was talking to a friend and got to know his niece was studying in the same high school i went N-years ago, and thus our conversation surrounded the topic of teachers from the past and present.. it was actually an interesting conversation, and after processing what we talked about, this is what i can summarize, wonder how much do you agree with us?? :)

    1. Wondering which school are you talking about, but now all the school are the same la!!! Last time when people always said if can't find a job then apply for teacher lo!!! Better than nothing, but now hardly heard people said so, people more like complain the pay is too low or what!!!

      Delete
    2. You are out-dated. Everybody wants to be a teacher now - pay as high as a doctor's...not like my time - paid peanuts only.

And yes, as SK said, lots giving tuition...or in fact, many OWN their own tuition centres and they make so much money - buying houses, shoplots, flashy luxury cars and what not. That's ok...as long as they teach properly in school - or they can resign and concentrate on their tuition business - a lot more money there, that's for sure.

    3. Yes!!! That's right, a lot of parents will be like going to school then ask the teacher why you punish my children but like my time, even got punish by teacher also tell one, must be the student did something wrong then only the teacher will punish mah, so the student knows he's wrong already where got face the tell his/her parents!!! But now argh...most students are like Princess and prince at home, in their mindset will be like even my parents also never punish me like that, you think who you are argh??? Then they straight away go home complain then the parents and the ah gong, ah ma, heard it is like so big big business must go school to argue with the teacher if more and more they want the school to fire the teacher or ask the teacher to say sorry or something!!!

    4. Last time parents see teacher very scared but now teacher might scared they did something wrong to their children...like the world has changed the teacher should be a job that everyone admire the most but now is like they've some limitation to that!!!

    5. STP, you said everybody want to be teacher, nope!!! Nowadays people more to be like tuition teacher!!! Like you day la, if the teacher pay is so high then why the teacher still want to teach tuition after work??? They really that free??? Or they really that passionate want to teach those who can't catch up in class??? Like SK said the they teach half in class and half in tuition because that's the way how they attract students to attend their tuition class mah!!! But I do agree with you last time your pay is very low, but now they do increase a bit but not like increase high like doctor or what!!!! And argh try to ask 20+ adult nowadays, the pay is very high wor, you want to be teacher or not??? They sure answered no one, and look at the government this year math and science in English then next two years back to Malay again then English again, aiyo... The teacher got to go training catch up with the English then Malays then English again......also I remember few months ago the education department was complaining they're no Chinese teacher leh!!! If really so many people want to be teacher, then how come they say like that? People nowadays always aim for easy and good pay job, teacher job nowadays is so hard to be, got to see the principle face, student face and parents face also, serious if really ask la...guess the person would choose become tuition teacher more la, like the time also pretty free, and even though those teachers who really have the passionate to teach argh, but they felt so stress also...as if the students didn't score well in exam the parents will go school to complain the teacher because for them the results is the most important thing, so getting slowly the start to lose passionate to the job already...

    6. In primary school, the mom is the one prepare for the student then bring to school la, but maybe secondary school is different, the student will prepared themselves, like during my time just give a rose only is like more than enough didn't give any present, hehe!!!

    7. Good Morning Bloggers! What an interesting topic today.
STP is correct, the salary is considered good today and I heard some primary school teachers are drawing over RM3000 pm now. What about the secondary ones? I wouldn't say that they get over paid but the government has revised a lot to benefit them more than 10-20 years ago. They just need to give a bit tuition to earn extra bonus to have luxury lifestyle with fat retirement and happy ending like STP! Look at his smiling face now.

    8. Wah ... like that can I apply to be a teacher now ? Good business out there !! Lol

    9. Very true on the tuition centre part. We parents are too tired to teach our kids and weekend is family days , meant for all to rest. Put them in tuition centre and finish homework there. And , progress improved too.

When I started, I was paid RM700 a month. When I retired 30 years later, I was getting RM3,000 a month...what a fresh graduate would get today - my daughter is getting that.

Why they give tuition? Who does not want more money? I have a lot to say along this line - can write a book about it. Can't possibly include everything here. Either do that or be like me - retire...I would not say poor but with enough to survive in this little small town or live the rest of your life in luxury and comfort, rich!

For one thing, in places like KL, they have to as 3K is really not enough to survive in the city. I hear many government employees drive taxis at night to earn more to support their families.

    11. I did mention la, I say I agree with you that your pay was very low last time compared to now, but not everyone wants to be teacher!!!

    12. TM, 3000 a month, monthly pension is 50%. I am lucky living standard not too bad in Sibu - just be a bit prudent. If I lived in KL, I would have to go begging in the streets now. Tecahres get over RM3K starting - primary, secondary...all the same...8 years they get promoted time-based to the next scale (my time, 30 years - died already, still no jump)...and then there are all the promotional posts they can apply for, my time - no such thing - even higher salaries. Like the Guru Cemerlang = principal's scale...and many get it even though to me, I think many of them are actually guru cer-mer-lan (Mandarin). :(

    13. Yes, not many want to become teachers. Problem is they all graduate from university...and cannot find a job and they all become teachers. Heart is not there, not trained properly...how to be good teachers? These are the ones who give the teaching profession a bad name! (And they have higher scale, higher salaries for unemployed accountants and engineers who become teachers, I tell you! Not fair! Everybody also teaches - does the same amount of work or maybe even more!)

The worst thing is the government takes them in for 1-year course in the colleges - what can they learn in a year...especially when the heart is not there? Allowance RM1.500 a month...while the normal trainee who are those who applied to become a teacher, genuine cases, get RM450 a month. Really unfair!!! To me, it's just a way to keep them happy and to keep unemployment rate low...but it is doing more harm than good where education is concerned. Just let them be unemployed! Take only the good ones to become teachers...not these unwanted unemployed graduates that nobody wants.

    14. The fresh graduate for Rm3000, you mean is after degree?? Wonder how about after SPM? If after SPM is that high, I got to ask my friend to apply already, because she didn't get any chance to have further after SPM because she is her family financial support!

      Delete
    15. If results good, after SPM, can try applying to teachers' colleges - they do one and half years' foundation and then four years, degree proper. These days, no more overseas twinning like the one my daughter got..

Results no good - have to do Form 6/STPM and then apply to do Education in the university. UPSI is for teachers-to-be.

No money, can apply for PTPTN loan. If graduate with 1st Class Honours, no need to pay back - considered a scholarship.

    16. Good morning SK , Xiao Ying and all

Wah teachers day coming so teachgers daty topic ah.

Hmmm...last time income is low la. RM700. Now increase so much liao.

But then still not many wanna be teacher. One thing is that teachers is subject to be transfer. from last time there are horror stories where some teachers transferred to some ulu places far away from their family. Not many is willing to make that sacrifice .For those single punya teacher is a not that bad la. They will still miss their family. But what about the ones that got married. Heard takes long time for a transferred to be approve so that ones can be with the spouse.

Just like a friend who teacher in KL and her husband in Johor. Every weekend have to take bus to and fro . Long journey. And if weekend have replacement class, cannot go already.

Yes, teaching is a holy profession and teachers supposed to be willing to sacrifice for the greater good of the kids. But frankily speaking it's not for everyone lo. Ones have to be very compansionate and patience to be a teacher.

    17. Actually I think being a teacher is quite a good profession these days, heard that the benefits are attractive! And got quite a lot holidays?
Of course it depends on what kinda school/at which area la! If at rural area sure pay low, and not as busy and challenging compared to those at big cities.
But at the same time, being a teacher is also very stressful these days. Of course all profession got its own pressure la but being a teacher needs to deal with troublesome students and hard-to-please parents, these days most parents treat the kids like jewels, little thing only go school see headmaster complain and all, even if their kids get poor scores they will go to school blame the teachers also. Sorry to say but many parents are being over protective and thus their kids are becoming spoil-brat (okay I am getting worried whether will I be one of these parents :p). Anyway back to point, teacher also need to deal with the endless changing education system by the government!
I got a yoga friend who is teaching in secondary school and I realize she becomes a bit haggard now, compared to the first time I saw her, she is consider young but I can't help but to notice her tired and 'chan' face... I asked her is it too busy at works til no time 'pan leng leng'? She answered yes, too stressful! Taiping is such a small town with not many students compared to bigger cities like KL/JB but being a teacher here is already so 'san fu', I cannot imagine those teachers teaching at bigger city!
      Haih, kesian her also~

      Delete
    18. But hor, like I said, it depends on what kinda teacher also la... Another friend of mine teaches PJ (Pendidikan Jasmani) and she seems much more relax!
Even got time to go jogging every evening, and cooks for her hubby daily!
So, it really depends on individual la!

  2. Not happy with teachers. Be like a lady lawyer here. Took her son out of the school (as he was punished by the teacher), opened her own international school and dumped the son there. She actually sued the teachers and the school for RM1 million - nothing heard of it after than - no case, I guess.

    2. You also need to have the passion to teach.

    3. Yep I agree, teachers are really very 'wai dai'! I always respect those professional and truly dedicated teacher, as I can see how stressful they are these days. They have to deal with different characters of students, and also some difficult parents, really no easy job, can 'kek sei' one...
I was a part time tuition teacher at Kumon few years back and even though just for a short while (probably just 3-4 months), I already can 'feel the pain', especially when dealing with some super high demands parents. We at the tuition center have our own sets of rules and methods of teaching but some parents just don't understand. Once a mother brought back the homework which I had marked for her son and asked me how I do the scoring. I wasn't afraid as I did the scoring accordingly, so I explained to her calmly in the beginning.
But she seems very 'mmm gam yuen' and said we shouldn't score like that, very unfair la bla bla bla.....
Being a part time worker there, I just smiled and said 'ok I will talk to my boss about that', though deep down I felt super angry but come to think of it, I would be there for short period of time only, let's just leave a good impression to the boss (who is also my ex neighbor), and don't make the issue worse.

So, I can totally imagine what is it like for those teachers teaching at primary/secondary schools, where they face even more students with more homeworks!

  6. To meet ends needs, I think can't help it la. They have to give tuitions to earn some part time wages. I guess they just teach according to the text books while in tuition , they are more specialised in helping to pass exams. I would said more value added.

    1. My time, teachers all taught according to textbooks, page after page, no workbooks, no past-year questions, nothing. Parents did not bother, no tuition...caned by teacher - went home tell parents, got caned another round...and I did not know what the Cambridge exam papers looked like till I was sitting for them in the exam hall.

These days, teachers stop short of going to sit for the exam for their students...the good ones, that is. No doubt in every profession, there will always be some black sheep.

      Delete
    2. Agree with STP, haha.. Those days, my mum even asked the teacher to just cane me if I do anything wrong.. So if the teacher canned me, I dared not tell my mum also, else, will get canned second round, teehee.. So true..

    1. Teaching is not a low income job. My mum’s neighbor who teaches in a secondary school, quit and becomes a full-time tuition teacher.. She teaches in a school at first, and giving tuition is just part time, after school.. Initially, she uses her own house for teaching, now, she rented the double storey house opposite her own house, to accommodate more students.. Earning more than me+hubby’s combined salary per month.. Becoming a tuition teacher can really make one rich (and famous).. Parents (and students) from all over the taman, come this tuition teacher leh.. Now who says teaching is a low income job?

      Delete
    2. Students nowadays I agree, are more “powerful” than teachers.. You hit them, even scold them, then you are “dead”.. Even babysitting, if you hit or scold the kid, then kid comes back and complain to the parents, then the nanny is “dead”, haha.. The parents will sure come and make a big hoo-haa, and take the kid away from the nanny after that.. The parent will say “I myself also mm seh tak hit my kid, who are you to hit my kid?”

      Delete
    3. I don’t think teachers are “afraid” to face parents la.. But I think they want less trouble, less issues, so they just act very politely when meeting the parents, hehehe.. I cant comment too much on this, coz I’ve never met Kz’s teachers before.. I’ve only met the daycare teachers in the morning when I drop him there.. So far, they are all very friendly.. But there are a few older ones, quite strict too.. In the evening when I pick Kz back, they will say sternly “Your son is very picky, doesn’t eat vegetables, I give vegetables, he take it out, I give again, he takes it out again, you as parents must teach and guide him that eating vege is good”… Wahlao, eh, who dunno mother is a woman?

      Delete
    4. I guess 11 out of 10 students now attend (private) tuition after class.. I can’t comment too much in this point, coz I have no proof.. But my mum told me, the neighbor’s kid asked his teacher something, and the teacher answered him “Go ask your tuition teacher”..

      Delete
    5. About Teacher’s Day, well, I remembered during my time, there was no class.. There was performance, and there was class makan-makan thingy.. I forgot whether there was class or not.. Maybe there was, but very relaxed and “cincai” one.. No? Actually I also forgotten, so can’t comment too much too.. But for Kz, yeah, already written in the message book, there will be no classes on Teacher’s Day, and kids are required to bring some party food to school that day.. We have to tick and confirm what types of food we are going to sponsor.. Buying gifts for teachers is not compulsory, but I’ve seen many parents giving teachers presents..

      Delete
    6. Last point is very true though.. Not only to kids, but to myself too.. I dunno, maybe it’s just me.. Lastime when I was still living with my parents, I don’t really listen to them.. But when my bf (now hubby) says something, I’ll listen, then I’ll tell my parents back, and my parents will be like “See, told you, you don’t wana listen, you wana listen from others only you belif”.. Then the cycle repeats til now.. Hubby says something, I don’t listen, but when my colleagues say it, then I will listen right away, and go home to tell my hubby the same.. Then my hubby’s turn to nag “You see, I told you, I knew you won’t listen, you must listen from your colleagues only you belif one”.. Teehee..

      Delete
    7. Now ahh, macam-macam ada.. Parents not satisfied with School A, then can appeal for School B.. If School B tak dapat, then they have so many alternatives, provided they can afford..

Macam-macam now, you name it – Private school, International School, Home School. That’s if you can afford.. But I see macam many parents can afford leh, based from what I read in the mummy’s forum..

Aiya, don’t say primary or secondary school la.. Talk about kindergarten enuff.. Parents are comparing too, among the well-known and popular kindergarten, like Beaconhouse, Q-Dees and there are so many enrichment classes for toddlers now like BaoBei, TweedleWink (izzit?), many more, what Waldorf la, blab la.. I also lost track la.. Dunno how to follow liao.. Some quit their jobs and stay home full time to home school their toddlers, buy all Montessori materials and home-school their toddlers..

    9. Haha, I was in a girl's school too lastime.. Pudu English Secondary School.. Erm, I admit la, girls are nicer.. Will always buy gifts for teachers.. Eh, don't talk about teachers la, even kids.. Girls are sweeter than boys.. When I send G to the nursery, the girls will come stick with him, and play with him.. Older girls will help to take care of him, like bringing his bolster or rock him to sleep.. Boy? They are bz with their own thing, play in one corner only, teehee..

    10. From what I can see, tuition teachers and music teachers all earning very well.. Really.. This one I can 100% confirm coz I've seen it with my own eyes.. Mum's neighbour, used to be a school teacher, quitted, became tuition teacher full time, now she even rented the house opposite to accommodate all her students.. She even home-school kids now.. Students come in pyjamas, study, then they go home - all home schooled.

Music teachers? Same. My ex-colleague works normally in the daytime.. After work, teaches piano.. Her income is almost the same as her daytime job..

    5. I guess it depends on the individual lah. I seldom met my kid's teacher , thus don't know how they are except on the formal school open day. Well, kids tend to pay more respects to teachers since they are their 'teachers'. So, will listen to anything they said compared to daddy and mommy who are prone to pamper them.

  9. Agreed, teacher's salary is extremely low!

well, not necessary afraid to meet parents. Both have to be polite.

Yes, that happened but I refused to teach after school even though we were being paid. But honestly, the fees were damn low.

Oh, I didn't do that as I didn't give any tuition classes. I gave all in my classes.

Yes, teacher's day is a big celebration but we hardly get any presents from students nowadays. Furthermore, we didn't encourage them to do that. But we just loved to have a card.

true, teacher's advices are always more acceptable.

Happy Teacher's day to all teachers!

  11. Good afternoon SK

Celebrate Teacher's Day punya topic ah/

1st point Teacjing is low income job. Hmm...for me it's more like thankless job leh. Nowadays not easy to do the job. Teacher not only teaching leh. now have to do many extra thingy leh for the students.

If view income wise...RM3K is same like graduate punya income. Starting pay in Banks for graduate in banks think now it's between rm2k to rm3k. with that the trainee still have more personal time than a teacher leh. And income can jump high very fast. One year working in this co the jump to another co. Withing 5 yrs income can rise to RM10k and more leh

  12. Point 2. Punishment. I think it depend on the teacher leh. If the teacher thinks that he or she have the right to punish then should go ahead and punish,. why scared of parents complain.

I still remember making roses for my favourite teacher leh.

who says now compulsory buy present? can make present also mah. Anyway, it's just a token to show appreciation to teacher who have worked hard to groom the kids leh. Why not?

If some one have done a good job you also will give a token mah. See if taxi driver send u to a destinatioon and goes out of his way to serve you, wont you consider giving some tips? If can give tips to taxi driver? why not give gifts to cikgu.

Dont have to buy expensive gift to cikgu. Just a token...home baked cookies...or maybe a hand made card.

  17. I will have to agree on the point that teachers are now scared of parents. These days cannot scold or punish the students even of the kids are wrong because as far as the parents are concerned, their kid can do no wrong. They will confront the teacher and that is why the younger generation is very spoilt. No discipline. Not like during my time.

  24. All the points that SK mentioned here for comparison of Teaching Profession in the past and now, all the changes are because of over protective and over pamper parents in today world. In the past, one family could have many children, now one family has only one or two children. So nowadays parents over pamper their children.

That's why teachers have no longer been respect like previously.

Luckily there is still one last point never change. Young children are pretty much listening to teachers more than parents. That’s not too bad.

    2. Very very true, what you've said, Yan...and it is tragic that when kids do not respect their teachers, it makes them very hard to control...much less teach. Same with parents who cannot control their own children - so kurang ajar.

Hah!!! You have not heard of a teacher who demanded to teach another class - so there was a major reshuffle in the timetable. She did not want to teach English in the class where my daughter was in. Frankly, I don't know why... Hehehehehehe!!!!

  25. Teachers now no longer want to be firm and fierce to students, they scare getting complaint from the students’ parents. Teachers no also no longer teach students wholeheartedly. They teach cincai cincai only. But if the student is going to their tuition class, then different story.

Teacher’s Day eh? Good topic, tomorrow is my girls’ school celebrates teacher’s day. I have already wrapped their presents nicely. By the way, I only got handmade cards from my daughters, but I have to fork out about RM60 to buy Teacher’s Day gifts. Ok la! Once in a year only, buying gifts for teachers on Teacher’s Day is a gesture to appreciate teachers’ hard work. Luckily my girls give presents selectively, and not give to all teachers, otherwise ...sure burn a big hole in my pocket.

Primary school and secondary school one, students always complain why teacher give so much homework to do, so tiring, but teacher is the one very tired as he or she has 50 students then he or she got to mark 50 homework lo!!! Not every homework they give have the sample answer one, how about essay? They got to read and check word by word to correct the students and exam period, got to prepare exam paper...so much works to do... Then college and uni teacher/lecture, they still got do thesis and teaching... Sigh, never ends works!!! So to all teachers, Happy Teacher's Day and thanks for all the hard works!!! =]

      2) I don't mind my kids get punished at school because of their mistakes. And hope they repent.
      3) I respect my kids' teachers because I want mine to respect their teachers.
      4) I appreciate teachers who offer to give extra tuition after school, free or paid. At least I don't have to search high and low for another tuition teacher myself.
      5) Ahhh... this point. It depends on the teacher, some are not so enthusing over teaching and vice versa.
      6) I didn't prepare anything for my kids. My girl prepared her own handmade card and a plastic flower for her favourite teachers. As for my son, he requested to bring some packed biscuits for his teachers :D
      7) True, true. Both my kids come home and say, "Teacher said...", LOL!

    2. Yea, I agree with some of the points here, there must be a reason why the teacher punish our kids, so if they make a mistake, they will be punished, that's how things go, but if they do something right, they will get praised.
Hmm, it's good to let the kids learn to be independent and prepare their own cards and gifts for the teachers.
At least they know what to give to the teachers...

  40. Good exchange of info. I was appalled when a colleague told that her son's teacher asked the class to put up their hand those who have tuition after school. Majority did. I wonder if that gave the teacher a sense of relief that she didn't have to work that hard. My colleague's son had no tuition but was being coached by his mom so I understood my colleague's chagrin at the teacher's little survey.

I still believe the best public school system is still that of the Chinese school. No nonsense there and staffed by dedicated teachers. And kids have no need for tuition because school hours are long with added classes.

  42. Well, I do believe there're still many good teachers out there, many 无私 teachers, who is willing to share their knowledges to the students, regardless of which class they are in, paid or free.

Teacher's Day? During my time, we don't have special celebration or party to celebrate this day, may be just a wish, or give a present to the teacher personally. Then just spend the day like any normal day, like what you have said.

But now I see the trend is different, got food and party to celebrate this day! Even got gifts presentation time, then take photos and all, even at kintergarden also same! Not sure if it's a good thing? Good because can let the kids remember what is teacher's day and appreciate this day, bad because if continue to do like that, they will be spoil! Parents need to spend money to buy food and gifts! :p

  43. I miss to a few post here actually, busy with my work and busy making chocolate cake balls for Teachers Day as you know, hehehe…. Well it is still not too late to follow up all the post I missed out!

    Point #1
When we were young that time, we were asked to write down our ambitions. That time I still remember the most common profession definitely I will write teacher. Even my parents and my grandparents always said it is good to become a teacher. Got so many holidays, got so many benefits and easy job too, just take the red pen and mark papers too. Hahaha, sounds pretty easy right?
Last time not many people can further their study because of insufficient of funds and probably they need to help parents to earn more for livings and also need to take care of their siblings… So many parents are not well educated that is why they respect all the teachers out there… who knows a lot of knowledge than them… They praise teachers a lot that time because they are the person who help them to educate their children in many ways. E.G: give free tuition to the weak students. I guess that time, teachers also not being pay very high too.
In my opinion, if to compare, actually it is another challenge for those who wants to become a teacher in this new generation. Chinese people like to say “I see you good, and you see me good” too. People now are more focus how high is the salary they earn than spending their sweats to teach better education to the students. Yes they are some who is crazy over the pay and some are very well dedicated to teach the students and really want them to be a success person in the future. So don’t just only measure about the salary but also measure the benefits of becoming a teacher as a profession. People also say becoming a lawyer and doctor can get high and well paid too but do you ever think of their consequences before they can become a real lawyer or a doctor? For me every profession is very “san fu” one, those sacrifices which many people don’t really appreciate that.

    1. Point # 2 and can relates with point #3
Last time, students are afraid of teachers. I also found last time teachers are more garang leh… Do you? I feel sacred too, especially my kindergarten and primary headmistress. You feel their fierce wind when she comes or we can recognise her footsteps too. She not yet punish yet, but already feel the fear….hahaha. Again compare to now. Teachers are more careful and cannot punish the students lor. In the other way, they request the student’s parents to meet the teacher in school and discuss about the matter. So far, I didn’t received any phone calls from Calvin’s Form teacher yet. Please I do not wish to receive that phone call too. hehehe
I’m not afraid to be in the school compound or met any of his school teacher. Just that we try to make the matter to the minimum as possible. I don’t want to complain this and that. I feel things can be settle professionally. For example, attend the PIBG meeting is another good idea too. We as parents we have our responsibility to channel down every needs and problems that our kids face in school and hope the school management will try to improve and solve the problems. I guess this is best way to ask questions and it is more transparent too.
There are many cases out there about teacher canning the students. Not only that, making a havoc in the classroom whereby male teacher will do something towards the female students. This kind of teacher really need to be punish kau kau. Well this is a bit far too much already.

      Delete
  44. Point #4
This phrase is well written. I agreed. Sometimes, the school will called parents to give a sum in order for the kids to attend extra class after school. Reasons will be always say like that - for exam preparation and so on. Hey when we attend the PIBG matter we can actually brought out this matter and measures whether the sum or extra fee we have to pay is reasonable or not. Maybe I’m from accounting line, I always be more alert towards the financial statement of PIBG… Usually they will segregate out the annual general meeting report in booklet, so we can read through all the contents. On the other hand, even Nurseries nowadays asking us to pay this and that or whatsoever to raise fund to hold an event and etc… Calvin’s first kindie was asked to pay a sum of RM30 for additional revision books. I didn’t ask any further question about it because I plan to move him to another kindie in a few months later.
Talk about fee. My son is from Keb school and until now they not yet asked me to pay the school fee yet. I wonder why… probably later before this school holiday break.

    2. Point #5
Another interesting point here. I’m not a very good student, I’m just the ordinary one. My friends and I can actually observe whether the teacher got “liu” or not – experience teacher or a good teacher. Muahaha…. Usually will happen to those trainee teacher… they are fresh. In the past teachers will try their best to take many test papers for their students to do revision and so on. I remember my Economic teacher which is my Form 6’s Form Teacher. She always give her very best information and knowledge for us… every time got tips for us one. But somehow there are few male student in my class was making fun of her and not paying attention in the class, while she is teaching. She ignored them and continue to teach us…but one day she can’t control and scolded them. Burst out with tears sum more… pity her. Then after that incident, those male students will respect her although sometimes, they feel bored with the subject…. Another past incident, was in tuition centre. Same again lar…male students were playing and havinf fun behind the class while this teacher teaching Maths showing us the steps in front of the white board… This teacher also very kind and until one day she kenot tahan anymore.. very angrily ask them to get out from the class. Simple to say: teachers are willing to teach us because they knows all the hard knocks they face last time and tries to pass down the best knowledge for their students… some will appreciate some are not.
For the present time… teachers are more materialistic… not all but there are… Just like those lecturer’s from the private college and so on… They are paid for and willing to be bribe to get the exam questions and many more… The worst is even are bribe to pay for the Certificate of Honour. Money is not everything. When I was attending seminars and talk… they definitely will not talk so much and just explain accordingly to the content…not more than that because they are paid to that amount only… If to explain and teach more need to impose higher fees…So will you think is professional ethics?

  45. Teacher’s Day is a day that we appreciate their effort. It is not wrong that having a celebration for them… They deserve that. I think last time, also got celebration too. I remember that my mom bought a few stalk of rose for me to bring to school for the teachers who taught me. Maybe probably last time, not expensive as nowadays.
For myself, I think we should do something for the teacher too. Tak kan we want our son brings nothing to school, am I right? In directly, it really helps the teacher to remember which student give the present to them. There are some school, that students need to bring their own food for the celebration. My son’s school is a lil bit different celebration. Whereby, my son told me his male teachers went down to the field and play rugby… No class that day but watching their teachers playing games and so on…
I have a few friends of mine are teachers, nurseries, Primary and Secondary also got. Some received very expensive present like bags (not branded but will it be far too much?) and even perfumes too. OMG!!! Parents don’t have to do that actually. Or maybe the parents probably bought it long time ago and no chance to use it and so wrap it up again as if like a new gift for the teacher. Recycled mar…Kekeke.
What I bought for this recent Teacher’s Day? – Pens, Highlighter, Note pad, Glue and a Snickers chocolate bar. Simple and yet useful. Ever since from the first day of school, I notice the teachers (most of them) stick/ glued a lot of working sheets on my son’s exercise book.

In the past, as I mentioned before parents usually don’t study to that high level. Form 5 is good enough. My mom only studied until Form3 ( has to came out early because need to earn extra living to the family) and my Father until Form5. Those days like my parents, they said can go to school to study is very lucky already. Furthermore, only got money students only can go to school to study. So for those who are very fortunate that can really go school to study – they really pay attention in class, listen to teachers and trust them too – Cos their parents are busy with work and some doesn’t go school to study before. My father get better job as an office clerk (which last time is very geng already if can work in the office)… Well my mum was an operator in Sanyo factory. Compare to now, to get a job must at least has a Form5 paper. When comes to present, we as parents also busy with works… is good also that they will listen to the teachers. Hehehe… Very common lar, my son came back from school will always said “Teacher said this and that”…. Hahaha
