.. All wish happy birthday in FB liao.. Lastime leh, our friends will still wait until 12am midnite to call or sms happy birthday.. Now? All via FB liao can kaotim..

And you know what? I have seen wishes in FB to be as short as: hb

      Delete
    4. Wana wish also please lah, don't be as "chui pin" or cincai until like that lor.. HB wor... Puh-leese...

Hmm, I'm wondering any readers here also encounter the same thing as HB, or HBB (belated bday)...

      Delete
    5. To be honest, I also never "chue yi" (take note) belated happy birthday or happy belated birthday.. Coz from the beginning, already people wishing Happy Belated Birthday if they have forgotten to wish on the real day..

I guess it would be weird if I suddenly wish people "Belated Happy Birthday".. I think that person will think I am speaking in broken England..

Ooops, not that I am saying my England is good la, but really, if wish in Belated Happy Birthday macam "mm chau hau" (mouth not biasa like that).. keke..

      Delete
    6. I think I agree with you la.. I also paiseh wana wish happy belated birthday.. Haha.. It just makes it obvious and clearer that we have forgotten to wish on the real day, kan? So yes, I also agree should just wish Happy Birthday la.. But I guess many still wish Happy Belated Bday if they are late or have forgotten to wish, no?

Now all wish thru FB, whatsapp, wechat.. How many (I really mean how many) still wait til 12am to call/sms and send a (real) birthday card via post?

Years ago, many still send greeting card via email.. But now, people just post the greeting card on the wall in FB.. Ngam mou?

    7. And back to birthday topic, I think now birthday celebrations are over-rated and commercialized liao.. You see those birthday parties for kids nowadays.. They hire party planners, clowns, balloon shapers (you call it this word?) to come, etc.. They have a theme, like princess theme, pirates theme, Hello Kitty theme, then thay have canggih cupcakes (according to the theme), big gigantic 3-tier fondant icing cake, expensive goody bags, bombastic decoration, dessert buffet, chocolate fountain, everything, you name it..

    8. I know the comment above has nothing to do with happy belated bday or belated happy bday topic, but well, once the engine starts going about bday topics and all, hard to stop leh, hehehe..

Again lor, today's topic ngam-key with me, so I can automatically tuk-tuk very fast on the keyboard..

Meow, if you are reading this, are you with me today? Line ok mou today?

    9. Good Morning Bloggers! Good Morning Ribbon Princess!

You are so long winded and kalah me to silence dei... hmmph! My crystal ball says you will become the Queen of Spammers REAL SOON!!!! We all can feel the heat... good good good good... After you win, please sit on the throne and smile for photographers to snap! Don't hilang like the current winner, talk a lot but disappear to Facebook instead. Her radio frequency went wrong somewhere!! Muahahahaha

I agree that the new generation sees funny people wishing each other HB or HBB.... Hamsap Baby! or Hamsdap Big Baby! Well we actually save costs and time using the IT media to send wishes instead of buying cards and stamps to post. That would take more than 3 hours. The new way is less than 30 seconds to send wishes. Best of all, their birthday or wedding anniversary reminders could be set in your "Calendar"... Time has changed.

    10. Haiyah, Princess Polka Ribbon only can tuk-tuk very fast (without thinking) on the keyboard if the topic ngam with me that day wor.. Like I said, if that day, brain suddenly froze or don't know how to komen, then how to tuk-tuk fast wor, kan? Kam-ngam today I can think of things to write, thats why I can komen lor.. kekekeke..

I think in terms of long-winded-ness, I still kalah you la..I mean, every word you write, got "dou-lei" (sense) one wor.. Like very knowledgeable and intellectual like that.. Princess Polka Ribbon? Mei-kau-parn la.. Just know how to write nonsen only, keke..

    11. Gawd, I tot I am hamsap (and I am trying to control my hamsap-ness not to write so much hamsap stuff in the blog, scared kena cursed or gossiped), but who knows, you are more hamsap (and nonsen) than me wor.. HB = hamsap baby... OMG, hahahaha... To be honest, I have never heard HB = hamsap baby before wor..

    12. Hee hee heee.... I was just giving examples only. Of course we know it's Happy birthday but I like to wish people Happy Bird-Day!

I am still not used to people sending me Facebook invitations to attend their weddings! They still want to follow everything else the traditional way like Serve tea, collect Ang Pow and fetch Brides madness BUT no invitation cards!!! Well I will close my Facebook soon and bye bye to the future weddings.

Firstof all there are so many birthdates to remember. Our spouse our kids our parents our in law , out outlaws, best friends...this and that ...how la remember all. Yeah yea got phine alarm reminder and got fb reminder but not all synchronisedleh. As for fb tarak daoly login using pc. Mostly use phone. Phone tarak reminder for fb.

As for the belated wird. Well...I just follow what others putting coz already biasa. Mindless minions. Didn't really think deep like sk on the eord. Main aim is to wish that person happy birthday and yhe belated word is like an apology for being late in wishin lo.

    18. Wah Meow, been waiting for you to come kacau.. Finally see your komen jor..

Eh, no la, during my time where got so ho-mia? But the butter cake and KFC was real.. I had a giant cake with butter cream on my 5th birthday.. Then when reached kindie around 6 yrs old like that, mummy ordered KFC and brought to the kindie lor.. primary school that time, no celebration, but attended friend's celebration lor, in McD.. Then when reach college, actually no Secret Recipe la.. Where got Secret Recipe that time? I am actually talking about the current trend la.. During my time leh, college that time, if birthday, friends just bought a cake, cut in college study room lor.. But frankly, during my time, already got Red Box karaoke lor.. Go during happy hour, 12pm-3pm, sing K is free, you only need to order the food, bring inside eat.. Food RM9.90 can get liao.. So we usually celebrate birthday in Red Box lor.. Worth ma.. But I think now no more Red Box lor.. Kan?

Wah, you asking me my birthday here ahh? Ok la, I tak malu will announce now ok? 1st Sept :)

      Delete
    19. Meow, now have to follow trend lor.. Now, kids birthday, we have to give presents to people's kids also la..

Tu, you need to prepare those goody bags.. Inside put stationary la, chocolate la, a box of Ribena la, etc.. If put all candies and chocolates, later parents complaint not good pulak.. All candies, and many will achi-achor say not good for kids, bla bla bla.. So leh, better include some stationery inside lor.. To keep their mouth shut.. Usually when parents see inside the goody bag got a mixture of stationeries, sweets, some chocolates and a box of Ribena, then they will quiet jor..

So J boy pandai pandai ask his frens come on Sunday liao ahh? Without informing you or inform you dulu? Aiyoyo, this boy, really berani.. If he go and tell all his frens to come, then after a few days only let you know, you headache lor.. Have to think of the food and prepare goody bags lor..

But food very easy to make la.. Kids aje kan? Senang mau kaotim... Fry mihun, fry rice, kari ayam, goreng nuggets, hotdogs, french fries.. Then buat sandwiches.. Lastly, agar agar and some fruits.. Then prepare goody bags.. Mau senang, you bake 1 cupcake and put inside a nice plastic bag, tag their name, kautim... senang ??

    2. I also usually greet the person earlier, coz if I can remember, then faster greet first ma, hehe, if forgotten liao, then paiseh lor, then have to wish belated birthday macam no heart lor, hehe

      Delete
    3. Lastime leh, during college, we always used to wait until 12am to sms that person.. If closer friends leh, we call at 12am..

As time went by, slowly, we never call/sms at 12am liao lor.. We sms around 10am and said "I hope I am the first to wish you happy birthday tonite" padahal actually we already wana go to sleep that time and malas wana wait until 12am to sms that person, hahahahahaha...

      Smart mou?

      Delete
    4. It depends la, some friends still very thoughtful, will wait till12am wish through whatsapp, FB, then blog's post as well, and for much close friends they'll send some gifts by mail!!! =]

      Delete
    5. Ya la, very close friends, especially those good ones keeping in touch since primary school until now will still do that la.. but MOST of them already no do like that liao lor..

      Delete
    6. FB birthday alert is really good. I reckon. I always depend on the birthday notification to put in my greetings, but if I am late in my greetings, I will just not send any.

      Delete
    7. I complain so much about the new IT media and communications. I guess it only applies to me because I get too many messages from colleagues, friends, siblings and many property agents through sms, watsaps, vibers, emails and facebook messages!!! Won't you find that irritating??? I do.

A good example of irritation is the same agents would send me messages in watsaps, viber and sms!!!! I have to crack my head often to track back all the appts made or postponed or cancelled. It is not difficult but confusing as they have similar names too!

      Delete
    8. But fb punya not always accurate leh. Some wull put fake birth date in fb . I know quite a number of friends who does that for security reason.

Yea IT could ve a nightmare too. Fb instagram twitter whatapps wechat chaton bla bla... need so many passwords .cannot use sane password for each apps ma. It's very irritating especially whn duno how to mute the beeping sound.

I would try to wish ppl early birthday too..if I can remember la. Old already lo.

      Delete
    9. Aiyoyo, Meow, go setting la.. Mute the sound, but select the LED flashing..

Now, if my phone got whatsapp or wechat, no sound, but got LED light flashing.. So I know lor..

      1) Watsapp LED flash, you choose yourself..
      2) ChatOn LED flash = orange colour
      3) KakaoTalk LED flash = yellow colour
      4) WeChat LED flash = green colour

      Kan senang?

      Delete
    10. Sometimes the LED light gets irritate like keep flashes in the dark...so normally when I sleep I turn off all data wifi, hehe!!!

      Delete
    11. Led flashing darn irritating la and makan my battery slso. Zzz then wake up battery half liao

      Delete
    12. Oh, ya ka? I terbalik pulak.. I don't like the beep beep notifications, but I'm ok with the LED flashing.. Eh, if LED also irritating, noise beep beep also irritating, then how? Off all the sound ka?

      Delete
    13. The light makan lots of battery, can see from the battery usage list!!!

      Delete
    14. haha, another one that makes me feel like eavesdropping while reading.. suddenly can jump to LED on phone while this topic is on birthday greetings, haha!! BTW, my phone tarak all those LED notifications lah..

i actually wish people happy birthday on the day itself, because i always check on FB, or i've already set the date on my phone..

      Delete
    15. Yup..I mute my phone even in day time. Unless if I am waitibg for a call or email la. Then I turn on the volume. Yea am weird...but nenek ma...nenek dint like flashing lights and noise. So birthday notification from phone also mute. When I turn on the phone I will see the notification lo. Otherwise. ..wait lo

      Delete
  3. Yes it wouldn't be nice and sincere of us to wish someone late. But in this it savvy era, it has become a norm. Most people wish each other even though they don' t know the other person at all. One just tends to follow the crowd.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Have to admit too, I sometimes depend on FB notifications to notify me who and who is having a bday today (those not close ones), and I just follow the crowd and wish them happy bday on their wall :)
Afterall, type one sentence only ma, ain't that hard..

      Delete
    2. I did that wishing thing on FB everyday last time, but now hardly go FB, some even off the notification to see any of her or his friends remember or not...

      Delete
    3. Of course i also depends on the help from Facebook notifications. Honestly I don't quite like Facebook since a long time ago. It created jealousy amongst low minded people. Did you realise that too? Maybe your friends are all better and broad minded.

      Delete
    4. I agree with Anay TM. Some people use FB to show off, some people try to create jealousy. But then, I think we must have good EQ when using this social media. Otherwise we will also follow blindly what other is doing.

      Delete
    5. I can share a good example of Facebook jealousy that happened to me. I seldom log into Facebook like others who check the FB 5-10 times a day. Sometimes I checked 10 times a day when I was too free and sometimes I didn't check for 2 days due to unforeseen reasons. If I was travelling overseas, it could be a week that I didn't see my Facebook properly. What happened? I missed those birthday notifications that could only be seen in the PC or lap tops and not in my Smartphones. So I missed some birthdays!!! Whoa!!! The birthday fella emo and kept inside his hearts. Adoi.... Later when I wished someone else with drawings of birthday cake in the FB, that emo guy would openly ask me in the FB why I didn't wish him and create a cake??? I sweated so much!!! I had to track back that fella's birthday and prayed that I went overseas!!! No, sometimes I was in KL but merely overlooked.

      Delete
    6. The next thing is that some people are jealous when you post too many photos of your overseas trips or have dinners at 5 Star hotels with Whos & Whos... Adoi....
So I guess they prefer to see me in suffering mode or attending dinners by the road sides! Muahahahaha

      Delete
    7. Muahahahaha! Anay, you should be happy, this show that fella loves your greetings very much. Means, you are very very important person to that fella ma!

      Delete
    8. Anay, you make me ponder now, if I want to make people jealous, I must use FB as a weapon.

      Delete
    9. I did realize it, as people post travelling pictures, they would say "so much money, can go travel anytime anywhere!" As people post food may get comment as "so many food, no wonder you so fat, how to slim down!" As people post presents picture may gets different types of hint jealousy comments!!! =.=!!!

      Delete
    10. Don't do that.....seriously it would draw you into types dramas....

    11. Wah!! Yan must be on leave today!!! So many comments today and SK will be happiest.

Eh Polka Dot Ribbon Princess, please don't add me in Facebook lah. I will shut down my facebook soon and I am serious la.

    12. I mainly use the FB as my free photo storage.. Many are using Dropbox, etc.. But don't you agree FB is a very good photo storage, FOC somemore. You can upload unlimited albums, and 200 photos for each album..

BUT I also agree it's not a platform to show off your photos, where u have been, what 10-star food you have been eating, etc..I also behtahan some people hogging the pc and flooding the walls with Valentine's photos, Christmas photos, etc.. What they eat, bla bla... *yawn*

Some people I know, put privacy setting on their albums.. Only for their eyes, and they mainly makeuse of the FB for photo storage only..

Well, Princess Polka Ribbon is hogging the pc right now, I can komen in the morning la, before all the work comes in..
Hint: Princess Polka Ribbon does not online during weekends (and public holidays)... Ok, ada online, but won't be komenting lor.. Coz mostly will use my smartfone to surf during weekends.. And weekends have to jaga lembu, oops, I mean jaga anak, so no time komen and spam kau-kau like now..

    18. Hey Ribbon Princess, why must you mention so many times that SK's eyes are small or tiny?? I would phiak your mouth to East & West directions if you say my eyes small and face look old like Ah Pek. Anyways, if you meet SK in actual person, your jaws might drop and tongues wag like a Poodle Princess to see his handsome & macho face with muscular body. Any gal would drool at my Thambee! I don't think SK will ever want to meet you la since you never praised him.

I wonder what job you do at work that you could spam so much in the office?

      Delete
    19. Eh, have you ever heard if somebody keeps mentioning something repeatedly, means that person is paying attention to the other party lor.. Means thinking of the other party lor
*Note: I know what you are thinking.. Not flirting as in "thinking" like missing somebody.. "thinking" as in SK will always flash thru my mind when I am komenting since this is his blog la..And yes, I always think of (and remember) him by his sexy small eyes lar, hehe..

Eh, TM, chisin, hehe, I never thought b4 your eyes are small and your face is old la.. In fact, I think you have a very intellectual kinda face who always have something sensible to say anytime, anywhere...

Err, and I don't think you seh-tah phiak me kua.. Altho' you are chou-lou sometimes, I think you are a gentleman also, kan? Kekekeke..

      Delete
    20. Okay okay give you a candy now! Of course I won't dare to phiak anyone lah, just kidding only okay. I had to speak up as I know I would scream if someone tells me my physical looks like alien, chubby faced or rabbit tooth. I might cry buckets of tears you know. I would blame my parents if I look horrible and I would also compliment my parents if I look like Tom Cruise.
In the past there have been some bloggers who openly belittled others without realising it. One idiot and retarded blogger had to remind me very often that I am getting old plus after scolding the daylight out of him, he still watsap me "Burung Kakak Tua" last week. Hope he reads this cos he has no respects for anyone.

okay lah, make it clear lah.. i am never bothered about my look, i have very little and rare eyebrow which look weird to many people, i have small eyes and you may not see them when i smile.. but that is how i look and that's my signature, you probably won't see a second person like that, so please appreciate looking at my face wokay?? muahahahaha~~ :D

  4. Good morning everyone.
Reading this post, I feel paiseh, as I am doing what others are doing. So, people greets others "Happy Belated Birthday", I also follow to do so.

SK is different. SK will think before doing so, and not just follow other people way of doing things. Great!

Next time, I must be like that too. Must think and not just follow blindly. Heheheh! I agree la! I will just wish Happy Birthday to you, regardless early or late.

  5. Morning, Morning......at first I saw the topic I was thinking some festive "belated" celebration!!! Some people might mind isn't not wish on the exact date, thus they would reply as it's already past, as for advanced so they might just write "belated" lo.....but sometimes it makes me confuse when was the date for it duh!!! =.=!!!

But we still sendiri department celebrate own staffs bday. Just omit him from the celebratiom. Wait till he go home we baru celebrate. Lol

Must find ways to make him/her declare that they sponsor. First thing - celebrate their birthday kaw-kaw. Make them so happy they annouce how nice it'll be to do this for everyone. Then, you ask them sponsor la. In front of everybody. Cannot say no one! LOL

    4. wah, Mak Glam is the Director for BCD (birthday celebration department) ke?? haha.. aiyoh, why the boss doesn't allow birthday celebrations?? it's no a big deal also what, just spend like RM50 to buy a cake and make the employees happy lah..

    1. nowadays with FB, it is pretty easy to remember one's birthday. In fact, easy to greet them. haha

    2. yeah, i think nowadays most of the people will rely on FB to remind them of friends' birthdays, and then just conveniently type a greeting on FB wall.. :)

  14. i never say happy belated birthday before, but agree with wat u said, 'Belated happy birthday' is grammatically correct. perhaps the reason for the use of 'happy belated birthday' is because people usually put HAPPY at the beginning of the statement? HAPPY....
    Eg:
    HAPPY 20th birthday.
    HAPPY new year
    HAPPY cny
    HAPPY Anniversary
    HAPPY holiday

put HAPPY at the beginning sounds more common, maybe people focus on feelings first?

maybe say 'belated birthday greetings' is the way??

    1. i used to say "happy belated birthday" too and thought it was cool, hahaha!! so paiseh lah, but now i really find this not the right way of saying so.. anyway, maybe just get rid of the word "belated" and just say "happy birthday" probably to end with "sorry i am late"?? :p

  15. It's better to wish someone Happy Birthday earlier than late. I usually don't wish anymore when it's over. But it's no big deal even if someone wishes me happy belated birthday. I don't expect everyone to remember my exact birthday. Furthermore, I don't put my birthday on facebook.

    ReplyDelete

    1. oh yeah, i also heard something like that.. same to celebrations, either on the day or earlier but never later.. anyway, it's the thought so i also won't mind at all whether it's later or earlier - but don't make it like one month later lah, haha!! :D

Really salute your effort la! Must have spent so much time to design and pack everything! 真是抵锡!=D

I never actually thought of the difference between 'happy belated birthday' and 'belated happy birthday' wo! Cause any ways also, it's still a wish ma! :p
But now after reading your post, I think you're right! Proper way should be the latter one, hehe!
So now I'll remember to wish the proper way la!

    3. I also wonder where he got the songs, like one of the song I asked was like the one I heard from YouTube cause it has partial dialog in it, hehe!!!

      Delete
    4. I think everything is from youtube.. And he downloaded a (maybe paid) software to copy from youtube kua..

Yes, I made this guess coz some of the songs had dialog in it before the song started.. Unlike if download from MP3 loader (from Android apps), terus can start with the song already.. But some of the songs, cakap cakap sampai 23 seconds baru start the song.. So I'm very sure it's from youtube..

    5. It makes sense, I used to have the YouTube download software last time, but now apps make it easier!!! =]

    6. hahaha, i find those songs more special if they come with dialogue woh, something you won't usually find from the songs on CD mah.. and yeah, i got those songs from the MVs on YouTube but not good to expose too much details in public lah, after all it's not legally right to do so, hehehe.. so just keep all your CDs for your personal entertainment use only :p

    7. Haha geng la you SK!
Yea I hate those songs with dialogue in it, those like doing commercial one, so irritating nia. And songs downloaded in concert version also not good, quality bad.. But songs that SK given all seems to have standard, good quality! xD
